Windows Forms: LoginForm And MainForm?

Currently, I have a LoginForm that authenticates a user and it works fine. I have a MainForm, which is displayed if a valid username and password is entered. I have done this by using the following code in my LoginForm:Private Sub OK_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles

Now this does exactly what I want except I fear it's a work around and it's not the best approach. Also, note that I am using Me.Hide() to hide the LoginForm, is there a way to show the MainForm and then close the LoginForm instead of hiding it? Doesn't Me.Hide() call creates an overhead?

I have login form as start up form and i call Form1 after successful validation and in Form1, i have close button on click of Close i would like to reset username and password fields on loginform to null. If i add code in form1 below i get exception Dim fmLogin As New LogInForm

I'm creating an app, with a splashscreen, loginform (just enter a name) and a mainform.With I use my.settings. Now here comes the issue I run into.The splashscreen should check (onload) if the my.settings.user contains any info, if it does, the mainform should be shown, if not the loginform should be shown. On my app settings I have splashscreen set to the splashscreen and the first form is set to login form.

I've made an app with vb 2010, which holds a mainform. On it is a menutoolstrip with button, when I click on that button a second form is opened on a second monitor and the button is being checked (different color).
When I click the button again, it is unchecked, but the form on the second monitor is still open, while it should be closed.

I have One MainForm for my system. This MainForm is MDIContainer. From that form, i call other forms that are MDIContainers too. So, when i try to open one of this childForms from the MainForm
frmMain is GrandParent form
frmSub is Parent form
frmChild is child form
frmSub.MdiParent = Me // Me is the frmMain which is the Grandparent form
frmSub.Show()
I get this error.
Form cannot be both an MDI child and MDI parent.

Picked up a legacy VB.NET project originally written for version 1.1 of the .NET framework. I'm running Vista with .NET 3.5. I have cleared out all the original error and the project will build; it just wont run.
As far as I can tell, it is trying to run 'LoginForm' but putting breakpoints in doesn't work because the error is thrown before the breakpoints are reached, regardless of where in the file they are placed.

I have 2 forms, main Form1 and a loginform. When I start the application, first "Form1" is loaded and then with a button click, user can load "loginform" if required to enable/disable some features/controls on Form1.The sequence is like this:
1) Load main form Form1
2) click a button on Form1
3) Load the loginform.
4) enter user/pwd and click OK button
5) enable/disable "GroupBox" control on Form1 if login sucessful.
For this,I made a click event for OK button in loginform, so once user clicks the OK button, I want to call one function which is defined in Form1 as a Public, which enables/disables the "GroupBox" control on Form1. The code structure is like this:in main Form1, i created a function like this:

Public Function DoThis() ' Function to enable/disable GroupBox control

I am not able to call the DoThis() function in loginform. Please suggest me with a piece of code how to do this?? remember that Form1 is my main form which is loading first.

I have a basic three form application. It doesn't seem to close after navigating through forms. If I were to open the application, and the main form is displayed. If I press the X button, the application closes fine(Goes from processes) If I were to open the application, and then navigate from the main form to another form using me.hide & form1.show, and press the red X on Form1, the application again, closes fine.

I have the requirement to create an application that has multiple front ends developed using Windows Forms, WPF, ASP and Compact Framework Mobile Forms.I would like to be able to create a series of obejct representing the business logic and have this logic accessible from the various front ends available. My first thought was to use remoting as I'd like to be able to pass the business objects back and forth between client and server but the compact framework doesn't support remoting and also transferring a full framework business object to a compact framework business object doesn't seem possible.My next thought was to use web services but again the passing of business objects seems to be very hard to accomplish. Without doing this I would have to create individual web methods for each business operation.
Finally my next option is to use sockets and write the whole client/server logic within some classes and expose them to the UI/Business layer. My only problem with this is it is not scaleable should the number of clients increase dramatically whereas using remoting or web services I can host the solution via ASP.Net.Does anybody have an ideas on the best way forward for this or even have any input on how they would write an application that required a windows form, wpf, asp website and mobile device GUI all of which want to use the same business logic?

I would like to know if its possible to start up a second windows forms inside the parent form. Ex: A button is pressed and a new form is showed. I would like to keep that new form inside the parent form, and have it not be able to go outside the parent form.

When I add a new, empty form to my VB.NET VS9 project, the linenherits System.Windows.Forms.Formis missing.What am I doing wrong here?I thought it would be added automatically.I experienced that some thing get weird if this line is not there (Form_Load is not firing, I think).

I have a problem with scroll in a treeview in a Windows forms application (Framework version 3.5).
The strange thing about the problem is that on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 the scroll works as excepted, but in Windows Server 2003 SP2 the scrolling doesn't work. Enable/disable Visual Styles doesn't seem to make a difference on Server 2003.
Steps to reproduce the error:
1. Add a treeview to a form and add x nr of root items (and 1 sub item to each item).
2. Expand a number of nodes. The non-standard thing here is that we are changing the node integral height because we display a usercontrol with the treenode (See example of the code below).
3. When you scroll afterwards, you cannot scroll to the bottom node. The scrollbar is all the way down, but we are not seeing the last node.

I was playing a game recently and saw that they could use args in the shortcut, and I decided to try to impliment this into my application...so far, I got: (runs this sub on load)

I made a birthdaylist. You can store birthdays in it, and it will alert you on the day a person has his birthday. To do that the program has to startup when the computer starts up, and give the alert if neccesary and then close itself again. This all works, but the mainform is visible in that period.
