VS 2008 Override Picturebox.Load Event?
Feb 2, 2010
Basically, what I want to do is create a new control called EncryptedPictureBox. The image path I would be loading into ImageLocation would be the path of a 512 bit encrypted image. Normally if I load this type of file, it will not display. So I want to override Load() so that I can write the encrypted image to a stream, decrypt it, and then display the stream. I'm trying to save processing time so I don't have to grab the encrypted image, save it to disk as a decrypted image, then display it, then when done, delete the decrypted image from disk.

I have to two forms. Form one has several check boxes and when a button is pressed, a second form is opened and certain functions are ran based on which check boxes are selected.The problem is that the second form doesn't show until all of the functions are done.I decided to use the Form's Activated event, which works fine. However, the event fires every time the form comes into focus.Is there anyway to override the event and make it only fire once?

I have a question about drawing a string on a picturebox in the form load event. So I have a picturebox on a form and in the form load event of this form I have this code:
Dim gx As Graphics = PictureX.CreateGraphics
Dim f As Font = New Font("Arial", 8)
Dim brr As Brush = New SolidBrush(Color.Black)
' Add the copyright text
gx.DrawString("1", f, brr, 2, 5)
But when I load the program nothing is drawn in the picturebox. Is there something wrong with the code or should I use the paint event of the picturebox?
By the way I also used this code in another program and there it works flawlessly, everything is drawn in the right place there when i load the program.

I'm trying to validate a few things in a form I'm building. It has a datagrid with clients info (taken from an access database) and a few textboxes where the user can type some search criteria. The thing is that those same textboxes are used to add new clients to the database and to modify a client's information if one from the datagrid is selected, so I made it that the buttons to insert and modify clients are disabled on load and thenevery time the text on a textbox changes ("TextChanged" event) they become enabled. So far so good. But then I wanted to make it so when a client from the datagrid is selected both buttons become disabled again until the text on a textbox changes (to make sure they're adding a different client and not the same one that was
selected).
I tried using the CellClick event from the datagrid to disable the buttons, but since every time a client is selected from the datagrid the info is shown on the textboxes, this triggers the TextChanged event too, and the buttons become available.So, is there a way I can tell the TextChanged event not to be triggered when the CellClick event occurs?

I started off with a VERY simple form and added a picturebox item to it. The code I was following used a procedure in the Form1.vb to override the transparent color of the image:
bmp.MakeTransparent(Color.Fuchsia)
bmp was defined in the Form's "Load" section.
Now things are different. I have more than 20 picturebox items now, each created in the Form1.Designer.vb code as follows:
Me.Tile020.Image = CType(resources.GetObject("Tile020.Image"), System.Drawing.Image)
Me.Tile020.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(922, 297)
Me.Tile020.Name = "Tile020"
Me.Tile020.Size = New System.Drawing.Size(64, 64)
Me.Tile020.TabIndex = 3
Me.Tile020.TabStop = False
The image is referenced from the resources. When I run the program, I'd like all these images to have their backgrounds transparent. None of these controls is currently referenced anywhere in the code at present. What's the best way to get them to display transparently, other than recreating them as transparent .PNG's?

I have a WinForms application (OwnerForm) with some UserControl. When textbox of UserControl is changed, I want to filter content of a OwnerForm. But how can I make it? I don't want to specify OwnerForm inside the user control. I know a solution to add manually handlers for MyUserControl.tb.TextChanged to some functions on a owner form, but I think it's bad way. I'll prefer to have overridable functions, but I can't imagine how to do it.

I would like to shadow/override an event in VB.NET v2
I need to do it, because I need to implement a interface, let's name it IVisibleChanged, on the custom objects that does not have defined this event, and on the objects that already have defined this event (custom Button, by eg.)[code]...

I would like to shadow/override an event in VB.NET. I do it only because I have to implement in this object an interface, that contains the same event like the base object itself, and I need to keep this base event as is it without modification nor supplementary event additions.How can I do it?
Public Shadows Event VisibleChanged As EventHandler Implements IVisibleChanged
So, I would like to implement a interface that contains VisibleChanged event, but to keep functional the myBase VisibleChanged event too.

picCharacter.Image = Image.FromFile("ResourcesRight MovementRight-01.png")
What do I put in front of the "Resources.." that would make it load it from the projects folder?

Ok, I've been searching all over the web for an answer to this and I'm getting nowhere. I've found several examples and tried code translators, but they either fail to compile at all (syntax is wrong) or fail to solve the problem. Here is what I am up against:
I am trying to implement a service object class for the POS for .NET library using VB9. Specifically, the BillDispenser class. I define my class and inherit from Microsoft.PointOfService.BillDispenser. As normal, it creates stubs for all the MustOverride (abstract) properties and methods that I need to override (I love that), EXCEPT for the DirectIOEvent. Apparently this event is defined as abstract in the POSCommon base class, but VB doesn't generate a stub for it.
No compile errors are generated from not defining it, but I get the following runtime error as soon as my unit test attempts to load the dll[code]...

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe most (if not all) classes in the CLR that raise events raise those events from protected methods, for example Form.OnMouseDown... so... In a subclass, when would you want to override the "OnXyzMethod" instead of simple adding an event handler like Visual Studio does by default when you want to handle a controls event?

It's probably bad practice to rely on the form load event by running too much code in it? I have a lot in there just to get things setup for the program and much of it gets repeated later on in other events, so there is some redundancy. But is it good practice to make sure that you never "count on" anything in the form load event?

I try to run a custom sub procedure from the form load event. It keeps crashing. I believe it is because all of the controls are not loaded and the sub procedure makes use of some controls. How can I make sure everything is loaded before the sub procedure is run?

I have a problem. Im trying to create a form that enables a user to add dots on a mouse click event over an office floor plan. I have searched the web and this site but still am struggerling. My aim is to be able to draw dots (purpose is to highlight problems) and polygons over the plan (purpose to define which service area the floor area relates). I want to save all graphics to an access database with associated
fields.
My thinking is to place a second picture box over the first and make this transparent and use this as the user interface? I dont expect anyone to solve this for me, however, any help with how to draw dots and polygons through mouse down or mouse click would be most helpful.

Following on from my post yesterday (how to anchor buttons/controls to various sides of the current form when the form is resized) I have run into another problem. I am setting the width of my datagrid to be 80% of the form width on a 'form resize' event with 10% of the width at either side so it remains centred in whatever size window is available. This works fine. (mydatagrid.width = me.width/5*4)
I then decided to dynamically set the width of the 2 columns in the datagrid each to 50% of the width of the datagrid. Again, this sub is called in the 'form resize' event. This fails because the datagrid hasn't loaded the data from my sql database when the first 'resize' event is triggered. I did a bit of testing (by placing a simple msgbox statement into the resize event and the load event) and it seems the 'resize' event is triggered three times before the form's load event.
how do I stop the resize event triggering when the form loads (or at least make the load event trigger first).

For the page I'm developing I need a DropDownList with CheckBoxes on it, so that the users can choose more than one option without having to use the Ctrl key (and it's more intuitive). Because my options are being retrieved from the Database, the list of option can be really big, so using a CheckBoxList would use a lot of space. with this? I'm almost desperate! I have been search for a couples day, but having problems in everything I tried. What I'm trying to do now is override the DropDownList control (as suggested in this forum: [URL]), but I'm having problems right in the first line:
