Is it possible to have a forms opacity at lets say 10% and have a picturebox on the form transparent but have its contents at 100% opacity? Because when i set the forms opacity to 10% it sets all its controls to 10% opacity.

I've recently gotten over the hurdle of a Borderless form that doesn't show in the Taskbar to not be hidden when the user clicks the Show Desktop button in windows by using the SetParent API to make the windows all children of the desktop, but now I can't change the Opacity of the form, it throws an exception:

I can't find a way to change the opacity of a mdi form within it's parent. I can change the parent form's opacity under properties, but can't change the embedded mdi form's opacity under it's properties. Opacity = 0.5 doesn't change the opacity of the mdi... works fine for the parent form. I was hoping that the embedded mdi forms functions would still be independent of the parent in order for me to change it's opacity.

We used to save all settings to registry for user settings, servername, size and locations.so we are now saving them into My.Settings app.config the only problem is that each time there is an update clickonce will isntall the newupdate but now all settings are loist and user has to save everything all over again..
I am trying to follow the book here but it seems i keep getting stuck somewhere. registry has worked fine for years but i understand we must move on, but if stuff like this happens then i just wasted a long time converting all code to conform for it to not work..
I have my form set up to be able to be kept on top if the user so chooses. When it is set to be kept on top, I want the opacity to be reduced when the form loses focus. When I set opacity on init, it works fine. When I use this code, it doesn't work:

View 3 RepliesI have created a settings-file for my plug-in-based app. When the mainApp writes the settings to the file, the pluginApp should read the settings from the settings-file (when opening or at runtime even better), but somehow it reads the settings from the app.config-file. This means that the pluginApp never will read the settings according the values of the file.

I've been researching for about half an hour now, trying to figure out if it's possible, but I'm coming up short.
I've seen some WPF examples and if it really comes to that, I'm more than willing to change the app from a WinForms app to a WPF app. I've made a WPF app before, so I'm familiar with it. But, I don't want to have to remake my entire project for this one form.
On that note, does anyone know if I can make a WPF form how I need it and just import it into a WinForm app? It doesn't seem possible, but it's better to ask than not. I'll look into this more.
setting the form opacity programatically in the MouseEnter and MouseLeave events.The problem isn't with the actual events, the problem is that the events occur in places where I don't want it to happen.So in my project, I have a form with 3 user controls in it. The user controls are docked in the form so no actual space from the form is available to the user.
I have the methods:
Form1_MouseEnter(~) Handles Form1.MouseEnter, UserControl1.MouseEnter, UserControl2.MouseEnter, UserControl3.MouseEnter
Form1_MouseLeave(~) Handles Form1.MouseLeave, UserControl1.MouseLeave, UserControl2.MouseLeave, UserControl3.MouseLeave
when you enter the form, the form opacity is set to 1. And when left, the form opacity is set to 0.7 .However, what happens right now is obviously that when the user changes the mouse position from one user control to another, the form opacity flickers (turns to 0.7 and back to 1 really fast).
I saw that you can also use a "Settings File" (Add new Item)to add your settings instead of the application settings. But I can't seem to write any values to the file. Someone with experience with the "Settings1.settings"?
View 2 RepliesI set up some application settings for checkboxes on an app and then decided to remove them. When I set the Application Settings to (none) in the designer and restarted the app, the checkbox constantly checks and unchecks itself. I completely remade the app and removed the file that is used to store my.settings in the Local folder of the user's appdata profile. I also made sure to uncheck the "save my.settings" on shutdown.

View 7 RepliesIs it possible to set the opacity of controls separate from the opacity of the main form window? What I want is to be able to set the form window and labels as "see through" (but not invisible) while keeping the data fields fully visible or mostly visible.
For example, form background and labels at 50% opacity and comboboxes and listboxes at 90% opacity.
I searched around google for a couple of hours to see if I could find anything on what I wanted to do.
Needless to say, I didn't find much. Basically, what I want to do is, when my main form loads, I want to load another form that sticks to the desktop but is transparent (Opacity) except for the text I want in it.
The only thing I could find is how to reduce the opacity of the form. I don't want the form to have a border or be able to be moved around by the user. I still want the user to be able to put icons over it, but not mess with it. I also don't want it to show up on the task bar. Kind of like a background in it's own right.
I'm not even sure if a form is what I need to do this. I imagine that it can be done.

The company has been using Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 2.0 for approximately 2 years. During that time we released several versions (4.x.x) of our program to the public and were able to preserve the user's settings using My.Settings.Upgrade.During the past development cycle we upgraded the program to Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 and changed the version to 5.x.x. Now, when a user upgrades from 4.x.x to 5.x.x they lose all of their settings.However, in all upgrades after that point (ie 5.0 to 5.1) all the user's settings are once again preserved.I checked C:Documents and Settings<USER_NAME>Local SettingsApplication DataCompanyName and it contains two directories:
ApplicationName_Url_aaa ApplicationName_Url_bbb
where aaa and bbb are 32 character strings. All of the user.config files for the 4.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_ Url_aaa directory. All of the user.config files for the 5.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_Url_bbb directory.Based on this information it seems like something changed when we converted our program to VS2010 and Framework4 that is now causing a different 32 character string to be generated. However, we have been unable to track it down.
