VS 2010 Reading Embedded Tar.gz Files?
Mar 11, 2012
I have a tar.gz file which contains other tar.gz files. For example: file1.gz contains a.gz, b.gz, c.gx, and so on.I can read tar.gz files which have no embedded gz files. However, I need the ability to read embedded gz files. The following is a code snippet which reads .gz files which are not embedded - this works fine. how I can read embedded gz files?
For Each fi As FileInfo In di.GetFiles("*.gz")
fullPath = dirpath + "" + fi.ToString
dirInstream = New GZipStream(File.OpenRead(fullPath), CompressionMode.Decompress)
[code]....

i have added 3 .png files [done.png, failed.png, busy.png] to my project & changed them to "embedded resource" [from this wht i understand is that they will be integrated within the exe hence eliminating the dependency on the actual location it is stored]
i have 1 picturebox on my form whose image i have to change as per the output of something else
this is wht my code looks like :
If text1.text = "Done" then
picturebox1.image = my.resources.done.png
end if
[Code].....
but it gives me error during run time.. am i using the right code ? or is there an alternate method for this ?

My app has a series of parameters that is to be stored in an external files. Eventhough the "parameter" file could be edited by the end user, I really don't care that much about what the user does to them.
So my two questions are, what is the most effeicent means of reading and writing a file and in what format should the file be in? When I say effeicent I mean, what utilizes the least amount of memory during the process, is fast, and disposable.
Example: XML, Text, something else. StreamReader / StreamWriter or what ever.

I have to create a school reward system. Currently i have written code for creating user accounts and logging into the system. I have been able to write to the file i need to and i have been able to log in. However i can only log in for the first saved account. when i hover over the stored variable whilst stepping through it appears that unnecessary gaps have been added to stored information...User.stored username is the data structure type that i have stored information as...
user.storedUsername = " TestStaff "
I believe it should be like this:
user.storedUsername = "TestStaff"

I have seen a few different ways of Reading/Writing Text files. What i am trying to achieve is a simple debug file in the most efficient way possible. Currently I have....
If System.IO.File.Exists(debugpath) = True Then
Dim Debugwriter As New System.IO.StreamWriter(debugpath, True)
Debugwriter.WriteLine(debugwrite)
Debugwriter.Close()
[code]....
1. Do I have to close and reopen the file each time I want to write to it.
2. In vbscript I would simply open the the file at the start of the script and close at the end is the same possible here.

I borrowed part of this routine to download files, and it works great; except when I download text files the returns aren't written into the outputted file. I've tried different web request and techniques with no luck in solving the problem.

Dim request As WebRequest
Dim response As WebResponse

Two files need to be extracted when user clicks a button and one of those two files need to be run with a parameter when the button is clicked and last file needs to be extracted when program closes down. All 3 files need to be able to be updated in the program.

My program toggles an existing IE add-on between enabled and disabled. At the same time, it creates a shortcut to itself in the Quick Launch folder using one of two icons which reflect whether the next click is a toggle on or toggle off. I store the two icons in the same folder as the targeted executable, and everything works fine, but I would rather have these two files embedded. I know how to embed them. The problem is locating them. At the moment I use:
Dim MyShortcut As IWshRuntimeLibrary.IWshShortcut
MyShortcut = WshShell.CreateShortcut(QuickLaunchVariable & "Toggle.lnk")
MyShortcut.TargetPath = path/executable
MyShortcut.IconLocation = path/iconfile
MyShortcut.IconLocation requires a string and I don't know how to get to the location of an embedded file as a string. There is no MyShortcut.Icon which would allow me to simply refer to the embedded file.

Another question, might be the wrong place to ask it but I am having problems extracting 'Conroy.zip' from my resources using DotNetZip. If anyone could show me the code or give advice,

I am creating a Twitter desktop application but I am having some problem/url..."I don't know much about developing with MS Visual Basic in this way, but if it has access to some kind of embedded web view you could make use of that in some way theoretically. Even better would be if your application can register a URI scheme on the system. "So I am asking if there is an embedded web view available in MS Visual Basic.

I was wondering if anybody had heard of a library, preferably a .NET assembly, but Java will do as wel, that allows you to read the data in a Guitar Pro file (.gp3-gp4-gp5)I have this gigantor of a folder with about 50.000 song files, and would really love to write something that can actually archive all these files, for easier searching. And basic information like the tuning of the instruments in the song would be very useful parameters to retrieve from the file and add to the database.
I have searched the web but have yet to find anything like this, or a file definition for writing my own parser.

I'm creating a simple forms application where users can enter their details and save the information to a .ini file because I needed this for a simple game profile. I've tried to make it write "Name =" + txtname.Text but it won't work anymore. And as well as that, I don't think It will load the text back from the ini file.
Here's the code I used;

Dim sFilename As String
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
[Code] .....
