Reasonably experienced programmer but newbie question on VB Express 2010: I have coded my 1st attempt at my project. I now want to save the work I have done and branch the code but be able to go back to what I did before if I screw up. What is the best practice? Do I get any help from Visual Studio. I could save a copy of the code in another directory or different file name

I wrote an application in my free time that helps people create certain files when they want to create a custom level for some game. The application of course is completely free, I made it for fun and to help the community. That community has now requested that I also release the source code of my application, in case I stop being interested and they ever want to fix some bugs (this has happened loads of times in the past in the same community, there are loads of good applications out there with some small annoying bugs where the creator has gone missing and the source is unavailable).
Therefore I would like to release my full source code, but not before consulting here how exactly I should do it..I could of course just zip up the entire Project folder and upload it, but I feel that is probably not the best way to go about it..

what tools do you use to create programming flowchart/documentation from VB.NET source code? There are absolutely no comments/documentation at present. I am a beginner, i.e. I tried Sandcastle but it is way over my head and could not get it going, not even with GUI.Fatesoft's CodeVisual To Flowchart is OK but it is almost the same as the code and I still don't understand the code.

Basically i am creating a console application that will create and store client information as a .txt file it is going okay but i have come across a slight hick up i want to use something on the lines of this .....
dim lastname as string
Do Until Integer.TryParse(Console.ReadLine(), LastName) = False
Console.WriteLine("Invalid input, Please try again")
Console.Write("LastName:-")
[code].....
this works fine to trap out numbers from letters but the problem i am getting is when the program calls uppon LastName it is recording 0 and wanted to know if there is a way of getting past this ..... so basically i need a way to allow letter but not numbers and symbols and then dispay a pernolised error message but at the same time use Stream writer to save was the answer is in a .txt file.

I don't know what this is called so I've struggled to find an answer from google but I have a vague memory of it from t'old days.I've sub-classed (* see below) about 8 framework controls, overriden some properties and added some functionality into each one.The changes I have made are identical in every case. If I make a change, I have to go through each class and apply the same change there.I was hoping there may be a keyword such as <IncludeSourcefile "common.vb> that I can put into each class.
(* note) I use the term sub-classed but I don't know if that's the correct terminology. I've also seen it used for call-backs. Is sub-classed the correct term to use?

My code for obtaining the source code is:

"Create a class called Invoice that a hardware store might use to represent an invoice for an item sold at the store. An Invoice should include four pieces of information as instance variables--a part number (type String), a part description (type String), a quantity of the item being purchased (type Integer) and a price per item (Type Integer). Your class should have a constructor that initialize for each of the four instance variables. Provide a property for each instance variable. If the quantity is not positive it should be set to zero. If the price per item is not positive it should be set to zero."
I attached the code I have. obj is underlined and says "Argument not specified for parameter 'Invoice4' of the 'Public Sub New (Invoice1 As Object, Invoice2 As Object, Invoice3 As Object, Invoice4 As Object)' and so the program won't run. What am I doing wrong?
Public Class Form1
Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim obj1 As New Invoice(Val(TextBox1.Text))
TextBox1.Text &= obj1.Invoice1 & vbNewLine
TextBox1.Text &= obj1.Invoice2 & vbNewLine
TextBox1.Text &= obj1.Invoice3 & vbNewLine
TextBox1.Text &= obj1.Invoice4 & vbNewLine

Which is the best way to store application and user settings of an application running with multiple instances? My problem is that using the vb's "Application Settings" one instance would overwrite the other one.I want to identify each instance with a number passed via command line argument. I could use this number to identify the appropriate settings of the running instance, but I see in a local INI o XML file a better way to handle that.

I am coding a program that will allow the user to input 5 payrolls for Store 1, Store 2, and Store 3. The total of the 5 payrolls are then added together and shown in the respective Store's labels. A total label is also there to add up all the totals into one number. The numbers in the label must be in currency form. My problem is the numbers don't add correctly when I hit calculate. The first two numbers add together, but then after that the number just seems to subtract a random amount.
So far I have this --
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
Me.Close()
End Sub

I'm having trouble figuring out the logic to this problem:Thus, you can create the bar graph with each store's name, and a separate label that has the sales information for each store. Since each asterisk represents $100 sales, you can just do # of sales mod 100 to get the number of asterisks you need for that store, then loop and add asterisks until the label has the correct number of asterisks. Repeat for each store input that the user gives.

I have a .exe which was created in VB.net about 4 years ago. Due to some upgrades the .exe doesn't work as it used to.I no longer have the source code and really need to get this program to work. Problem is my knowledge with coding is VERY basic. I was wondering if there was a way to extract the code from the source code from the .exe. I've done some googleing and from what i've gathered it's impossible to get the original source code. Is this true?
