Ampersand In The "text" Property Is Not Showing The Underscore During Runtime
Feb 6, 2010
I have a form with 2 radio buttons where the "checked" property is false, yet when the form loads the first radio button is selected. I tried .refresh and no positive results... Grrr! Also, the ampersand in the "text" property is not showing the underscore during runtime. This is with the entire project.

I was trying to access the following property using Reflection because I don't have the original source code (suppose this was decompiled through Reflector). It seems that something is special about it being "private virtual" or maybe because it has "_" in the beginning of the property. I can access all the other private properties no problem except this one. Just can't figure out what I am doing wrong:
private virtual String _MyProperty
{
get

start with I was given a program by a friend that was created in Excel 2003 with the help of Visual Basic Editor. He said he used Visual Basic 2003, which he is not 100% sure about. Anyways he used CurLine in the program and when I try to open it in Excel 2007 and then open the Visual Basic Editor and run the program I get the following error:Run-time error '-2147418113 (8000ffff)':Could not get the CurLine property. Unexpected call to method or property access.

I'm developing a windows application using vb.net (VS 2005 and windows XP) I've set images (transparent png files) to buttons.I do it importing images into the resources of the project I could do it for most of the buttons of this project, but today I noticed new images I set, not showing in run time. In the development form I can see all images on buttons, but when I run the application, buttons with new images are missing. This happens to the new images I import and set as button images. I tried few times new images I set are not showing.

I have a very simple setup, single mycontrol.ascx with assoicated mycontrol.ascx.designer.vb and mycontrol.ascx.vb file.
mycontrol.ascx embeds a single reference to a custom control: "MyMenu":
<mM:myMenu id="myMenu1" runat="server" />
This has created a protected reference in the mycontrol.ascx.designer.vb file:
Protected WithEvents myMenu1 As Global.CustomControls.MyMenu
Now, when I breakpoint the Page_Load() event of mycontrol.ascx, and inspect the members returned from the type via:
Me.GetType().GetMembers()
I cannot any reference to myMenu1. If I look at the control with intellisence, the property is accessible:
Me.myMenu1
what I'm missing and what I need to do to access designer created properties at runtime through reflection?

Here's a question the popped in my mind: Is it possible to show only property(ies) based on what the user has passed parameter in the contructor? To make this question more clear, I'll illustrate a simple class with some properties.

I have a custom class (Class1) with a bunch of properties. One of the properties of this class is another custom class (Class2) with its own properties.I have a property grid with the selected object set to Class 1. I can see Class 2 as a property, but i would like to expand Class 2 to show its properties in the same property grid.
Im basically trying to do the exact same thing as the Font Class on a form. If you look at the properties of a form in the designer, you can see the font property. You can then expand that to show the properties of the font class.

In my program I have a linklabel that is used for local directories and it gets the directory from an XML file, but whenever there is an ampersand in a directory name I get errors. I've tried adding "ToString", having two ampersands (&&), and puting quotes around the directory in the XML file, but it doesn't work. Is there any way for it to treat the ampersand as a regular character? Here's the code that pertains to the directory path
'this part loads the xml file and sets the inner text to the proper variable
'let's pretend the directory in the XML file is "C:\foo & bar\"
doc.Load(Application.StartupPath & "\Anime\" & title)

I've tried:
Const amper As String = "" & ""
ToolStripButton1.Text = "Save " & amper & " Close"
and also replacing the "amper" with Char(38), but it doesn't show up. This is the full
Private Sub Dialog1_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'Save and close button text
Const amper As String = "" & ""
ToolStripButton1.Text = "Save " & amper & " Close"
End Sub
Am I using both methods wrong?

I am relatively new to programming and have managed so far with google and a lot of patience! I am having a problem naming timer contols at runtime. This is what I am trying to achieve.
1. I connect to my dataset and to my first record
2. I create a loop for the recordset
3. I create various objects on a form and name them using the info in the dataset
I also need to create timers and name them using the first field of my dataset. It needs to be dynamic as its database driven. There could be as many as 100 timers at any one point.

A VB5 program I wrote years ago stopped working and is now giving me this error:
Run-time error '380':Invalid property value
I cannot figure out what has changed, since I run that program almost daily. It was working fine, then stopped (without any changes to the program). I suspect I may have uninstalled something it uses, but cannot figure out what.When I open the VB5 IDE, I get an error saying:
'c:program filesdevstudiovbComct232.ocx' could not be loaded--Continue Loading Project?
If I say no, it does not load and I cannot see the source code.If I say yes, it does load and I can see the source code but I get weird compiler errors.

I have a data table being returned that populates a repeater. One of the fields has the & character in the data and displays perfectly within the asp:literal on the screen. The source shows the & character un-encoded.My question is this: Does it NEED to be encoded? A co-worker is insisting that it must be encoded in order to be "HTML compliant". But it works perfectly for display purposes. Is this REALLY required for any type of compliance that I should even be worrying about?

What's the trailing ampersand on VB hexadecimal numbers for? I've read it forces conversion to an Int32 on the chance VB wants to try and store as an Int16. That makes sense to me. But the part I didn't get from the blurb was to always use the trailing ampersand for bitmasks, flags, enums, etc. Apparantly, it has something to do with overriding VB's fetish for using signed numbers for things internally, which can lead to weird results in comparisons.
So to get easy points, what are the rules for VB.Net hexadecimal numbers, with and without the trailing ampersand? Please include the specific usage in the case of bitmasks/flags and such, and how one would also use it to force signed vs. unsigned.
