recipes, i am trying to set a base entity class for my entities and this is the C# code for this. I would like to know whats the VB.NET version so i can implement it in my sample project
I just read this article about the Entity Framework 4 (actually version 2).Entity Framework seems to offer a huge improvement over its first release. Thus, I have never ever used EF in any project, since I think EF is not mature enough in comparison to NHibernate.NHibernate and its current contributions of FluentNHibernate and Linq for NHibernate by Ayende RahienMy feeling is that Microsoft is solely trying to gain terrain it has lost in favor of NHibernate when the 2nd version of NHibernate came out.Nevertheless, my concerns are the followings (not in particular order):Will EF4 tend to be less XML-verbose?Will EF4 be compatible with other underlying datastore than just SQL Server?What are the greatest benefits of going with EF4 instead of FluentNHibernate or NHibernate itself.
NHibernate is a great tool, I guess everyone agrees. Due to its predecessor Hibernate, we may easily find documentions and tutorials and sample applications to get acquainted with it. This is not the case for FluentNHibernate. Particularly as per the project I'm working on right now which demands that I investigate further about NHibernate and its options (FluentNHibernate for instance) in order to document the rules of usage and the best practices of NHibernat and FluentNHibernate technology. Thus, being handcuffed with VB.NET, being a C-Style developer, I can't find some syntax equivalencies in VB.NET for the examples provided, though I made I way so far
I'm writing a solution where the data entities are passed to clients using datasets through a WCF service, with nHibernate as ORM. My predecessor has written some translator classes, converting datasets to entities and vice versa. In most cases he's declared the return object as a parameter for the object.
For example:

Entity Splitting: one class, two or more tables.Here is how it is done in C#, but I need to get it working in vb.net.One more thing: the class name and table columns do not match, so I have to be able to map that out, too.I have to get this to work this way because the place I'm working at right now is a vb.net only shop and the database schema is fubar, but they have so much (millions) of lines of code done directly against the database in both asp classic, vb.net, AND asp.net webforms that changing the schema right now is not realistically possible.

I understand the error but am not sure how to fix it, how do I tell it which one I am using? On msdn it says to ignore this error turn Option Strict to Off, but it is already off. It's not showing up as an error in the error list at the bottom, just a red underline, but it is preventing me from continuing with .OrderBy() and anymore functions.

EDIT 1: Following Mr. JaredPar instructions, I figured that his solution might work. If we take the time to read his answer, we may notice that we both don't know what the MType is within his solution. I might have found out that the MType is:

Thus, TComponent is, from my understanding, an anonymous type that I shall parameter to use. From this point of view, since I wish to map the properties of my Address object, replacing TComponent in my help method signature seems not to work.

The error I get is that my Address class doesn't have a property member named Street, for instance. It sees my Address type, it recognizes it, but it seems buggy somehow. I guess VBNET is poorly designed for lambda expressions and is less evolved than C#?

In entity framework we can use 3 approaches model first , code first , database first but each one of them needs manual hand touch(means creating database or create model or write the POCO class codes or entity class codes) before proceeding to the next step ( using EF in context ).What if I want to create database and tables and table relationships programatically and still want to have to features of EntityFramework 4.3.
To be more specific ,from this example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307283 we can create database , tables and everything using SQL command but we can't have the advantages of entity framework. So if we want to have that what should we do? To give the ability to create dynamic table fields those steps will not be sufficient. In all 3 steps database , table and table columns are fixed. Question 1 (and question 2) should be very simple, but I have allready spent hours on Google to find an answer with no result at all. The only thing I have found is that you can get all computers in ObjectBase by writing context.ObjectBase.OfType(Of Computer), and that does not help since you cannot write context.BorrowObjects.ObjectBase.OfType(Of Computer) code samples in VB.NET (if you can), but more importantly: Please ensure that the codesamples you supply work without hours of modification!

I am trying to jump from ASP Classic to asp.net. I have followed tutorials to get Entity Framework and LINQ to connect to my test database, but I am having difficulties figuring out ExecuteQuery(). Explain what the lines of code above are doing? i'm more interested in the first line as the method it is written in exits when it hits that line, so apparently the variable oXML isn't being set. i know that oXML is supposed to be set to some kind of COM object but can you explain the "Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0" part a bit more? what is that, where is that, and what will it look like in .NET (this code is a classic asp)? i don't know what the second line of code above is either but the method never even reaches it so if you have any ideas about what that is doing would be great too.

I have a VBnet program that works fine and I'm hellbent on getting it to run under Linux eventually (looks like mono is the way to go sometime soon). But, for now, I'm looking at some of these code converters, online and otherwise and have some questions.
I tried a single procedure of code with the online converter and it threw quite a few errors relating to the procedure lines themselves (the opening Private sub etc, etc,)Something about C# and handles clauses -- can't remember.
So, I suppose the online converter just wants to see the code itself? As in, what lies between the Private sub blah -- CODE -- end sub?Now, what about something I saw this morning, "Sharpdevelop" that says it can convert entire PROJECTS to C#? (Also saw a 200.00 software package as well).
Is that the way to go? Will it do every bit of the project's code start to finish? You just load the project folder or the project file I guess?But then I see Sharpdevelop doesn't compile -- so you convert with it and then open the converted file with Visual studio C#.net?
I guess Microsoft will never have this conversion capability in visual studio?
