Asp.net - Customvalidator For Dropdownlist Not Being Invoked (apparently)?

Writing a custom validator for a dropdownlist that is using autopostback. Seems to ignore the validation altogether. Why is it ignored and is there an easy fix? Note I did not use ControlToValidate

For debugging purposes, I want it to fail every time.It doesn't seem to be executing the behind code at all. For debugging, I added the line response.redirect("dummy.html") ... which never gets called, which also indicates (I think) that the validator never gets called.

I have a structure with 6 arrays inside it that is serializable so I can save the arraylist of them to a file and load them from the file. This part works.
When loaded from the file the data from a single specific record is populated to a listview control, this works on form load. The user can then select different records and in theory display the data in them (specifically the stuff in the arrays).
Displaying the data works as I'm editing the data, and on first load of the form and displaying the "default" record from the structures. Any other time (trying to switch between records during editing or after loading) the record is pulled (as shown by stepping through the code line by line) but the data in the arrays in the structure and only the data in the arrays is missing.
I've gone through all the code that runs and there is nothing that overwrites the array data in the records between displays so I'm at a complete loss as to why this data is going missing.
Below is the structure and the code.
Defined in a Module so as to be accessible when needed in several places through the program:

Public JBonuslist As New ArrayList
On load to set dimensions to the arrays:
JBonus.Str = New Integer(999) {}

Before I explain, the connection string I am trying to use is copied directly from elsewhere in the application that has always worked and still does.
Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;
Data Source=|DataDirectory|cdb.rmd;
Persist Security Info=False;
My problem is that no matter if I go to "Server Explorer", "Data Sources", or any other option it will not let me add a datasource/database. Up to this point I have done everything at runtime but now due to reporting issues I need to create a dataset in design view.
This is what happens:
I click "Add connection..."
I choose "Microsoft Access Database File" (Which it is...)
I click "Continue"
Form shows up with a field for my connection string, which I insert (shown above).
I click "Ok"
I get the following error:
Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0.
The "Test Connection" button is apparently useless as the connection passes even if the field is blank.
I have attempted reducing the connection string to only what is absolutely necessary.
I have copied the string directly from connectionstrings.com replacing my filename.
I have renamed the file to an .mdb extension.
I have used the full path from C: all the way to the file.

I have some VB.NET (which I don't normally deal with) code which must be converted to C# (which I normally do).The code happens to be in a Windows Forms app. I notice a couple of places such as:

where there is no ParentWindow variable defined, and it doesn't seem to be inherited here:
Public Class MainWindow
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form
Private Shared parentWindow As MainWindow
'....
(Though note that there is a similar variable with a lower-case first letter.)
and this:
DocumentCount = 0;
where, again, there is no corresponding variable definition and a straight conversion to C# Windows Forms indicates that there is no such member in the parent class.Am I missing an import somewhere, or is this a feature peculiar to VB.NET that doesn't translate directly to C#?

I am using the CustomValidator for the first time but it doesn't seem to be firing DateExpireRequired_ServerValidate and just runs the code in the Click action.Been bugging me for a couple hours now! can anyone see a problem with what im doing?The DropDownList in my code below is populated using Roles.GetAllRoles()

I have a CustomValidator that checks if text entered in textboxes matches certain fields in a database. This was all working great before, but I have modified my page quite a bit since then and it is no longer working. I didn't think I changed anything that would affect this, but apparently I did. All my other validators (required field validators) are working correctly, but my CustomValidator isn't responding.So anyway, here is my code:

Everything is working up until CustomValidator1.SetFocusOnError = True and args.IsValid = False. I have tested the If statement and it's working correctly, it returns true and anything else I put inside of it executes.

I know this has been asked a lot, but I have a server-side custom validator that is not being fired, and I cannot find why (also, I've copied examples that work from other places and cannot make it work...)

