.Net CodeDom - Create Delegate With AddressOf Operator Equivalent?

Apr 25, 2011

Is there a way to create a delegate instance in .Net using CodeDom? I want to generate something which looks like the following:Dim myDelegate As someDelegateType = New someDelegateType(AddressOf implementingMethod)Below is more info on the context...Original Question:I am using CodeDom from the .Net framework (v3.5 if it matters) to generate a class. One of the classes defines a delegate method which in VB.Net looks like:Public Delegate Function filterByIdDelegate(ByVal obj As Object, ByVal id As Integer) As BooleanI then have a method which will provide the implementation:Private Function filterById(ByVal obj As Object, ByVal id As Integer) As Boolean Return (obj.ID = id)nd FunctionHere's the problem; how do you create an instance of the delegate (using the equivalent of AddressOf for VB.Net)? I am currently doing this (<filterByIdFunctionName> is a string holding the name of the delegate function, `' is the name of the delegate field):

Dim getFunction = New System.CodeDom.CodeMemberMethod()
With getFunction
'Declare delegate instance

Case (in) Sensitive Comparison With Operator In Runtime (without Option Compare)

Jun 24, 2011

Is there anyway to use LIKE operator in VB.NET as case sensitive or insensitive during runtime? For example use a flag to do case sensitive or insensitive comparisons.Obviously this can be done by simple converting them into lower case and forcing application to Option Compare Binary but maybe there is a better way to do this?

CLR - Function/Operator Without Return Value?

Sep 4, 2009

I've create a new project, and set treat all warnings as errors in the compile tab.All the other warnings seem to be treated as errors, except the one which I'm interested in "Function/Operator without return value".I have a simple function within a class, which does not show an error if I do not add a return statement to that function. I have read in many places that VB.Net returns a "hidden" default value if the returns statement is forgotten. My software went out to production where an overloaded function was missing a return statement, which wasn't highlighted due to the above.

Access Database And Using A Parameter Query With The LIKE Operator To Return All Rows That Match Query?

Apr 28, 2010

I am connecting to an Access database and using a parameter query with the LIKE operator to return all rows that match query. The string to search for is taken from a Textbox

sql =

"Select * FROM Allview WHERE Info Like" &
"*" &
CStr(TextBox1.Text) &
"*"
The query does not return any data in vb, but when run from access with same string, there is data returned. The connection to the database is done correctly, as I am able to return data with various other queries.

Error: Option Strict On Disallows Operands Of Type Object For Operator '='. Use The 'Is' Operator To Test For Object Identity

Jan 27, 2010

I am tightening up my coding with the Option Strict set to ON. It has now produced alot of errors. An example of this is:

If AllocatedDGV.Rows(i).Cells("RoomNumber").Value = RoomsAvailableDGV.Rows(j).Cells("RoomName").Value Then

It gives me the following error: Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity.

Option Strict On Disallows Operands Of Type Object For Operator Use The 'Is' Operator To Test For Object Identity

Apr 6, 2012

I need to write an interface to get data to/from our data files.

We have a low level class that holds field values for each record read from the files.

This just holds two values, the value read from the file (DBValue) and the updated value that may need to be written back to the file (CurrentValue).

These values may be any of the standard value types (integer, date etc) or a string.

Either value (DBValue or CurrentValue) may be null if not defined.

I have written the class to manage this data which works fine while option strict is NOT on.

But we have an office policy of having option strict on all the time.

When I put option strict on, my object value comparisons fail with the error: "Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity."

Question, how should I change the following code to handle option strict on ...

This is all running on Visual Studio 2010

Using Sender As A Case In Select Case Statement?

Mar 21, 2006

When my form loads it adds some handles (using AddHandler) to a sub (showStatus). What this sub does is checks which control activated the sub (using sender.Equals) and displays text in the status label (status) accordingly. For this I use an If...Then statement for each possibility. There are many possibilities and my code get cluttered. Is there a way to do the same thing with a Select...Case statement. I tried: Select Case sender Case tbOne : status.Text = "blahblahblahblahblahblah" End Selectwhere: tbOne is a textbox, status is a StatusLabelIt gives me an error though, saying "Operator '=' is not defined for types 'Object' and 'System.Windows.Forms.TextBox'."Any ideas on how I can get this to work with a select case statement?

.net - If Case Statement Throws Exception "case Else" Start Working?

Jun 19, 2012

It looks like impossible but...

Try
Select Case command
Case 1
smth()
Case 2

[code]....

Firstly Case 2 runs. Throws exception. And right after this debugger shows that next processed statement is Case Else. Only after Case Else throws own exception Catch block start working. I've never seen this trick. Why can this happened?I'm sure the block is entered once (not like this:first enter hit Case 2 and second hit Case Else).

Update:-To Matt Wilko. Thank you for answering. I've switch to Strict On in Options of VS2010 but nothing has changed. Command is variable, not function. Watch tool shows that on each step Command is the same ( Command = 2).

Fixed. Yeeaaaahhh. I simplefy code to
Try
Select Case 2
Case 2

[code]....

and change project to Console app. This works as I mention. The fix was in Release mode. I was debugging in Release mode. When I switch to Debug mode everything goes as it should.

I wish to check the hard drive space used in a folder on a hard drive. This will happen continuously as a service, so it will be calculating the space used for thousands of folders all the time. I know that this code can be done easily in dotnet, but it seems to take a really long time. Are there any APIs to do this more efficiently, or does the entire looping process have to occur to do this check?

Can't Convert A Delegate (from AddressOf) To A Long?

Feb 19, 2009

I am using the EnumWindows API Call, and I've looked at an API website. It can't convert a Delegate (from AddressOf) to a Long, so I made a delegate type for it. (Uh-oh, already.) I need to know something that will take the returned IntPtr and get the window title, so I can activate it with another API call and send some keys.
