What hapens is, my application creates an input file that is sent to an external app that returns a file with a different file extension. In my application i then extract data from this new file.I was thinking i could use a timer to "hold up" my app, but then i started reading about event handlers and catchers. What i have tried is using an If FileExists loop but i get a file not found exception. How should i use the file create event? By looking in the folder and "waiting" for the file to be created?

I have gotten my application to open with an associated file type, but now I'm trying to figure out how to associate the file types to the app. I associated them on my PC manually by right clicking on a file and selecting "Open With.." and check-marking "Always use this application to open this file type".What I want to do, is have my program make itself the default application for a file type with the press of a button.If it makes it easier, I'm writing a text editor and want to give the users the option of making it the default text editor for .txt &/or .rtf files.

View 3 RepliesI have problem to associate an Icon to the specific extention like *.nst which is my application's file.
I can associate icon by writing some registry entries where I have given the path of the icon file. but I don't want to do like this I actually want to embed the icon file into the EXE file and then set the ICON.
I have embeded the icons into EXE by doing some stuff but when I have given the icon index that icon is not associated with the file only first ICON is associated.
I finished creating my help file for my app using .chm program. Now, how do I go about associating that help file with my program so people can click on help and it's there. Do i need to bring it into my resources?
View 2 RepliesI am using VB 08 running an openfiledialogue wanting to get the result of the GDS file (*.gds) to be the default extension at the drop down menu instead of All file when the openfiledialogue box opens.
I coded it with:
OpenFileDialogue.Filter = "GDS File(*.gds)|*.gds|All files|*.*"
but the results i get in the open file dialogue box remains as all files being in the drop down menu as the default file extension. How to i set it to ".gds" format?
I implemented a Module using VB.NET in order to handle localization in an MVC .NET application.However, when I try to call the extension method LanguageSelectorLink from my view, it`s required to provide something for the first parameter of type HtmlHelper. Using Visual studio 2008, I have an application that its data can save to a binary file, using *.SDB extension, Moreover users can open this file from my application. I have 2 questions about this.

Recursive File Copy based on file extension. I have a single root folder that contains numerous folders that contain a few files that I want to extract. For this example, lets state that I want to copy all �txt� extensions and put them into a repository folder.
Example:

Why would I use an extension method instead of just creating non-extension sub or function?
For ex, I could have an extension function called IsNullOrEmptyOrAllSpaces on String, which does a check as its name implies. Or I can write a stand alone function that does the same thing. Other than having the extension show up in Intellisense, is there any advantage? Is a call to the extension quicker/more efficient than a call to a regular function?

P.S - I believe the reason it doesn't have an extension is because the picture changes each time the url is loaded (probably through a php code). I'm not too sure on the specifics, but the lack of an extension is what I am having problems with.
