VS 2008 Shortcuts Created By Installation Running MSI?
Aug 22, 2009
I seem to be having an issue with Building my application. THe programs builds just fine, but when you install the program and then run the program it wants to act like its configuring the program, prior to running the actual program.I get a windows box that pops up stating its configuring the program and then it runs. But it only happens when I access the program through the shortcuts that I have the program create when it installs. If I go directly to the program directory and click on the program there, it starts just fine.

I have created a custom installer in VB.Net to create directories during installation. Now I want to delete those directories and sub directories during un-installtion.
Public Overrides Sub Install(ByVal stateSaver As System.Collections.IDictionary)
MyBase.Install(stateSaver)
InstallDir = Me.Context.Parameters("dir")
Try
Dim f1 = System.IO.Path.Combine(InstallDir, "f1")
Dim f2= System.IO.Path.Combine(InstallDir, "f2")
[Code] .....
But its not happening the directories and the files in the installed directory are not getting deleted.

In a VB.NET Winforms application, I have a form that contains both a datagridview and a textbox. I have some menu item entries that have shortcuts of Ctrl + X, Ctrl + C, and Ctrl + V that operate on the datagridview. However, these override the default cut, copy, and paste shortcuts for the textbox. How can I make the menu shortcuts only apply when the datagridview has focus?

I have taken over support for a VB.Net WinForms application. When this application is installed via a ClickOnce installation it generates a shortcut on the desktop. The annoying thing, though, is that if you do a right click and properties on the shortcut that was created, it is clear that it is not a regular shortcut as it does not have a target tab, so it is not obvious from the shortcut properties what this shortcut is referencing. So my questions relating to this are: what is the idea behind this kind of shortcut? Why is the the target for this type of shortcut hidden? (What are they even called? This is the first time I have ever seen a ClickOnce installation, so was somewhat surprised when I found that the properties tab was missing.) How do you find out what executable is being referenced by the shortcut?

I'm looking for suggestions on keeping a program that is running on a network updated. Installation consists of 15 users, each have the program on their local pc, but they all access same date from sql server. I am looking for a clean method that would allow me to update one folder on the network and for each computer to get updated when they run the program and the programs sees a later ver on that folder on the network. (Obviously I can do this inside the program itself since it won't allow being overwritten while opened.)

i'm new to the VB programing world, actually to programming world in general, so before i start i have a question. I've heard that to run programs created in VB you need to have NET Framework on your comp, is this true?Cause i found somewhere on the web that you have a exe in your Debugging folder, and i tried running it on my friends comp which is without framework and it worked. Don't know if this was some error or something, and if there will be problems if i run them like this, so i wanted to ask professionals,

I'm looking to be a able to add my own windows shortcuts which take effect when my own program is running in the background. For example, if the user has Notepad open, they may press Alt+F4 to close it. I would like the Windows Key + Q to do the same action. So Windows Key + Q = Alt + F4.There are a few shortcuts I would like to do but if someone could help me do it for this one then I should be able to take it from here.

I'm trying to add .lnk files to a setup project but am unsuccessful. I have 2 custom shortcuts that I created which link to a network share, but everytime I try to add them to the setup project in the users desktop or start menu, vs simply doesn't allow it. No message box or error box appears, I select the .LNK file to add and it "pretends" to add it and allows me to select it, but doesn't appear in the setup project folders.

I have the following code which I use in another Form and it works perfectly. I copied the same code to another form, changed the controls, keys combinations, etc., but the keyboard shortcuts do nothing at runtime. None of the key combinations work, it throws no Exceptions,I put a MessageBox in the F1 KeyDown conditional, but it doesn't show. That tells me that it's not Handling the KeyDown Event.[code]

Alright, my program requires a folder to put the save files in, and it works fine to create it when I know where the program was installed to. I want to assume that everyone will install to C:/Program Files... however, one cannot assume. Is there a way for me to find out where the program was installed to ie. D:/WorkPrograms/ProgramHere, instead of the Program files? Specifically, is there some sort of code that I can run at startup to find where the program file is, so I can keep all the save files in there?

I have created a setup project that after the installation, starts the app that is being installed. To do that I have added an Installer class to the app I want to get started and I am using it's commited event to start the app (Process.Start("...myapp.exe").
While this works fine on XP, on Windows Vista the application gets started as a "System" user which makes some parts of the app missbehave i.e. retreiving special folders of the user etc...
This is the question: way to start myapp as the logged in user? Mind you I will not have the credentials of the users.

I want to include the .Net Framework 3.5 and Crystal Reports and all the files that are necessary to run my Application. so that when I run that setup (installation package of my application) all the necessary files installed automatically.

I am using VB 2008 express. I created a setup file for installation using the publish command. When I install on another computer, it installs under the documents and settings directory. I want it to install under program files like most other programs.
I've search everywhere on the web for this. The closest thing i could find was talking about the DefaultFolder under the projects applications folder. I don't see that option. I can specify all the publication directories - but these are strictly for where VB creates the setup file at - not where the setup file installs it. Frankly it would be really nice to be able to allow the user to specify the directory as an option, with program files as the default. But for now I'd be happy to just be able to change the default install directory for my app.
