I am trying to use an Asynchronous HTTPListener to create a simple web server in VB .Net (Not ASP) This will be run as a desktop application. My only goal is to be able to request Server Variables from the client. Is there any way to do this from within a HTTPListenerWebServer? I am using the code from the MSDN VB .Net Samples:

When I am writing a sub or function that does some calculations etc. I often need a loop or a integer variable to count.
An example:
''' <summary>
''' Compare elements with the new data and perform all necessary actions.
''' </summary>
[Code]....
As you can see, variables like timespan, nullCount and seconds are declared within this sub.
My question is, is it better to declare these in the class? I can imagine that would boost performance.

if this is a dumb question. I don't ever have to write anything in VB.NET.But I am passing variables named "name" to a function and sometimes it may be 1 name or 2 names, etc. I want to check in the function if its only 1 name don't add a comma, if it's 2 names add a comma. Is there a way to get how many "names" there are?
EDIT: Added my ode to make my question a little more clear. sorry for not doing it before.
My Code:Public Function GenerateCSV(byval str as string, byval str1 as string, byval str2 as string, byval GrpName as string)

I have 3 variables. Lets call it "a", "b" and "c". These 3 variables can "independently" have 3 different values. Lets say: "1", "6" and "10". when you think of them as combination; there are (3^3) 27 combinations. I am told that it can be done through the recursive functions. However i am not a good developer to handle with that. Would u please help me?
- 3 variables and 3 different values are simplified. In fact; the numbers of variables and different values can vary.
- i know only the language, visual basic in .net; please don't answer in other coding languages.
additional note: i am going to put the these combinations in the string format into a collection.. for example "1;1;1", "1;6;1", "1;6;10".. and so on..

I have tested the variables in the Functions and the are correct.

I was having problems inserting a string into the following tag : <tr id="rowBulkOptions" style='<%# sBulkOptionsRowStyle %>'> Don't ask why I'm using tables sBulkOptionsRowStyle is a Public string in the aspx.vb file. Seemingly the only way I can get this to render is to put Page.DataBind() in the Page_Load, Page_PreRender etc.. However this causes me problems because Page.DataBind() binds all controls on the page. I could use <%= BUT another part of the code inserts controls into the page and apparently you can't use <%= and insert controls.Is there a way I can just say 'look, put sBulkOptionsRowStyle into the page

I have a website that was written in VBSCRIPT that I am moving over to VB.NET. Until I have time to get to rewriting some pages/applications,I would like to update some of the code so they work a bit better.I am trying to grab a server variable on the VBSCRIPT page that contains our username from the enterprise login.I have 2 test pages here, one with language="VB" at the top and the other language="VBSCRIPT".
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head runat="server">
<title>Server Variables</title>[code].....
The VBSCRIPT page will list variables with no data when they have data on the VB page and in ALL_HTTP. Is there any way I can get VBSCRIPT to gather the correct info for all the server variables?
EDIT: These are the variables that vary between VB and VBS AUTH_USER, REMOTE_USER - logged in user on VBS, iis_anon on VB REMOTE_PORT - not listed in VBS
The following are listed in VBS, but have no data
HTTP_SERVER_PROTOCOL
HTTP_SM_TRANSACTIONID[code].....
Also there is a custom on I wish to get that is used for our enterprise authentication.

For my application, I have a page that redirects to another page (within the same application) via Server.Transfer. I need to do this because the original page has an object that I need to access by using the Page.PreviousPage property.
Once my "destination" page has been fully loaded, a local deep clone that I made of the source page's object is suddenly released from memory once I perform a postback? Is this by design--something to do with the Server.Transfer?
Page1.aspx:
Public Structure myCustomObject
Implements ICloneable
Dim someField as String = "default value" ' Default value
[code]....
At this point, EVERYTHING works as it should. Stuff got cloned over correctly and all is well.(Let's say this is on a button click event) Debug.Write(newObj.someField) ' Output: "default value"<- This is NOT "changed value from source page" for some reason when it was working literally a few lines ago! My guess is that the Server.Transfer stops any association with the source page after the new page loads.

I am creating an ASP.Net page with VB.Net codebehind. I am using a class variable to hold data (named ods see below) from a SQL Server query so I do not have to keep going back out to the server. The class variable gets loaded ok and I populate a grid data with this dataset. However when I need to go back in and reference the dataset again, I get an error and I come to find out my dataset no longer holds the data.
Here is my declaration in my code behind:
Partial Public
Class LotTrackingMain
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Private con

Nothing
Private ods

Is there a way to set session variables during login that are then available to reports? We have a reporting services server where we move and denormalize data from our transaction system for reporting purposes. In order to allow our users to login with the same user name and password from the transactional system we have set up custom forms authentication and after much trial and error it is finally working. In addition we have the authorization accessing our transactional system so that any changes in user authority is immediately reflected in Reporting Services.
Our problem now is that we would like to add some additional features such as locking down parameters depending on user authority/groups in our transactional system. We have found a way to do it but it's inefficient, basically we have stored procedures that will query our transactional system to check for access. The problem is that these queries will often be run for every report request even though the answer is unlikely to change. It would be nice to have access to session level data that can be set once during log in and then accessed from the reports.

I have written server code in vb.Net. I want it to read to variables sent by another server's HTTP 'GET' request. For example the first server will send this URL [URL]msgid=$messageid where the values to be used by my server are sender, receiver, msgdata, recvtime and msgid I have written my code but it only reads the address sent by the http server and locates for the file in the server's root directory. I want the server to be reading the variables sent by the other server using the HTTP 'GET' request. My code is shown below
' the web server only accepts get requests.
If Mid(LCase(sbuffer), 1, 3) <> "get" Then
'if not GET request then close socket and exit

I've found out that if two instances of an SSRS report run at the same time, any Code variables declared at the class level (not inside a function) can collide. I suspect this may be the cause of our report failures and I'm working up a potential fix.The reason we're using the Code portion of SSRS at all is for things like custom group and page header calculation. The code is called from expressions in TextBoxes and returns what the current label should be. The code needs to maintain state to remember what the last header value was in order return it when unknown or to store the new header value for reuse

only code I can find after several hours of searching is a PHP function. Although I can more or less see what's happening, I'm not able to convert everything. The main problem is the "temp_getBytes" function. I don't know how to convert that.I already have the file as a byte array, because it was decrypted, so I'm writing the byte array to a memory stream in order to work with the data. I've added a bunch of question marks where I'm having a problem converting the code.

I'm trying to convert C++ API to VB.Net, but this function is too hard and i don't know how make it work.
Here is the API doc for this function:
void RemoteDllSetReceiver(void *inst, on_received_buffer_t received_buf_cb);
Sets a callback function to receive notifications from the DLL. The prototype of the callback is:
typedef bool (*on_received_buffer_t)(void* inst, const unsigned char *buffer, unsigned int size);
Where inst is the pointer originally passed to RemoteDllSetReceiver buffer & size contain the notification text as defined in the Remote Protocol. Note: notifications may arrive in different threads (e.g. network, timer, audio).
I can't imagine what i mus do with on_received_buffer_t, must it be a delegate? Like you can read, this functions returns notifications from the DLL like connection status, user id...
