I am making kind of like a login form, except a little more complicated. Right now I have an SQL Database that stores the login information. My question is, how do I add stuff to the existing tables? Like How would I have it so an admin can type in a new login and a new password, and have it so the form stores it in one of my tables in the database?
View 11 RepliesI seem to have a major problem. when I add a typed dataset to my project and go back to my sql server and click on the databse I use it doesn't open. the tables and stuff just vanish. using the wizard, it creates this connectionstring:

It connects fine. but after I try opening it in sql server i get an error. It doesnt let me restore or anything. i tried restarting my pc incase the db was locked but it is still gone. now my app cant connect. Just for clarity, is user instance supposed to be set to true. and what is the purpose of it. also when the wizard asks to make a copy of the file that will be copied accross each time I run my project I select No.

View 4 RepliesI am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?

View 3 RepliesWe are presently developing an application, let's call it APP1, which uses a SQL Database which have about 800 stored procedures, 600 tables, etc. APP1 was originally created in order to replace another application, APP0, from which we do not have source code but only SQL tables, Stored Procedures, views, etc. Previous programers of APP1 used some DB objects from this same database and added some other objects specific to APP1 because it becomes bigger than APP0. And we do not need APP0 anymore as APP1 does all what we want, and more.
So, now, we are thinking about a way to find out which objects are used by APP1 in order to remove objects which are ONLY used by APP0.What is the best approach to discover all objects used by APP1 without having to open every single class and form?
Once we will have a complete list of these objects, it will be easy to use a program we bought which detects all dependencies for all SQL Objects specified directly from SQL and remove objects which do not return from any dependencies. Any ideas of how I could get this list without having to go through all our program that have many, many, many classes and forms?
Note : I know, in a perfect world, all calls to PSs and tables should be in a DAL but in the case of the application we're presently working on ... this is not our case! Yippy! (sarcastic yippy) ;)
Note 2 : This application is not using any ORM. So all queries are directly using SqlCommand. So any call to any DB objects are in string format.

I've been looking for some programming languages, and I've read about the basics of Python and C++, but I'm more interested in Visual Basic But! Everywhere I look, I only find tutorials about how to use MS's Visual Basic Express and stuff, not how to code, not tutorials about the code syntax, how to declare variables and these essential things.Does anyone here has a good tip about learning the basics of VB? And not how to use VB Express/Full edition I can insert a new button but I have no idea on how to make it work, what's the point of it?
EDIT: Oh and another thing.I was playing around VB, creating a simple user interface with buttons, and I've noticed that the code doesn't change when I update the button's or other objects' Name property in the Designer window... shouldn't the code update itself with the new objects names?

View 8 RepliesI am trying to polish up a program a program that I have converted from a Windows Form in to an ASP.NET Web Application. I have several questions:
1.) I have a drop down box where users can select their variables, but users can also enter their variables manually into various text fields. What I want is for the drop down box to show a string like "Choose Variables" when ever the user enters their variables manually. I want this to happen without having to reload the page.
2.) In the Windows Form version of this application I had a RichTextBox that populated with data (line by line) after a calculation was made. I used "AppendText" in my Windows Form, but that is not available in ASP.NET, and neither is the RichTextBox. I tried to use just a text box but that isn't working right.

My understanding is that presence in the finalizer queue will prevent any object, or objects strongly referenced thereby, from being collected, but it will not (of course) protect them from finalization. In the normal course of events, once an object is finalized it will be removed from the queue and any objects it references will no longer be protected from collection on the next GC pass. By the time a finalizer is called, the finalizers may have been called for any combination of objects referred to by the object; one cannot rely upon finalizers being called in any particular sequence, but the object references one holds should still be valid.

So Im making a program with 2 different data tables where different columns from those tables are used in different tabs in the same form. This all works good and well so far, but I have one issue which just drives me mad, and a couple minor ones.
1. I have an ID column in each data table marked as Primary Key, Unique and Identity. Problem is that even if I choose to hide this column it just randomly decides if it actually is visible or not. Most often its visible. I dont get it, doesnt this function work? Do I use it wrong? Im not using any code for this, just right click on the data grid, press Edit Columns... And change the Visible to False. It works for all other columns all the time as far as I can tell, but for my ID column its just random.
2. Im wondering if its possible to align the text in some of the columns of my data table to the right, note I only want some of them, not all of them.
3. Is it possible to do maths with the values from the columns in a table on the same row? Like for example having column 3 = column1 + column2?

I want to extract the '3' and the '23-1' and from the strings. I can rely on the first set being inside ( ) as the strings I need. The strings will be numeric characters plus the dash (anything between ( ) would be preferable.) What RegEx pattern would I use?
