View 2 RepliesI have a problem concerning the Form_Loading event: When I want to load a new Form (ImageDisplay) the ImageDisplay_Load Event is not executed first.
Instead it runs through the global variables definitions and then executes a Private Sub called numericupdown1_changed.
The numericupdown1 field is part of the form I want to load and has not been touched.
That is my calling sequence:
Private Sub Dispalydata_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Dispalydata.Click
Dim myDisplay As New ImageDisplay
[Code]...
The strange thing is that for other forms in my code it works well and starts with the form_load function.
I am having a problem in Form_Load. When the following code executes the form pops up with out executing any further code: Me.TblAssetsTableAdapter.Fill(Me.ITP400_IP3_ADataSet.tblAssets).
I am trying to use Form_Load to populate values in a ListBox control from an Access database table. It appears the problem was in the Compile settings. It was the 'old' problem of using AnyCPU on an x64 machine. I changed the Compile setting to x86 and the problem disappeared.
I am using visual studio 2005. I want my form should be editable, when i am pressing some function key. Like, when form load, no field should be editable. When i will press "Ctrl + N" or "Ctrl + F2" Key then only form should be editable. Is this possible?
View 7 Repliesdoes anyone know why the form load event being completely ignored/bypassed during loading the app? The form loads but none of the code in form_Load sub being executed (yes I tried putting a break inside the sub and it didn't trap)
View 13 RepliesI'm having an interesting issue that I can't reproduce on a different project, but can consistently on this one. I have no clue what might be causing it, but am hoping that someone may have seen it before.
I have a main form, from which I run a series of checks. On this form, I have a listview control. Because of some issues with the refreshing of this listview control, I had to create my own messagebox. It's just a form that displays some text ( it also happens to look nicer than MsgBox; in my opinion, anyways ). It's been working great for months, until recently.
My problem is that on my main form's load event, I run this check, which returns an error within a try/catch block. I then call my custom messagebox with a message. It in turns calls it's ShowDialog() function.
In any other situation ( after the main form has been loaded ), I have no problems. The messagebox goes on the screen and behaves appropriately ( ie: waits for my input and acts as a modal dialog ( stops execution of my main form's thread ) ). However, on this onload event, my messagebox comes up and goes away almost immediately afterwards.
I've traced it all the way to the showdialog() call. For no explicable reason, it appears to skip right over this call, without me doing anything on the form.
Here's what the inner trace looks like ( when I put a breakpoint on the onclosing event for this messagebox form ):
CODE:
I migrate a project from vb6 to vb.net.In vb.net project form's events are fired randamly. I mean form_Activated event are fired first after that form_Load event are fire. and this events are fired more than one time.what condition form_Activated event fired before form_Load event.
View 2 RepliesI have a form that I call from another form. Whenever I call it using form.showdialog() or form.show() the form appears, but it never executes the code that is in the form_load sub.
What's the deal? I call other forms in the same manner and they all load and execute the load code without issue.
Create a Visual Basic project with a Form that displays a seating chart for a small theater. Assume that the theatre has 25 rows and each row has 10 seats. The following image shows the completed main Form for the solution.
Write statements in the Form Load event to instantiate an object from the splash screen form and then display it as a modal window. Write the statements so that when the main Form loads (after displaying the splash screen) it will dynamically create the 2-dimensional array of CheckBoxes on the Form. The CheckBoxes should be created inside a scrollable Panel control instance. Above the scrollable Panel control instance display the column numbers (1 to 10).
I am working with a simple game idea. I wanted to have two players running around shooting each other (very low graphics, like circles and squares). I've got this far; I have the ability to move around both characters, and change directions etc. ive also been able to set up my shooting. Only problem I run into is getting the bullet to move! I cant use a preset timer, because if I used that, I could only shoot one bullet at a time, so I would need to create new ones dynamically.
So my question is; how does one add dynamic timers to a form on runtime, and alter the tick sub so that it moves the picturebox (bullet) and once it can be moved, (I was thinking about using player locations in relation to the bullet, and if they were equal than the health would go down or whatever, but unfortunately, this means it would have to be directly in the middle of the player, which would be odd..
I have a background application that has a System.Timers.Timer running in it.When the elapsed event is raised I want to show a form. Now if I call form.showDialog everything is hunky dory. If I call form.show the form is not responding ... Now I suspect that this is happenening because the elapsed event is raised on a secondary thread but that said I dont know how to fix this.
View 10 RepliesI was under the impression that there was not much difference between Sub New() and Form_Load. However, I found one weird bug...Add a combobox and a label to a form, and the following code:
Public Class Form1
Private mstrOutput As String = ""[code].....
The label text shows that the value of ComboBox1.Text changes between Sub New() and Form_Load.Is this meant to happen?
I created a timer in the main form - form1 which then updates some text in form2 each 100ms. Now When I click a button in form1, the timer stops. Why? Happens no matter if timers are on or off by default. I have to open/close form2 to make my status updates work again - that's where I run the timer on form load and stop the timer on form close.
Was doing it in windows 2010 express.
So this is what I have in form1:
Public Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
'some stuff
[Code].....
Im trying to make a custom splash screen , but i cant seem to get it to work. Im trying to display a welcome screen for 3 seconds then close and display form1 (main form).Heres my current code.

