How you set data type to string? I am using this source:
Dim Resp As String = AxInet1.OpenURL("[URL]", vbNullString)
TextBox1.Text = Resp
I need to replace the vbnullstring. On other forums, people are saying to use icstring but still i am getting an error that it is not declared and I added reference to imports system.text.
Errors:
A first chance exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred in AxInterop.InetCtlsObjects.dll
A first chance exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' occurred in AxInterop.InetCtlsObjects.dll
I need to create a function which have either 1 parameter with a string as data type or 2 parameters with double as data type.Something like the substring method.
When setting a DataSet row column to Nothing, like row.Date = Nothing, why does it initialize it to the data type minvalue? In this case a date, that gets set to 0000-01-01. The column is set to allow null etc., and if I don't set the row to anything at all, it will leave the column empty. So why does Nothing act this way?
In C# I would've set it to DbNull, I guess, but I'm a tad green on VB.NET - as you might be able to tell. :)
I have a program that calculates commission, but if the commission is nothing then I do not want it to show a zero commission. I want a message box to show a message that there is no commission earned.

I am importing an Excel spreadsheet, turning it into a dataset and inserting the results into SQL Server (only 100 rows).
I am having an issue with one of the date columns in Excel, which can have a value or not. The "F" column is the one that may be blank and this is the error I get: Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid.
How can I add a check to the Dim F As Date = CDate(row(5)) to handle a null?

Columns 0 & 1 are filled from a DataAdapter from Access Database and three are added. I had this working, but I changed it to check for the column "Feed" so I could add several Locations. At first this worked, but I did someething in perfecting it and it now fails after filling the first row of the datagridview (dgvFdMed).I ran a check and the table LotsTab has 8 rows filled. Column 1 & 2 are strings and the database appears they are fine. The added columns have just been created with no value. My plan is to enter the values and then use the data from the grid.

I have a number of controls (Device1, Device2, etc.) that all inherit from BaseDeviceControl. In the DragEnter event handler I am trying to test for the correct type by using the BaseDevvceControl like this....
I'm making a card game and the first thing I'm doing for it is generating a random card. I used an array for the cards (can't think of a better way to assign a picturebox to a card picture other then a huge select case block). I'm trying to split the 2D array into two parts but it doesn't work.
My current
vb Public Class frmMain Private Function Flop() 'First three common cards to be displayed.

A string can contain from 0 to approximately 2 billion (2 ^ 31) Unicode characters. Does this mean the length field for the string is a 4 byte unsigned binary field, or is it a 4 byte signed binary ?

So I'm trying to create a program in Visual Basic for my uni coursework and I'm kinda stumped a tad here. I've created most of it, I just need to write the files to a txt file (in the same folder as the program [bin/debug]).
I'm creating a some kind of employee reference form. Fill in your details, figures out gross pay, net pay and all the taxes an employer has to deal with. When you press Save, the details should all write to a file and I should be able to select from multiple ID's in my combobox for the employee ID reference. If I try to save a file with the same ID number I should get thrown an error. every ID should be saved under the Employee ID box.
Here's my code for the save button:
Private Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click Dim s As employee = New employee
I am working on a program that has a combobox that gives you selections for email address endings, but when I try to enter it in as part of the final email address get an error. Here is my mail.To.Add(TextBox1.Text(ComboBox1.Text))
When I click debug, it give me this error. "Conversion from string "@txt.att.net" to type 'Integer' is not valid." "@txt.att.net" is the value of the combobox selection. In the end it should be something like: "anything@txt.att.net" (Textbox1.text = "Anything" & the current ComboBox1.text selection = "@txt.att.net")
I'm trying to delete the 2 last characters of a string if they are "||". This is my Dim MyReader As Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.TextFieldParser MyReader = My.Computer.FileSystem.OpenTextFieldParser(playlist) Dim TextFields As String() = MyReader.ReadFields() Dim last As String = TextFields.Last If last.Substring(last - 2) = "||" Then last.Remove(last - 2) End If But it gave me the following error on the highlighted line: "The converting from the string to the type Double is not valid."
