Since XmlDataDocument will be excluded from future versions of visual basic I was wondering how to replace the code below.

I have webbrowser1 that contains about 1,000 or so lines of text. I want to:
a) Check a string for various other strings and remove any row that contains that string. e.g. if it finds "http" or "www" or "dog" or "cat" (etc) in a row, remove that row.
b) Copy that cleaned data to my multiline textbox, ensuring the rows are preserved and its not just one continuous row.
I need to replace something that's going to change in the future and I don't know what that's going to be, so is that possible? I'm talking about Flash Player, current version is 11.1.102.55 and I can replace that with nothing, but if that version is changed my text replace wont work. The problem I have is trying to replace an entire word and only the first occurence of the word.
Example: Replace the first instance of "foo" with "bar" in the following string

I've been trying regular expressions with no luck. Here are the patterns I've tried compiling(these are obviously tied to variables in my program):

I also tried the built in string.replace method with a count parameter, but I have no idea how I would make that match the entire word.
I have a notepad I'm creating, but i've tried everything I could think of to replace a tab indent with spaces on keys.tab event.When I press the Tab key I want it to replace the tab indent with 4 individual spaces. Like as if I was to press the space bar 4 times, only that would be done automatically upon pressing the tab key on my keyboard.
I'm using a richtextbox control. I have a tab settings form, where I will be able to give users an option to choose how many spaces the tab key will represent. I just need to figure out how to replace the {TAB}.
so far, I have the number of spaces correct, but the last space in the series after pressing my tab key seems a bit larger than the rest of the spaces, and is not a real (normal) space character. That puts everything out of line when i'm typing on a new line. the characters don't line up vertically and when I press the space key however many times i've set the {Tab} key to represent, the tab key even though it should have the same number of spaces occupies a larger distance horizontally if that makes sense.
Somebody would know to show some function to solve my doubt?
View 12 RepliesThe file reads in parameters and two of the parameters used to be in Date Format YYYYMMDD but will now permanently be in format YYYY-MM-DD. This change, I believe, is stopping the import of the file from working. I would like to replace the new format YYYY-MM-DD back to YYYYMMDD in the code. If possible I'd also like to see some output so I know that the old format has been replaced with the new format. The code is below. I added the two rows with .replace code in green in expecting that to be enough but it is still not working.

First it might sound like an ordinary task but keep reading it isn't. I can't figure out how to find a phrase in a text file, and replace it with something else. Tried lots of things but always ending up with empty hands.
Suppose there's a text file in this order:
valueabc=6000.0000
valuettt=200.0000
valuexyz=7000.0000
I want to;
1) Find the phrase (e.g. valueabc) by scanning the whole text,
2) Replace the number that starts after "=" and ends before ".", namely "6000" in the middle with any number value i want.
I don't need the parts before "=" and after ".", only the number in the middle.
I'm working on a timekeeping application in Visual Basic 2008 and am having trouble formatting a timespan for display. Here's how I want to the information:If a positive number my Label will be: lblTimespan.txt will show as "12 Hours And 15 Minutes" This works fine.If its a negative number I want to display it as "(12 Hours And 15 Minutes)'[ in red.