EDIT 2: Added a Page.validate() on my button code, and it does not call the server side of the validator.Also, the custom validator is being called (at least the client/javascript side of it, but not the server side)

I have a window having 2 dropdowmlists(schemename-SN and propertyno-PN) , one chkbox ,one "VIEW" button.SN has options "all" with value=0 and many other options with respctive values.Now,i want the code should behaves as follows:
1.0n window onload, SN must b visible bt PN nt.
2.if i select SN other thn All...the PN shud b visible and if i select "All" ,PN hides.
3.when check box is checked- PN hides,and if it is unchecked- PN visible..

I have a radiobuttonlist with two items, Yes or No. The radiobuttonlist control has a customvalidator that needs a servervalidation function and a javascript clientvalidationfunction. I have a form with contains, among others, a TextBox called "wmi_cell_phone" and a RadioButtonList "wmi_send_sms". Basically, I need to create a validator that checks whether the value of the selected radio is "Y". If this is the case, then it checks if the TextBox value is empty or not. If it is empty, then it should notify the user to enter a value.

I recently saw some VB .NET code as follows:[code]Does assigning Nothing to service do anything? If it is a garbage collection issue, I am assuming that when "service" went out of scope the referenced object would be garbage collected and the dispose method called on the object.It seems to me that assigning this variable Nothing can't really do anything, as there could be another reference to the object around so the reference counts haev to be checked anyways.

There is something strange going on in my VB 2005 program that I don't understand.. I have a form that has several tab pages. Each page has one or more DataGridView controls. When a user selects an item on one DataGridView , I want to deselect anything currently selected on any other DataGridView on that tab page. The only thing that should then be selected is the item I clicked on in the current DataGridView .
I created the following code (note there is a CellContentClick handler for each DataGridView control and there are DeselectAll... and RefreshAll... subroutines for each tab page).
It's fairly straightforward. But notice where I placed the XXX NOTE comment below. If I place a breakpoint there, run the program and click on various cells in various grids, and then click on the specified grid cell, I can create situations where the breakpoint is never reached! Thus, I don't turn off the selection in other grids.
How can this be? Is there some setting for DataGridView controls that I've inadvertently set incorrectly (without my listing them all here)? Or is there some bug in VB I'm unaware of? The "DeselectAll" subroutine merely iterates over all DataGridView controls in the current tab page (except for the current DataGridView) and calls ClearSelection on each such grid. RefreshAll calls Refresh on every DataGridView on the current tab page.

I have a form in Visual Basic that is adding a row of data to an Access Database.What will happen (or rather what I would like to happen) is that when the form is created, a row will be added to said database. Once that row is added, I want to have another form open (called NewWindowA) which will pull information on that database that is related to the ID of the row that was created from the first form.I know that in NewWindowA I need to have the form load the values on Load. But my question is: How do you pass a value to a new window that's invoked by some action?

I have found a couple of examples on the internet to do this but really struggling to get it working in VB. (Tried a converter but had mixed results) I need the selection options of a Dropdownlist to be populated based upon the differing values in the first dropdown list.
Can anyone help with a releativley simple example in VB? Not fussed if the values are "hard coded" in the script. Or a SQL bit that pulls the data from a table

What I am trying to do: There are three powershell scripts with different time delays as shown below.I am trying to run them asynchronously in .NET and I followed this article to implement Asyncrhonous programming. Where I am stuck:The I am not able to retrieve output after the events are invoked.The scripts are being called but then the program ends and it shows "Press any key to continue" in console windows.I don't what I am missing here.

I'm building a data entry interface and have successfully bound the columns that have reference tables for their data using DropDownList so the user selects from the pre-configured values.
My problem now is that I don't want the first value to be selected by default, I need to force the user to select a value from the list to avoid errors where they didn't pick that field and by default a value was assigned.
Is there a more elegant way of doing this than to add code to include an empty value at the top of the list after I get it from the database and before i pass it to the SelectList constructor in my controller class?