I want to draw graphics onto a form without using paint or load events.
This Example works untill the graphics get covered and uncovered. Then the graphics vanish.

Dim DrwBrdr

I am using timers in a windows service and facing problem that anytime some exception happens ( say i unplug LAN wire from my computer ) service stops running, What i am expecting is that service should keep on running as i am catching generic exception which should catch the exception on one tick event and again work (next tick)when i plug in LAN wire (i am plugging/un plugging ) LAN wire as this service is reading database from LAN so i want to replicate a failover scneario)
View 3 RepliesI have a label that is supposed to display a word for 5 seconds and then move down the list in a text file and display the next word.I'm oddly able to make it work in random mode, but not going down the list in order.. random would be ok if used words didn't come up again.
Code:
Dim DurHold As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText(Application.StartupPath & "FlashWords.txt")

Dim DurTextLines() As String = DurHold.Split(DurDelimiters, StringSplitOptions.RemoveEmptyEntries)

Quick question - if I have a timer set to 5000 (5 seconds) and the code in the timer takes longer than 5 seconds to run because of sql stuff, will the timer wait until the code is done till it fires again?
View 3 RepliesI want to display an imagejust for 2 second when i click the btn i want to show image then after 2 second automaticly image most be hide ! can i do this whithout timer?
View 2 Repliesi have a problem: I have a Form_Load-Method which is not doing all the commands in it. It just interrupts and jumps to the "Form_Paint"-Event, eventhough i did not yet paint anything or invalidated any object. The Form_Load-Method is this:
[Code]...
the dashed line indicates the point of termination. the for-loop is simply not done. i tried it with stop points and the last point it stops is the ReDim-part. this can only mean, that the ReDim-Command forces the program to leave the method. but the for loop is never done afterwards. Can you help me? Because i really dont get it.
The application I'm writing requires the user to select a certain directory on their hard-drive (a game directory), which is saved to the Settings. If the directory is not selected, my application can't work. So, when the program starts for the first time, the directory setting will not be present, and I want my application to ask the user to select the correct directory before the application starts (the main form is shown). I used the following code in the Form_Load event of my main form:
vb.net
If My.Settings.WolfPath = String.Empty Then
MessageBox.Show("Please select your root 'Wolfenstein - Enemy Territoryetmain' mapping installation.", "Select W:ET Path", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information)
[code]....
It looks pretty complicated (probably too complicated) but I wanted to make sure that the user cannot continue until a valid directory has been selected. So when the user cancels the folder selection, my application should end. If the user selects an invalid directory (it should end in "etmain") it should display a messagebox and show the folder browser dialog again. It should keep doing this until the correct path has been chosen. The problem occurs when an invalid directory is first chosen. The messagebox does show, but it shows behind all other applications! It took me a minute to figure that out, because I could not find my application anywhere, but Visual Studio still said it was running... After finally finding the messagebox behind everything else, it seems that now everything comes up behind everything else! When I click OK on the messagebox, the new folder browser dialog also shows up in the background, etc, etc. If I then choose a valid directory, the application loads the main form in the background...
I thought at first the problem would be the fact that I am running this code in the Form_Load event. A better place perhaps would be a Sub Main() from which the main form would be loaded explicitly (Application.Run(mainForm)). However, I can only select Forms as the Startup Form. If I disable the "Enable application framework" checkbox I can select the Sub Main() as Startup Object, but all the visual styles are lost...?
how does one get to raise an event from clicking an item and goes to a new form show??
View 1 RepliesHow to display time without seconds in label? For example: 13:17
View 1 RepliesI tried Console.WriteLine(Cstr(DateTime.Now)) and it shows the time down to the seconds, ie, "5/26/2009 5:17:02 PM" But, is there an option to show the current time more detailed than seconds, ie, "5/26/2009 5:17:02.xxx PM"
View 2 RepliesIs it possible to trigger event whenever seconds on stopwatch change (that means every second, but it has to be synchronized with seconds)?
View 6 RepliesFor couple of hobby projects of mine, I've been performing form transitions (fade-in/out, slide-left/right) using timer control, and I know its not the right way to do it. Using timer has its own disadvantages as it is a CPU hog if logic is complex and also, transitions are not smooth. So, I'm wondering how can I perform form transitions without using any timers and just by using native Windows API or any third-party library. I came across with FlowFX but found that it is limited only to .NET Compact framework.
View 1 RepliesI have a datagridview bound to an Access datatable. It is nothing more than a one column list of chemicals. To allow the user to more easily navigate the list, if they press a letter it will jump to the first chemical alphabetically of that letter. If they keep tapping that same letter it will move down that list one by one. This all works fine. The problem is if you hold down the letter it will progress down the list but it doesn't show that progression. I want it to function much like if you hold down the down arrow key in a datable you'll see each successive cell be selected as it goes down the column.
