VS 2008 Error: Error71Option Strict On Prohibits Operands Of Type Object For Operator '&'
Aug 4, 2009
Dim lastidcmd As New SqlCommand("SELECT MAX(ProformaID) FROM " & IIf(boolException, "ImportException_Proforma", "Proforma") & " WHERE SupplierId=" & CustomerId & ";", con)
in the part marked in red I get this error:Error71Option Strict On prohibits operands of type Object for operator '&'.how can I fix this. I turned on Option Strict today and got this error.
I am tightening up my coding with the Option Strict set to ON. It has now produced alot of errors. An example of this is:
If AllocatedDGV.Rows(i).Cells("RoomNumber").Value = RoomsAvailableDGV.Rows(j).Cells("RoomName").Value Then
It gives me the following error: Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity.
I need to write an interface to get data to/from our data files.
We have a low level class that holds field values for each record read from the files.
This just holds two values, the value read from the file (DBValue) and the updated value that may need to be written back to the file (CurrentValue).
These values may be any of the standard value types (integer, date etc) or a string.
Either value (DBValue or CurrentValue) may be null if not defined.
I have written the class to manage this data which works fine while option strict is NOT on.
But we have an office policy of having option strict on all the time.
When I put option strict on, my object value comparisons fail with the error: "Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity."
Question, how should I change the following code to handle option strict on ...
I am using a background worker and am attempting to use the following code. However I keep getting this error on i "Unable to cast object of type 'ObjectCollection' to type 'System.Array'."
Private Sub btnVerify_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnVerify.Click myArray = listProxies.Items() BackgroundWorker1.RunWorkerAsync() End Sub
Okay, I am TOTALLY confused here. I have a class... say MyClass. It has several properties of another class of my type, say MyHelperClass (along with other properties).
I am doing the following: Dim inst As MyClass = New MyClass() With { .p1 = sv1,
I have an error in my VB.net program - I have tried various casts etc but it just will not resolve the issue - so reluctantly I post it here to see if anyone else has a similar problem.
Error 1 Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'Object' to 'String'.
Private DS As New DataSet ' Languages Function TransTxt(ByVal Frm As String, ByVal Item As String) As String
But I get a runtime error that Operator '=' is not defined for types 'Object' and '1-dimensional array of DataRow' There should be an easy way to do this that doesn't involve creating new tables, etc.
Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs' to type 'System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellMouseEventArgs'.
Private Sub NoteGrid_CellContentClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles NoteGrid.CellContentClick Try
I have a series of API calls that are returning J# data types. I have been able to convert most of the data types (Integer, Boolean, Double, Float, etc) just fine. What I need to do now is convert a java.Util.Collection to a VB .NET collection (ArrayList)
Here is my attempt:
Public Function MakeDotNETCollection(ByVal javaCol As java.util.Collection) As Collection Dim dotNetCol As Collection
[code]....
I keep getting a runtime error "Unable to cast object of type 'AbstractListlistIterator' to type 'System.Collections.IEnumerator.
The latter is giving the error "Unable to cast object of type 'Object' to 'CTest'." when used:
Dim thestack As CTest() = testdatabase.getStack Where testdatabase.getStack simply returns stack(); Public Function getStack() As Object() Return stack End Function
This fixes it, but it's not ideal (for me personally):
Dim thestack As Object() = testdatabase.getStack
So if I could keep the variable as-is (Public stack() As Object) and then do something along the lines of class.stack() = CTest I should be able to do Dim thestack As CTest() = testdatabase.getStack because the object array will programmatically have changed from Object to CTest.
code]I tried to use the IS operator, it does not work if the check box is checked.I also tried changing .Value to .State without any success. It is last error I have left since I switched Strict Option On.
I have been trying to use vb2008 to automatically update CustomDocumentProperties fields that I have set up within a pro-forma document. I can load the Word application and word document without problems.I want to update the CustomDocumentProperties fields with data read from a dB. To do this I am assuming that I need to iterate through the CustomDocumentProperties fields within the word document and when one is "found" that matches the data I wish to merge then assign the dB value to the field. The problem is that I am getting an exception error when I try to reference the document customdocumentproperties
"Error : Unable to cast the COM object of type 'System._ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.CustomProperties'. ...... "
my code looks like;
Dim WordApp As Word._Application Dim odoc As Word._Document Dim BContinue As Boolean = True
Dim get_rmf_2 = From rmf In t_rmf _ Where rmf!NIVP = nivp_rap
When i run it i get an error :
Operator '=' is not defined for type 'DBNull' and string "test".
I suspect this is because the column "NIVP" in the datatable contains null values, I've tried yhe same thing without null values and it works. So how can i make this work ? ; the column "NIVP" really has a row "test" , and a normal SQL query works fine.
I have a vector class...and the magnitude is single precision...Now the problem is this, when I run this with option strict on, it gives me the going from double to a single error...Why? Does multiplication imply double precision?
So with option strict on, can you not multiply single precision numbers together and assign them to another single precision variable without first convert.tosingle?
What is the point of this? I am currently changing hundreds of lines of code in a project that runs perfectly...
I have an InvalidCastException Error in my program. The program is that i try to insert an employee record into a database table after getting the details from a form. I've used Money data type is SQL Server for salary and SqlTypes.SqlDecimal data type in employee template class. i've used a stored procedure to pass the values and i add the basic value by passing a parameter by the method
Dim prm8 As SqlParameter = com.Parameters.Add("@basic", SqlDbType.Money) prm8.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input prm8.Value = emp.Bsc
I've used the money datatype itself even in the stored procedure variable.I get the following error.
failed to convert parameter value from sql decimal to decimal Even if i use prm8.Value = Convert.ToDecimal(emp.Bsc)
I get an error Unable to cast object of type 'System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlDecimal' to type 'System.IConvertible'.
I am getting this error when I am tring to load string type to data table)
Using connection As New SqlConnection("connectionstring;") connection.Open() Using Command As New SqlCommand("SELECT ClientId,forename, surname from t_clientdetails
Public Pixels(0 To 95, 0 To 127) As Variant Red = Pixels(X, Y) And &HFF i get this code from VB6, and when i transfer to VB05 i got problem said " Operator 'And' is not defined for type 'Color' and type 'Integer'. " i sent to VS2005
Public Pixels(0 To 95, 0 To 127) As Object Dim red As Object Red = Pixels(X, Y) And &HFF

I have 2 Child forms inside a parent. For example, FrmChild1 contains a "Friend Sub" I wish to call.I would like one of the child forms to call that sub from another child form (we will call it FrmChild2. The following code works, but when it's done going through the "For Each", I get a "Invalid Cast"
