Checking If String Is A Date In YyyyMMdd Format?
Aug 10, 2011Not so long ago, I saw somewhere a solution how to check if string is date in yyyyMMdd format (i.e. if it can be converted to date if written in such format). I can't find it anymore but I think is had something to do with DateTime.TryParse method but I can't get it to work. I can get it to work if string is in dd/MM/yyyy format, but dont' know how to make it with yyyyMMdd format. If I'm not mistaken neither of DateTime.TryParse method parameters is for assigning date format...

"20" & Right([TABLE]![DATE],2) & Mid([TABLE]![DATE],3,2) & Left([TABLE]![DATE],2)
which gives me YYYYDDMM. Does anyone know to get the DD and MM switched so it reads YYYYMMDD?

Mar 11, 2011I am throwing some data out into Excel and am having some formatting troubles. I have 5 columns (date, time, a long number I don't want displayed in scientific notation - text is fine, text, text). I can get it all working with numberformat, however I have to do them different ways.
Date works this way cell.numberformat = "m/d/yy" and it formats it to say 3/1/11
Time works this way cell.numberformat = "h:mm AM/PM" and it formats it to say 8:07 AM
For the long number cell.numberformat = "@" and it doesn't change the format and it gets displayed in scientific notation
BUT if I use cell.style.numberformat = "@" it works as it should, but it messes up all of the date and time cells. Apparently when you use style.numberformat, it doesn't just apply to the cell you're working with. If I try using style.numberformat with the date and time formats, they don't change and are entered as if I didn't change the format at all.

May 5, 2009The file reads in parameters and two of the parameters used to be in Date Format YYYYMMDD but will now permanently be in format YYYY-MM-DD. This change, I believe, is stopping the import of the file from working. I would like to replace the new format YYYY-MM-DD back to YYYYMMDD in the code. If possible I'd also like to see some output so I know that the old format has been replaced with the new format. The code is below. when doing so the code is being stoped and I get "InvalidCastException" error emssage:
Conversion from string "yyyyMMdd" to type 'Integer' is not valid.
If I do the following, then it works:
Dim testDate As Date
Dim testString As String
testDate = cbbxStartDt.SelectedValue
testString = testDate.ToString("yyyyMMdd")
This, returns the desired value: "20110103"
NB:
cbbxStartDt.SelectedValue.ToString returns: "03/01/2011 00:00:00"
So would it be possible that the problem comes from of the "time bit" : "00:00:00"?if, so is it the parsetime function which would allow to take into account only the time bit value of the combobox?

Aug 3, 2011I've got a little program that puts some info from an sql database into some text boxes on my form.The text box i'm trying to change shows a date in the format such as "JAN12" and I just want to take off the last 2 characters (always 5 characters) and put them in a second text box.I tried this to take off those 2 characters but it doesn't seem to do anything:
