I want to make a Small Traffic Monitoring Program for our house. Since in South Africa Internet is One of the many things that are way overpriced I want to monitor each computers traffic with a small Program since even when we are not at home for a day we might easily use 2 gigs of data. Somewhere a computer is downloading like mad?For a 4 mib(you only get 3.5 at most) line here Will cost you around R413(36 GBP/ 58 Usd) per month and One gig of data around R19(1.68 GBP/ 2.70 Usd) - R112(9.9 GBP - 15 USD).Ok enough Complaining. Each Computer in our house Connects to the internet either with lan or Wlan So is their a way to get how much traffic passes through one of those OR is there a way to monitor the total internet traffic regardless of how it connects to the internet ?

How can I monitor the internet traffic and identify when a specific website is visited so that a certain function could be run? I'm making a internet censor program for a school project.
For example, I want to be able to browse the internet all day long with the program running in the background, but once I were to visit a specific URL (listed in the code somewhere) the program would run a function when the specific URL is detected.

I want to create a Small application for all the computers in my house that Monitors Network Traffic Because we are using large amounts of data each month and that leads to high costs.I can Monitor A computers total traffic with the system.net.networkinterface namespace. Now I would like to know if it is possible to Monitor an Process/applications Network Traffic to pinpoint The Problem.I've Read About WMI But there is so Much info on MSDN that i can't actually get to what i want and i don't think there is something so direct like the amount of bytes sent over the network.

I am wanting to create an application that will monitor the upload/download traffic of a user. Can someone point me too some code that I can have a look at?I have found SharpPcap - A Packet Capture Framework for .NET, but cannot find any vb.net code for it.

I've been looking for a way to do this for like two days now, and no luck.
What I want to do is get into the temporary internet files, find a certain file....
(^^^ I can do that just fine (using specialfolders, etc) ^^^)
and get the internet address associated with it.

Can I monitor the registry for changes similar to how sysinternals process monitor does it in VB? I have checked many different articles and C# samples but not come any closer to getting an answer, I would like to know if there an easier way (a VB sample perhaps)that you folks can share. Ultimately I'd like to be able monitor other things too like file system, processes etc but wonder most about how the registry can be done in VB...Would using system.management be a start? Or WMI? if so is there a nice VB sample..

I have developed a small utility that can change the PC's brightness through the use fo a slider. I have achieved this with the SetDeviceGammaRamp API and the RAMP structure.As it is, it works. I am attaching the code here as well, so that you can see it works.Now, the problem is : At Form Load I am getting the current brightness settings for the monitor :

I'm unsure if this should be in Office Automation or here, but I opted for here because I'm creating a VB.Net program to handle all of the office automation and my questions are a combination of the VB.net portion and some of the VBA formatting. At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients. [code]Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this. Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?
Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?

I have a toolstrip along the top of my program. There is a right aligned drop down button that displays a menu. I have a 2 monitor system, and for some reason, the menu wants to open up on the other screen - the screen the program isn't on. How can I keep this menu on the proper screen?

I would like to know if its possible for my vb.net app to monitor a 3rd party application that it starts. I'd like it to check every 0.5 seconds to see if the child app has a dialog box visible with a specific text string caption. If it does then I want to close my app but if isn't yet visible, keep looping until it is. I'm asking because the 3rd party app has "no event firing when the application starts to load and then displays the dialog so there is no way for the 3rd party app to report back" to my vb.net app when this is loaded.
This came from the Technical Support from the 3rd party app after I asked if using waitforinputidle() in my app would allow me to detect when their app finishes loading and enters an idle state (sadly not). However they have suggested that it might be possible to monitor their app for a specific dialog caption and then close my app but this is beyond my novice understanding just now. How to go about such a process?

Simulate a traffic light with three small square text boxes on the form. Initially the bottom text box is green, the rest are dark gray. When the tab key is pressed, the middle box turns yellow and the bottom box turns dark gray. The next time the tab is pressed, the top box turns red and the middle box turns dark gray. Subsequent pressing of the tab key cycles through the three colors. Hint: First place the bottom text box on the form, then the middle, then the top. I did all this and dabbled below. Does that look at all correct...minus the timer thing...I got the timer code (which is not needed) but am not sure how to write it so the tab key does the work. This is really confusing to me, but it is a required class.

so with google analytics , it can tell you if you have direct traffic or if you traffic was referred from a website. I have no idea how it can tell that the traffic has been referred, and I want to fool it to make it look like I was refrerred from another site using the webbrowser component.

I'm planning on a very basic game created in VB.Net WinForms and a web server(shared) which will host PHP and MySQL.I think, I can create this basic game with no problems. But my headache is with the communication part In the db(MySQL db in the web server), there'll be usernames and password listed in a table. When my vb app is opened, it would ask for the username and password. The user enters his username and password. This data is compared with the data in the db. If a match is found, then the game starts and the user can play the game. At the end of game, it will ask for the confirmation to send highscores to the webserver. When confirmed by the user, the highscore will be send to the webserver, which will be then stored in the MySQL db.
The game will be a simple one just like Tic-Tac-Toe or a text based game.What all things do you recommend for the development/communication part of this game ?

please help me am in need of code for traffic light simulator, wanted to design a simulator with barriers which close a lane when it light red and opens when it lights green.These barriers should be in form of red and black bars on the entrance of any parking area.The reason to barriers is that here in Uganda traffic is controlled mostly by the police men so i wanted to improve the traffic light system with the use of barrier.

Me and a few other people are developing a piece of software that measures levels of distraction based on some user settings. The user will be able to designate certain programs, websites, etc. as "on task" and anything else will be considered "off task" by the program. The only road block we have run into is being able to grab the user's current web page in real time -- at any given second we need to be able to programatically determine what web page the user is viewing (in any browser) and determine whether it falls under "on task" or "off task". We would like to do this by creating a C# extension for Fiddler2 but are open to other suggestions as well (the software itself is programmed in VB.NET).
