Aug 21, 2009I had a question regarding the split function used in Visual Basic. As of now I have written a function that brings in a string value. The string value returned will probably look like this "List1;List2; Field1,Field2". My goal is to use the split function for this string to put all the lists in one array and to put the fields in another array.
The problem is between where List2 and Field1 are. I don't want Field1 to be placed in the list array. I'm thinking there might be a way to do this by parsing but I'm not sure. Here is my current code below.

Dec 6, 2010I am working on a project and I need to read information from a streamreader and put into an array and then use the split function to split the the lines read by the commas.
Example: Texas, USA, 123
And I need to split the three into separate arrays and then swap Texas and USA to make it USA, Texas, 123. I am using VB.net language and line.split(",") is not working.

Jun 1, 2012I'm trying to make a function in VB.net that will loop through an algorithm. I've split the algorithm into an array using the Split command, so I have an array with the values. Can't Split A Line By A Newline In Silverlight
Jan 17, 2009I cant split a line by a newline in silverlight vb.net I am reading in numbers from a file into a string as this is the quickest way. Then I parse the data in numbers by splitting the string by newline then by comma. I cant split by newline which again is the sticking point as nothing happens with the newline split.

Comma Delimited Line Split?
Jan 9, 2011I have spent a long time debugging an application that occasionally goes awry, it ends up that the problem is that the comma delimited text files that I am looping through occasionally inserts a comma within one of the fields.
At any rate, I was loading the text file into Excel to try and spot the error which was of no help, somehow Excel parsed out the field correctly and didn't use that extra comma as a delimiter. Is there any way I can get my application to do the same?
And example field value is: "7-8-ALL (1,2&3)", but of course my split code turns this into two separate array values.

Split A Text File So That Each Line Does Not Exceed 50 Characters?
May 23, 2012I am reading a text file with mostly alpha characters. the content is not really relevant but the size of each line is very important. The process I will feed this text to will require each line be no more than 50 characters. So I will pre-process the text and add line feeds to make sure that happens.I tried several VB.NET regex like ^.*$ but that doesn't really break up the lines by 50 characters. I would take the result and iterate through each match and then cut it up and write it to an object in memory. Can this be done with a single regex pass?Otherwise I will use a streamreader and on each line check the length and if <=50 write it out with a streamwriter. if >50 cut it up in sections of 50 and then use streamwriter.
A brief example of my text:
119 SMITH KATY AAAA F ZZZ X NB SX ET
MILES,200/LM450

May 9, 2010In VB6 I load a recordset containg all of the records (6 fields per record)in a table into an XArray and then manipulate the records in the array and then write them back to the original table. The array issorted by the first field (1 to maybe 8000 or more) I need to find records in the array by an ID field and then move them (because of some external criteria that happens many times) from say number 400 to number 375. Then all of the other records between 375 and 399 were renumbered up 1 to fill the gaps left by the move.
The XArray worked well as it could find and also move to a next record easily to facilitate the revisions to each record quickly. Everything is done in VB6 in code and nothing visual needs to be shown to the user until say 2000 of these external changes are complete. What is the best, most efficient way to do this in the .Net framework in VB2010. Datasets, Dataviews. tableadapters, arrays. enums ?

Passing Arrays Through Fortran Dll From App Turning To Single Element Arrays?
Feb 2, 2010I have a VB.net console app and I am opening a function in a dll written in fortran. I am passing 3 arrays through the function by reference. When they come back out the otherside they ahve all tunred to arrays of only one element And that element is 0.I read on the internet somewhere that when doing this kind of thing it is a good idea to only pass the first element of the array into the function.I tried changing my function declaration to accepting single elements rather than single dimensional arrays, and now the arrays are the same length before and after the function call, but they don't seem to be changing at all, so i'm not sure that this is working

Create A Split Container With A Three Way Split?
Mar 1, 2012I would like to create a split container with a three way split. The first split is a vertical split. The second is creating a horizontal split within panel2 of the first split container. panel1 will hold a treeview control the other two panels will hold listview controls
I think this question has been asked already in a couple different ways and I've reviewed those posts and I've tried to do what was suggested but it doesn't seem to work for me. I've tried to place a second split container inside panel2 of the first split containter. This gave me what appeared to be a three way vertical split.
