Apr 9, 2011Let's say 10 desktop shortcuts, all with different names/icons, point to and can start the same exe application from the same directory. Is there any means for the application to know the distinct name of the shortcut that was doubled_clicked. Also is there any means for a running application to know if it was started by command line, by a double_click on the exe, by a double_click on a shortcut that points to it, or by another process' call?

Jul 7, 2010Question: I created an ASP.NET web application. Now it originally was meant for deployment on a webserver.That is working, so, so far so good.My question now is: Is it possible to deploy it as a desktop-application, too? That is to say the installer installs some kind of server, plus the web application, configures the server to run this application on a localhost URL, and then creates a link in the start menu/desktop, where it opens that url (website, the application) on localhost in a web browser?
I think it should be possible, though the server wouldn't be IIS, because this is a windows component which can't be separately installed. Is there anything like this already out there The nonplusultra would be that it only starts the server when you click on the shortcut.

Mar 9, 2011I have an application that is written in VB.NET, using the System.Windows.Forms.Form as the front-end GUI. It runs perfectly on my Windows machine however recently there is a business requirement to convert this application to run as a web application so that people could view them in their blackberries when they go to the URL. Is there any quick way to perform such a conversion or I will have to translate the code line-by-line for such cases?

Jun 22, 2009the system is going to have two front-ends - one web application and one desktop application.The desktop application is going to be coded using VB.NET, and the web application in PHP. There's really no reason why the desktop application can't be replaced by a web application as well - except that one of the programmers seem to really want to code it in VB...However none of us have experience working with either of these pairs .
P.S. hosting service will be gotten from some provider and not be on the client's own server.

Aug 13, 2009I wrote a small app we use on our computer to keep them running optimally and do some utility things (delete temp files, defrag drives, clean registry, backup my docs to the server, etc). One of the options I ahve in there is "Reset Windows to Defaults" and the objective was to setup windows how we normally would set them up before we give them to our users. So if a user messes with all his/her settings we can click this button and reset it all back. So far it resets IE settings, changes Window Explorer views, puts all the default icons on the desktop and turns off desktop cleanup, etc. Well one of the last things I want to do is change to the default Windows XP theme and apply it. After a lot of searching the internet I found this:

It does reset colors and stuff back to the theme. The problem is if a user has "Windows Classic" set and this is run it does apply the theme.....mostly. Things like dialog boxes stay in classic while the menu structure and desktop go the XP style. If you go into display properties it still shows "Windows Classic" but under Appearance it shows "Windows XP" which leads me to believe even though this function is for themes its actually just applying the appearance and not actually setting the theme.
