Asp.net - Convert Internal Web Application To Public Web Application
Aug 16, 2011
I have been tasked with setting up an internal web application to become public facing. The web site was written in ASP.Net and I am just looking for some advice about how I should go about this procedure. Apart from hosting the site on a public facing server I don't know what else I would need to take into consideration.

I am currently using vb2008 express, I want to have a database inside the finished application. Not one that connects to an external database or any outside connections but one so all the data is readable, writable, deletable from within the application itself.

I am trying to store an enum in my application settings. This enum is defined within my main assembly in the same namespace. When I try to find the type under the application settings, it seems like I can't find any types within my namespace. I can see all the types of the assemblies I reference though.

I have an application that is written in VB.NET, using the System.Windows.Forms.Form as the front-end GUI. It runs perfectly on my Windows machine however recently there is a business requirement to convert this application to run as a web application so that people could view them in their blackberries when they go to the URL. Is there any quick way to perform such a conversion or I will have to translate the code line-by-line for such cases?

I am working on a realtime application where the data is addded to a List(of T) all the time. MB per minute
Elements older than X minutes shall be removed from the beginning of the list to free memory.
As far as i can understand will there be an internal (slow) redim when i add each element after i have reach the number defined with the Capasity metod. (I set that quite big from the start, but the data speed is unpredictable so it can be exceed)
What happens each time i remove and element from the beginning of the list , seems like it takes a lot of time, ? new redim ?
What is the most CPU fficient way of removing 1 or many elements from the beginning of such a list?

I have a WPF VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2008. For some reason, Visual Studio thinks that it needs to add anImports MS.Internal.Xaml.Builtinsto every auto-generated XAML partial class (= the nameOfXamlFile.g.vb files), resulting in the following warning:warning BC40056: Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'MS.Internal.Xaml.Builtins' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. Make sure the imported element name doesn't use any aliases.I can remove the Imports line, but, since this is an auto-generated file, it reappears every time that the project is rebuilt.

I have a query that brings back a result that I want to be able to use on all forms in my project. Is there a way to store this until the application is terminated?
For example,
I'd like to store the result of this:
Dim ssSQL As String = "SELECT ClaimNo, Custodian, Activity, Code, DateStamp FROM [Activities] WHERE "
ssSQL &= "[ClaimNo] Like ('" & txtClaimNum.Text & "')"

I have a query setup on the start form in my project - it looks for a user level (1 or 2 right now) I want to display/hide items on the form based on whether or not the user's permission (derived from this query) is a 1 or 2.
My question is, can i create a public variable out of this query to use on any form until the application is quit?
The query will be formatted something like this:
Dim
ssSQL As String = "SELECT UserLevel FROM [Employees] WHERE "
ssSQL &=

I am very keen to build a simple application to convert AVI to jpg in order to learm a little about video processing. I know free applications that do this already exist. But, I'd still like to develop an application to help me learn more about avi's and to hone my programming skills a bit with a real project.I'm familiar with VB, so that's not a problem. I just don't know how to process an avi file nor how I would programmatically extract the frames from that file.Where should I start? What is required to extract frames out of the avi to individual jpgs?
