View 4 RepliesIn Visual Studio i can select the target .net framework version, which for example defaults to 3.5. Now when i build my application with this setting, i guess it wont work on computers with .net framework 3.5 not installed, right? But lets say i choose .net framework 2.0 as target .net framework. Will my application work on computers that have .net 3.0 or .net 3.5 framework installed, but not 2.0?In other words: Is the .net framwork always backward-compatible?
View 1 RepliesI am attempting to write a program in Visual Basic Express 2010 that uses .NET Framework version 3.5 instead of 4. (The computers that I plan to use this program on only have .NET 3.5 SP1, and are painfully slow, so I don't want to upgrade them to .NET 4.)I have seen in the documentation that the Express edition does not have the option to change the target framework in the "New Project" dialog. However, when I go to the Project Properties window, there is not a drop-down list for the target framework, either. Can I change the target framework version in Visual Basic Express 2010?
View 2 RepliesI created a VB Console app and it defaulted to .NET 4 but I need it to be .NET 3.5. I've been looking but all the references I find say to change it on the 'Compile' tab in properties but I don't have a compile tab or anything else that lets me change the target framework.
Note: I'm using VS2010 Ultimate
I just installed Visual Basic Express 2010. I am doing a project at the moment for college. The project is running fine on the computers at college. But when I try to run it on my home PC I get this error message.QuoteWarning1: Possible problem detected while building assembly 'StockSYS': Referenced assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess.dll' targets a different processor..I have Googled it but when I go to the advanced compiler settings, there is no option to change the target CPU, just an option to change the target framework. I know that this has something to do with trying to run it on a 64-Bit OS. I just don't know how to change the target CPU.
View 9 RepliesProblem: A 2 year old solution made in VS2010 with vb .net 2.0. We are going to convert it on 4.0. So, the question is how? On a C# solution is quite simple since there is the compile tab where you can change the target framework, but here on vb net i can't find it.
Here it is what i see on project properties[URL]..
when I go to the advanced compile options the dropdown box (and label with info) to change the target cpu missing.Do I need to change a setting, or is there an other way to change the target cpu?
View 2 RepliesSometimes when I click on a link, it opens in a new window. Can I prevent this from happening and just load the page in my current window?
View 2 RepliesI am trying to change the Target CPU for my application and have read on the net to go to Project Properties -> Compile tab then click on the Advanced Compile Options. I am using VB.net 2005 Express Edition. Is this not available in Express Edition or am i looking in the wrong place?
View 4 RepliesI build program to launch application(launch application can as local profile or can as network credentials) using Advapi32 "Create Process WithLogonW".but I got the problem, I can't capture message of standard output(Stdout) and Standard Error(stderr).could everyone help me how to capture message and the code?
View 1 RepliesI usually use standard button and do the settings like causevalidation etc if required.
i decided to use toolstrip and inserted some buttons but end up that it doesn't do the validation for control and also doesn't call leave event of textbox control.
so my question is, anyway to use regular button functionality for toolstripbutton or there is a way to add regular button on toolstrip.
I've developed an application using VB 2008 Express and there are some customers using it,of course they have framework 3.5 installed. Can I upgrade to VB 2010 but keep target of my project to framework 3.5 (there is a option on Compile tab to chose target framework version),is it a good idea or not ?
View 5 RepliesI seem to figure out why my code is not for finding mean and st dev because the code i wrote for finding the sum is working and mean = sum/N so im confused i think i might have the wrong formula/code for standard deviation tho..i just found it online..
Private Sub btnDisplayMean_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDisplayMean.Click
Dim Mean As Integer
Dim Sum As Integer
For J = 0 To MyArray.Count - 1

After un installing visual basic 2010 express Beta 2 release i installed visual basic 2010 express final release and could not find he target CPU option in the compile tab of project properties. how could i now resolve the issue of "The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine" ie by forcing the application to run as x86 application??
View 9 RepliesI started a project in VB 2008 and the target Framework was obviously not 4, like it forces in VB 2010. The issue is the computers this application is being deployed to have 3.5 as the latest .NET Framework.
View 4 RepliesI've been working on a new application and realised that I want the target framework to be 3.5 (4.0 isn't rolled out yet). So, I changed it and now when I try and debug I get the following error:
"An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.SplitContainer' to type 'System.ComponentModel.ISupportInitialize'."
I really don't want to have to delete and recreate the splitContainer....
I have built a Dll and a Windows Service in vs2010. Both are targeting the .net 3.5 framework, but when I install it on the server it installs fine, but for some reason it targets the 2.0 framework and any time the methods fire that are using linq it crashes out with a clr20r3 error system.nullreferenceexception. Not really sure why it's not targeting .net 3.5.
View 10 RepliesI am trying to add a TabPage containing a UserControl to a TabControl at runtime, because the number of TabPages to add are determined at runtime.
The UserControl (objDataInfo) is just two Textboxes, two labels and two Radiobuttons, nothing too exciting...
