VS 2010 Best Option To Receive Emails In A VB Program
May 28, 2010
I've seen that there are several options out there for being able to send email from within a Visual Basic program, but I've seen much less written about how to use the program to receive emails. What I'd like to do is set up a dedicated email account (probably g-mail or Yahoo or something similar, although it could be through the email package that comes with my web hosting) that I'd use to send short text commands to the program from my laptop or smart phone. Periodically the program would download new emails (if any), and parse the body to see what I'm telling it to do. Something like, "cmd a" tells it to e-mail me Report A, "cmd b" tells it to e-mail me Report B, etc.

At present I have wrote an application (in-house CRM, vb .net 2010) which allows me to send emails under the selected customer & I categorised these emails.As these are categorised I can return data to display email history in my program by using search criteria:
Dim oMail As Outlook.MAPIFolder = oNS.GetDefaultFolder(Outlook.OlDefaultFolders.olFolderSentMail)
Dim sSearch As String
sSearch = "[Categories] = '" + "[" + tAccount.Text.Trim + "]" + "(" + tShipTo.Text.Trim + ")'"
Dim oItems As Outlook.Items = oMail.Items.Restrict(sSearch)
However the limitation to the above is it only looks at sent items & no other folder.My ideal solution would be to display all email correspondence for a certain contact.

how to download emails from a GMail account in a program I am creating for a clinic. I can send emails quite easily over SMTP, but can not find a way to recieve them (over POP3 or IMAP using SSL). I need to get the message body and the sender from each email in the inbox. It also needs to be native and can not use pay-for-use COM's and such. I am using Visual Basic Express 2010. Is there possibly a simple mail client program that is open source in VB.NET that I can tear apart?

I'm working on an automated program, and it needs to check the latest email on a certain account (which will be passed to it) every 15 seconds or so. Setting up the timer and the passing to the timer the username and password is easy, but it's the reading the email that I'm having trouble with. How exactly can I read the first few emails from my inbox and put them in an array? And after that, how can I access the body and subject, for example email.body and email.subject?

I want to make an app in VB Express 2010 that receives emails. Once an email is received the program would auto reply and send one line of text from a textbox. Then next to the line in the textbox it will put the email address of the recipient and a forward slash. So look at it this way.
Textbox1.text Contains
87077-91290-20228-65481-60901
69214-41847-57634-63453-48975
[Code]....
When that finishes then the next email that comes in would receive line 2 in the textbox and line 2 in the textbox would change like above. I think i can use a message queue from the tools in vb. And the email client is gmail.

I have decided to go down the MAPI / CDO or Winsock route in my application. Sending emails is easy enough. However, I need to retrieve and display emails. The slight twist in the tail is that I don't want to download / access all emails, just those from a certain sender's email address. Most users will have Outlook installed on the computer but i'd rather not rely on this unless I have to. I'm not sure which technology to use and how to go about this as I don't want to download all messages and then iterate through them. I'd rather just request emails with specific properties.

May i know how to insert a AT command method inside my program to receive incoming sms?
My program is in visual basic windows form 2005.
Here is how my program goes.
After i click connect button in my application, the gsm modem will automatically read the incoming sms and display in the textbox on the program.
I already have the list of AT commands to be used, they are :
1. AT
2.AT+CMGF=1
3.AT+CMGL="ALL"
I also would like to know how to declare these commands as string inside the program.
Here is my program so far:
CODE;
This code is for the user to click on connect button which will connect to the serial port. So after connecting the modem will then auto read and display new incoming sms.

Proper VB.NET syntax to accomplish the following:
.ForAllMembers(opt => opt.Condition(src => src.Value != "removeMe"))
This is the best I've got, but I get a design-time error on the last statement that reads "property access must assign to the property or use it's value"
.ForAllMembers(Function(opt) opt.Condition(Sub(src As OrganizationMetric) src.Value <> "removeMe"))

I have been developing a calculator for complex math. (Much more complicated than +,-,/,*, and above your usual scientific calculator)Its works quite well .In past programs I have used "private functions". I know that you give them a value and it returns on back. But what if you dont want to recive or send value? My example for this is a function I am attempting to make called "Autopi".The idea of Autopi is that whenever a mathimatical operation is about to be performed textbox(s) are cheked to see if they contain pi. (3.14 or 3.141) If they test positive Autopi will continue pi to however many places have been specifyed in the program. (Currently 300 places just beacuse i can :) Before the Autopi function does this it chekes to see if variable "pi" = 1. If it does it proceeds if it doesent its job is done
How would I create a code that can be called apon to activate but not recive or send any information through the program.And just to clarify what I mean by that is it will read information out of a textbox and write into it. But it wont actualy recive anything or send anything back from where it was called apon.

I've looked through a lot of snippets online and I see a lot of things similar to
Dim bytes(tcpClient.ReceiveBufferSize) As Byte
networkStream.Read(bytes, 0, CInt(tcpClient.ReceiveBufferSize))
but what I am unsure of when to call such a thing? How do I know when there is data to receive...in visual basic 6 with winsock, there was a specific routine which was called upon data arrival, but I see nothing of the sort for vbNet.
