Store TIFF Files In Oracle?

Nov 11, 2009

I have an ASP.NET application (vb.net codebehind) that has serious performance problems because of its storage of TIFF files in one server share. There are over a million .TIF files there now! The application tracks the scanned images of property with a corresponding row in an Oracle database table. We have this idea that it might be better to store the images themselves in a new Oracle table.

The alternative solution we are thinking of is to split up the server share into multiple folders by State (an OH folder, a WV folder, a VA folder, etc.) Seems like the database option might make more sense long-term, but how do we do it? Can a TIFF be stored in a BLOB column and then extracted back into TIFF format using .NET?

Opening / Printing Tiff Files Visual Studio 2005

Dec 8, 2009

I'm trying to use my existing application to open tiff files for clients and staff in order to print or view the reports that we have scanned into our server. Unfortunately I have been unable to find a free, preferably open source library or wrapper for a library that will work in VB.NET running through Visual Studio 2005. Does anyone know of any open source/free implementations of this that I could adopt in my application?

Merge Multiple Excel Files Into One Excel File And It Works For 3 Source Files But Its Not Working If Workbook With Worksheet Count Is > 3?

Aug 18, 2011

I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.

Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data. But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

.NET 1.1 And .NET 2 Config Files Working Together

Jun 27, 2012

I have inherited a rather large project consisting of an application written in VB6 and several DLL's and ActiveX controls written in VB6, VB.NET 1.1 and VB.NET 2. I want to change one of the settings for one of the DLL's written in VB.NET 2 that is in its application.dll.config file, but it seems to be having no effect. My main VB6 application (I will call it Alpha) has a configuration file (Alpha.exe.cnfig) which contains settings used by my VB.NET 1.1 DLL (which I will call Bravo). After calling Bravo, Alpha calls Charlie (my VB.NET 2 DLL). However, even though I have changed the application settings in Charlie.dll.config in the subdirectory where the DLL lives, it has no effect. I have tried putting Charlie's settings in Alpha's config file but this causes Bravo to fail with an automation error (which I think is because the format of the config files changed from .NET 1.1 and .NET 2).[code]If I try putting the applicationSettings section under directly beneath the appSettings section (i.e. as another child element of the configuration element) in Alpha.exe.config then Bravo.dll fails.

Working With Image Files?

I need to keep the original Ratio of the Width to Height of an image file within a picturebox, basically I will have to adjuest either the width or the Hidth of it. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I do this? I was thinking I would have to get the Width and Height attributes of the Picture file with an integer and use a little bit of math to determine the approprate size of the picturebox object.

VS 2008 - Rename Files While Working With Them

Sep 27, 2009

I am trying to change the file names of all the files in a directory based on content of the file. So I am opening the file, reading the content, storing the new file name in a variable and then trying to change the name of the file. This is not working because when I start this loop I am opening the file and viewing it so it won't allow me to change while the file is in use. Should I store the old and new file names in an array and do the renames after the For Next Loop is complete?

VS 2010 Working With Excel Files?

Sep 14, 2011

I am working with a project where i am opening up excel worksheets, sending data to them and then printing the worksheet. I have been working specifically with Office 2010 and have everything working exactly how i want it to work. Recently i have been asked to make the same type of thing work for users using older versions of office.

So as a test i took one of the worksheets opened it in 2010 and saved it as a 2003 document. I went into the code switched the .xlsx over to .xls and gave it a shot. It appears that the code opens the correct file. Sends all of the data out to the worksheet and then the program bugs out.

Working With Text Files And Listview?

Feb 20, 2009

I want to be able to grab a specific file from a specified directory, read the lines and display them in a text box. What I want to do, is search for multiple text files in a specified directory, display each name in a Listview and, as I click on them, their info is displayed in the text box below.

what I have so far:

Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

[Code]....

Also, when I closed the program and re opened it, it duplicated all of the text files in the list, but did not duplicate them in the directory. Not that I want it to, it just seems odd.

Locating External Files Doesn't Working

May 3, 2009

I'm very new to VB, so I was in the very first tutorial, it has me play a sound file. So I put that in, ran it, and it came back with an error saying "system cannot find this file." I guess I'm not terribly surprised, since the file they gave has no C: or anything like that. What I want to do now is play my very own sound file, but I don't want to go through the whole C:Documents and Settings... thing, so is there a way I can put my own sound file in the project directory and say something like %ProjectDir%/sounds/mysound.wav?

VS 2010 Working With Files Already Open By Another Users?

Sep 29, 2011

I created a program that processes files on a nightly bases for the company I work for. These files are used on a daily basis and very often a file is left open by a user and it causes my program to error out and not finish running. My program needs delete access to these files.

I need 1 of 2 solutions.

1. I need somehow add a check to see if a file is in use and if it is just skip it.

2. I need to make my program automatically force close the files on the users. (note that these are shared by one computer, I can put the program on the computer that the files reside so that it has access to close them out.)

how to add a check for if a file is in use or not?

VS 2008 : Working With Files With Illegal Characters In File Name?

Jul 3, 2009

save/create a file with a character such as ; or or * in the name then windows will tell you that you cant do that. However, this is obviously possible via some programming languages (im assuming VB.NET probably throws an exception if you try this). So here is my situation - my program works with some files that are produced by a third party program and these files get named whatever the subject of the email that each file relates to was. So if one of these emails had a subject of "Hello ;" then the file would be saved as that name by this third party program. The problem is when my program comes to rename this file or move it then it just throws an exception basically saying that the file doesnt exist, however it works perfectly fine with files that dont have these illegal characters in so it is definitely that thats the problem.

Convert PDF To TIFF In-memory

Jun 21, 2012

I can use to convert several thousand PDFs to TIFFs. Free would be great but willing to pay if the cost is within reason. One requirement that many of the tools I have researched seem to miss is that I need to be able to do this in memory.I am working with PDFs that are stored as binary in a SQL database so through SSIS, I would like to pull that binary, convert to TIFF, then send it off to a webservice I will be working with via stream. Unfortunately, it seems that most utilities I have looked into expect the pdf to be on the file system and I would definitely like to avoid writing a temp file to disk to do this conversion. For me that ruled out GhostScript and pretty much anything that's based on it.Also, the PDFs I am working with are rather old (v1.3) so the assembly should be rather forgiving/flexible (PDFFocus errors out on all my PDFs but works fine with newer ones).Based on posts from StackOverflow, it seems like Atalasoft or PDF4NET might work but both are a little too pricey for me so I am looking for some additional suggestions. Given that this process will be embedded in a script task in SSIS 2008, this will have to be .NET.

Converting PDF To Multipage Tiff

Mar 22, 2011

I have created a simple database programme in VB2010 Express. There is one table called stock_main_table and one 'child' table called Stock_issue_table. The main part essentailly holds the part number and the issue makes a record of each time that part is used. Its a one to many type arrangement. In the main table I have a PRI key called ID_Number and in the child I have a field called 'control'. The control has a relationship with the PRI key in the main table. So each time you create a new line in the child datagrid you retain the same number for that record. All standard simple stuff.

When I run the programme the main table comes up OK and the datagrid for the child comes up OK. If I add a record, I can add plenty of children to it no problem. The records all save OK. You can amend a record as well without an issue. The trouble comes as soon as you DELETE a record and then hit save. The DELETE seems to work and the records (parent and child) all disappear, but as soon as you try to save you get a The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint error. I have tried and tried to fix this but can't.This is the full text of the exception, if anyone needs anything else then please just ask and I will post it. There is no code with this other than what is created when the dataset is dragged onto the form
