VS 2008 Cross-thread Error, Change Control Property By (other) Class Event PropertyChanged?

Apr 1, 2010

I need some help to understand my options to get this working. I try to update a textbox control by a property-changed event from a class variable. I've digged around for a day and have a vague understanding that this can be solved in three ways:

1. Using some "if InvokeRequired", "Invoke" code in the handler method
2. By programming a special delegate class for this variable
3. By using a databinding directly linking the control (textbox) to the class event

Now.. Are these options correct? And would it be possible to get some help to show these three solutions in actual code (relevant to mine)? I can't seem to manage to sort all the information to a working code. Also, what are the pros and cons of the different solutions?

As my code stands now, it's obviously none of the above, as it gives a cross-thread error, as indicated.

Unable To Set Value Of Property

Jun 19, 2011

I'm accessing a router using Webbrowser, to get some information from it.After logging into the main page, you click on a link which runs a script to display the info you want. I can do this OK in Firefox or Internet Explorer. In my VB program, having navigated successfully to the router's main page, I try to do this by using InvokeMember ("click") on the appropriate link element in the document and get this error in the script that runs:
"Unable to set the value of the property 'location': value is null or undefined".I don't know how to see the source code of this script, so any ideas on what the error may mean? When I hover over the link in Firefox, the status bar shows it as: javascript:MainFunction('./cgi-bin/v2x00.cgi?fid=168')

Forms :: Change A Property On Form - Doesn't Show That Change

Jan 13, 2010

I'm working on a simple base form in which all the other forms in the project will inherit. This base form only adds 5 properties (at the moment) dealing with painting a gradient background. The problem I'm facing right now is when I change a property on Form1 (the test form) and click run it doesn't show that change. I also checked the .designer.vb file and when I make a change it's not added to the code behind file, I'm at a loss right now to why.

Unable To Retrieve AplicationSettings Information (object Name, Property Name) For Connection?

Dec 5, 2006

I am faced with the prospect of having to completely rewrite the application.I have suddenly started to get this error message all the time - it seemed to start after I added a table to the schema, but deleting the table makes no difference. I can't see anything wrong with the connection string, but as it seems to be entirely undocumented, that doesn't mean much.

The connection string contains DataSource=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory| est.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=Trueand certainly the string works when I use "test connection" from the application setting edit box. I am assuming that for some reason it is not evaluating the Data Directory , but can't see any reason why it shouldn't. Any ideas gratefully received! What might be a clue though is that I can't get rid of the table I added. I have deleted it from the database, deleted it from designer and saved the file, but it just keeps reapearing! Even when it is not showing, there is still a
table adapter in the .xsd file. I am reluctant to start editing this manually because of the danger of screwing something else up - I did try but it caused an error somewhere else (VS helpfully didn't say where)

Unable To Change SeriesChartType Dynamically

Dec 30, 2010

I am using the MS Chart control (version 3.5.0). I have added it by using the designer (drag and drop). I removed the default "Series1" from the Properties -> Series -> Collection so that the chart contains no data. I am adding the data at runtime based on a canned query to a SQLite DB. Like so:

Dim SQL As String = "SELECT * FROM ageLength ORDER BY month"
Dim cmd As New SQLiteCommand(SQL)
Dim SqLiteConnection1 As SQLiteConnection = New SQLiteConnection()
SqLiteConnection1.ConnectionString = "Data Source=" & My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "DataUserData.db3;"
cmd.Connection = SqLiteConnection1
[Code] .....

The data is displayed on the Chart, however, it is a Bar type graph. I set it to use the Spline type for both series.

VS 2010 : Unable To Change AD Account's Password?

Jun 14, 2011

I'm trying to change the password of an AD account in our domain. The program is supposed to locate the sAMAccountName property in AD through an LDAP connection, and then do two things. 1) unlock the user's account by setting the "LockOutTime" property to zero and 2) change the password to a pre-defined password in the code. I've got the program unlocking accounts, but I can't get it to change passwords.

I've tried the line "DirectoryEntry.Properties("userPassword").Value = "xxxxx". I've also tried the DirectoryEntry.Invoke("SetPassword", New Object() {"xxxxx"}) but neither of them work. The first one throws no exceptions but doesn't change the password, and the second one will give me the message "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation".

VS 2008 - Property Grid - Click On Item Show Its Property

Mar 18, 2009

I have a listbox with several list items added. I want that as user click on an item, I should be able to show its property. This should change for different items. For example (hypothetical) : Listbox has numbers 1 - 10. Now when I select 1 I should be able to set property - Name, Lastname, Colour, Age.

When I select 2 I should be able to set - Age, Hair Colour (clr shows), Weight, Date. When I select 3 then - City (combo box drop down), Country, Age only. This way value changes for diff items. One way is to put them in property grid and show them. Though this looks nice but adding/removing items in that is not easy. You need to have a class that refer that to prop grid. Do I have to code for each classes for all values in listbox or is there an easier way to manage items in property grid. If you think prop grid is not the right tool for such an activity then can you suggest something else.

Multimonitro - Unable To Change Position If Theme Changed?

May 17, 2011

1.Multiple monitors are connection to one computer and they are extended.

2.My window spans to two monitors (Any window like notepad or settings wizard).

3.We change Visual Style From ON to OFF ( i.e. Changed theme from basic and high contrast to Aero or vice versa)

4.The window which was present on two gets shifted to either primary or secondary monitor.

5.This behavior is ok with normal application but I am developing such application which fails if window moves away.

6.I have added handler to check if user changes theme or visual style using :

AddHandler SystemEvents.UserPreferenceChanged, AddressOf UserPreferenceChangedHandler And in UserPreferenceChangedHandler I have checked if UserPreferenceCategory.VisualStyle changed and if it is changed then I have reset the window position back to old values before theme changed , but still it not reverting back to old position.

7.One strange behavior I observed is, it works if I set break point and step through code , but if I remove it then it's not working.

a. Added handler to catch user preferences changed event.

Private Sub RecordingWindow_Load(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
AddHandler SystemEvents.UserPreferenceChanged, AddressOf UserPreferenceChangedHandler
End Sub

b. Copied old position

Protected Overrides Sub WndProc(ByRef m As System.Windows.Forms.Message)
If m.Msg = WM_MOVING Then
' Console.WriteLine("Window is moving")

[code]...

d . This is additional code which i tried instead of WndProc

Private Sub RecordingWindow_LocationChanged(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.LocationChanged
_windowLocBeforThemeChanged = Me.Location
End Sub
