Asp.net - Checking What Entity Is Being Updated On SavingChanges

I have a handler that causes a sub context_SaviningChanges to be executed when an update is made to one of the entity objects like so:
AddHandler Me.SavingChanges, AddressOf context_SavingChanges
I want to have specific code executed for each entity that is being updated. So, if it is a "phone" entity I want to trigger one piece of code but if it is a "buildings" entity I want to trigger another piece of code. In pseudo code I want to do something like this:
For Each entry as ObjectStateEntry in DirectCast(sender, ObjectContext).ObjectStateManager.GetObjectStateEntries(EntityState.Modified)
If entry.entity("phone") Then

I have a misunderstanding somewhere with the Entity Framework. This code is from my unit testing:
Public Sub UpdateRosterLinkTest()
Dim target As PlayerAdmin = New PlayerAdmin()
target.PlayerAdminManager = playerAdminTestManager
target.Team = playerAdminTestManager.GetAirForceMensBB()

When I run this code, I can see the changes saved to the SQL Server this pulls from (RosterLink = Roster Link, like I set in the unit test).However, my unit test is failing, because team.RosterLink is still Nothing. The function GetAirForceMensBB() returns the Team with TeamId = 12434:

Return (From team In Container.Teams Where team.TeamId = 12434).SingleOrDefault
End Function
I'm sure I'm using the entity framework incorrectly and it probably has something to do with the fact that I am calling the PlayerAdminTestManager in different places, but I don't understand why. Although, I set the PlayerAdminManager to be the PlayerAdminTestManager. PlayerAdminTestManager extends PlayerAdminManager, fyi.Why is team.RosterLink not showing the update from UpdateRosterLink?
EDIT:Container is my ObjectContext. This is how I access the information stored in the database.Container.Teams represents my Teams table.

I just started fooling around with background workers.

I can see how this runs regardless of what I'm doing in the main form - modal dialog boxes - whatever.
Now what I really want to do is have this background worker check to see if the DB has changed since we last created some classes that hold the data. I basically want to set a property in the CLASS that indicates the need to get fresh data.I discovered all the problems with cross-threading calls to UI objects - so I used the PROGRESSCHANGED event. just set a property in a data class created by the UI from the background worker?

Im tring to implement some generic logging in the entityframework 4.0 using theSavingChanges event in the entity contextI want to record details about any create/ update and deleted records including the id of the record being changed (which is always an int identity field). During the update and delete processes I can get the id for the record using

I want to update an entity without loading the entity from the database first. I've accomplished this but only by knowing all of the entities properties and then using the "attachto" method. My issues is i don't want my app to need to remember all of the properties. Example:

Entity Splitting: one class, two or more tables.Here is how it is done in C#, but I need to get it working in vb.net.One more thing: the class name and table columns do not match, so I have to be able to map that out, too.I have to get this to work this way because the place I'm working at right now is a vb.net only shop and the database schema is fubar, but they have so much (millions) of lines of code done directly against the database in both asp classic, vb.net, AND asp.net webforms that changing the schema right now is not realistically possible.

I am trying to jump from ASP Classic to asp.net. I have followed tutorials to get Entity Framework and LINQ to connect to my test database, but I am having difficulties figuring out ExecuteQuery(). I believe the problem is that I need an "entity class" for my database, but I can't figure out how to do it. Here is my simple code:

From the microsoft example site, they use an entity class called Customers, but I don't understand what that means.

I am trying to create a generic typed class, but am running into a problem. Here is my basic class definition:

I am trying to add instances of this class to a queue
private Queue<QueueObject<Entity>> _queue;
this._queue.Enqueue(new QueueObject<MyEntity> {Query = MyContext.GetMyEntitiesQuery(), LoadingMessage = "Loading some stuff"});
This doesn't work. I get an error saying that QueueObject cannont be converted to QueueObject. I don't understand because MyEntity inherits from Entity.

I load a DataGridView (VB.Net, VS2005) using the code below. The save logic works fine for manual edits oh the cells.However, I run some code that updates a Status column in every row then I call the same Save logic. All rows execpt the first row are updated! I am updating the Datasource (dvCerts)Ah.... I just tried changing the CurrentCell to 1,0 instead of 0,0 and now the data saves OK.

I'm trying to write my first application which connects to an Access db. It took me hours to understand this, but I figured out that, if during the creation of the connection I chose to copy the mdb file in my project directory (VB asks this), I get that the database is not updated. Everything works, except the save button which saves new rows in the db. If I answer no, and the original mdb file is used, the database is correctly updated as expected. Is there a reason for this? Why is this happening? Shouldn't the database bu updated anyway?

i'm having a gridview which is binded to a dataview, OnPageLoad i'm populating gridview records. and i have a textbox and a button, So now i want to add more Records to GridView but this records should not be get added into DB, they just added to the page and of course the default records which are coming from db stay.

Basically at first Data From DB comes to page then after that Textbox data should get appended to the Gridview but Db should not get updated. i tried to do it by keeping DataView in ViewState or Session variable but later i came to know am going in a wrong way and that this won't work since Dataview can't be Serialized. i just need an idea or right path to do this, is this possible what am doing? [my alternative option ]: create a temp db table and save it... but i don't want to use this option..

In my inventory mobile application , i use RDA.using the mobile device ,i update only the Barcode of a particular Item which is in the Item Master(.sdf file). then I push the tables to the SQL Server.there is a web application handles all the other functionality , including Item Master Changes.for and eg.
(1) I pull the Item master to the Mobile Device.
(2)change the Item Name from the Web application.(NOT FROM DEVICE)
(3)Update Bar code from the Device
(4)push table from mobile Device to SQL Server.
In this situation Old Item Name is replaced.My need is only to update the Barcode.

Ive never done a database before and i found this in one of my books... I think it should work. The part of the program that is in bold is the issue i get an error that says "Update unable to find TableMapping['Table'] or DataTable 'Table'." I am using a table adapter and the update code as below in a Try/Catch block as shown on the MSDN site.

This all works fine but I should like to return to the user a MsgBox which displays the count of new records added and/or existing records amended.I know I could count the records in the underlying table before and after the update, the difference being the count of new records. How can I count amended existing records ?

I am using the project management database created by Microsoft to track our projects. I would like it to notify (send an email) out to people once they are added to a project. And then send another one out when their due date is a couple days out as a reminder. Can someone help me with this. I am not a guru at programming and am just starting to get in to it. I would love to get this task done and then I think this database is complete. ( I am guessing I need to use the DoCmd.SendObject, but from there I am lost and what needs to go before it.)

Using VB in Visual Studio 2005, I buit a lttle bit of code to create/manipulate an Excel spread sheet. At time of creation no problem no errors or warnings. Program ran fine. That was a couple weeks ago, I open the project now and I get a warning :"Warnin There are updated custom wrappers available for the following referenced components: Excel ,VBIDEI haven't changed anything. One other thread to this said remove references to Excel and readd, I tried that, no luck. I have some text boxes in my form that takes data and saves the data to the database. There is a combo box on the form that loads data from a specific field of a database.
When I enter and save the new data (using the textboxes), the combobox doesn't show the newly entered data. I tried to refresh the combobox using code like combobox.refresh, me.refresh etc....to refresh the form but nothing is working.
The combobox only display the new data when I close the form and reload the form again. Anyway, the data loading in the combobox is done using datasource, displaymember, valuemember in the properties So, how can I make the combobox show the updated record (field)?
