Jan 15, 2010I have a project that I've published to a network drive with a setup file that works great but I cannot get it to create a Desktop shortcut. I don't have the option in the publish settings to allow this and I cannot find code that will work for me. Does anyone have any suggestions how to have the setup file automatically create a desktop shortcut? I'm using Visual Studio 2008.

The instructions were to create the file to the C: (or the same drive as the Windows directory) but Windows7 requires Admin privileges to write to this directory. It works great if I run Visual Studio as admin, but I'd rather just write to an unrestricted area. For example the desktop. Is there a way to write directly to the user's desktop without knowing the user's username. Right now I'm using this "c:UsersNickDesktopScores.txt"; which works but of course the user's name is different on every machine. How would I go about specifying the user's desktop?

Then I take the files in the bin else folder and try to run the exe file in another computer and it tells me that itīs missing some files like form designers and even dll files. It is trying to locate those files in the visual studio folder.

I would need to create a text file into the installation directory based on the answers the user who installs the program gives. Idea is that I need to have the installation path variable in a text file so that I can read it. And also some other directory specifications too.

The above path is a fixed path which connects my program to the database. Now when I create a set up file and try to run on another machine it wont recognize this path . have placed the database in the same folder that of the program.