The TextBoxes have their Anchor properties set to Left, Up, Right so they scale with the width of the usercontrol.
The TabPages are added in the constructor of the form, which takes the number of tabpages to create (n) as an argument:
vb.net
Dim cList As List(Of objDataInfo)
Public Sub New(ByVal n As Integer)
[Code]....
So... How can I get the standard BackColor of a standard TabPage?
(I tried leaving out the usercontrol all-together, but the TabPage still has a gray background...)
I have a application which processes 1000's datas.. for each processing it needs to update gui and db and many variables in my application. So what i have planned is to use 50~90 background worker with my own algorithm of thread pool, synchronization and thread close. So here is it efficient in terms of memory and performance. just confused what to use.. backgroundworker componenet or standard thread.
View 11 RepliesI create a Windows Form Application with Framework 4 (x86) in Windows 7 x64 Ultimate using Visual Studio Ultimate 2010 x86.
How I convert my app to run with old .NET Frameworks? My app need to be compatible with more number of computers as possible without need to install the new version of framework
I have a vb form with a browser on it, when the mouse is over a link and I right-click on it, the pop-up appears containing "open, open in new tab, save target as..., copy shortcut, and so on" and for other types, appears "zoom in, show all, quality, play, loop, rewind, forward, back and so on". So is ther a way to figure out what kind is object is that, something like:
[Code]....
I get this error "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 69.69.247.18:80." when executing this code. It is caught on the line indicated with..[code]
View 2 RepliesI have a picturebox with an image in it. I want to 'select' a section of this image (like standard selection tools in other image editors) and place it in another picturebox... The piece I want to select is a square and I have the coordinates.
View 1 RepliesI am looking to create an application that uses a remote mysql database, takes a picture from a live video stream, and also interfaces with an RS232 weighing scale. I'm just looking for a one or two sentence definition on what the huge differences are between VB Express and Standard.
I am a PHP developer and I have never worked with VB before (well maybe since high school 10 years ago). I am looking to either use vb or c++ to create this, but I have limited knowledge of any programming outside of web programming.
I have created an exe file by compling on vb. However finding that not all systems like it and .net framework & isnt as compatible as you first think. I have create an application which doesnt use "imports" to reference anything. I compiled it in .net framework 2.0. It didnt work on XP machine which had .net Framework 4.0 got runtime error. Is there anyway making the compliled .exe available for all frameworks or am I going to have to create an .exe for each .net framework to encompass all versions?? Does it have to use .net framework at all depending on the application?
View 3 RepliesWhat's a good way to define what the Framework's are?Basically I'm looking for a good way to give a brief overview of what the .Net Frameworks are and why an average person should have them installed.
View 3 RepliesI have 1.0, 2.0, 3.5 and 4.0 framework versions installed but when I edit/upgrade existing .NET applications, how can I target newer frameworks? I am using VS 2005. But I also have 2008 and Beta 2010.
View 2 RepliesI know this question has been asked before, but none of the existing SO questions provide an adequate answer for my specific case.
I'm the lone developer working on a project mostly during free time. I'm approaching 100 classes so far, and I'm starting to realize that testing that many classes is becoming daunting. Especially as I go back and add in operator overloads for =, <>, CType, and Not; implement IComparable(Of T), IEquatable(Of T), IEqualityComparer(Of T); and overriding base methods like Equals and GetHashCode.
My current testing method has been to randomly scribble out some Debug.Print code for a specific class/method on a dummy form behind a single button, run the project, click the button, and make sure the Debug window has my expected value. But this is both tedious and starting to become a time waster.
What I know that I need to do is for each and every class, draft up a set of tests specific to that class to test its functionality. So I go and look at testing frameworks like NUnit, Gallio/MbUnit, etc. But I really don't see the value in them. It so far seems that I could just write a dedicated test class for each implemented class, wrapped in #If DEBUG/#End If blocks, and link those to a bunch of buttons on a large form to run my tests.
But that could take weeks at my current rate. So I ask SO for their opinion on how to approach something like this. Am I better off figuring out how to integrate one of these open source testing frameworks into my project? Or should I just write a bunch of testing classes and output their data somewhere?
I use VB Express 2010 and VS 2010, depending on which computer I'm on so I'll need to be able to do testing in both.
I have a tough situation that I don't really know how to code. I have one main list of point that contains all the points on a picture that are black.(1point=1pixel) I need to group all the black pixels that are less than 15(more or less) pixels away from each other into one Separate list. In the end I want about 5 lists.
What I said above is what I think is best to detect the centre of a shooting target. This information is just for those who think they know a better way. Each card has 5 targets on it and I need to detect the centre of each target. Ignore the sticker on the top target, in all cases the top one will look like the rest.
I'm looking on the Internet but not found anything about how to detect what the frameworks are installed. Someone I can provide that code to VB. Net? TcoUpLoad (work with Vb6 and VbNet)
