Best Way For Concurrent HTTP Connections?

Apr 22, 2010

I need to download a bunch of pages from a web server, ie. spidering. I know that servers are typically configured to only allow a couple of concurrent connections from a given IP, but that would already halve the total time to run the script instead of downloading one page at a time.

Creating An Instance Of A Class From A Class Library?

May 18, 2010

I've createda vb.net class library where I've defined a number of small classes... nothing complicated, just working with strings, sending emails, etc.In another project, I reference the class library and I'm seemingly able to create an instance ofone of tclasses - intellisense shows me all of the plic properties, methods, etc... all looks perfect. No compile errors at all, nothing b gumdropsand lollipops.When I run the app I'm working on that references the class library, it fails at the point where I'm creating an instance of the class and gives me a vague exception, "System.TypeLoadException".

I need to create a new instance of a class that needs a member of the calling class. But i can't pass a reference to the calling class through the constructor.The solution i am looking for is something like this:

Public Class ChildClass
Public Sub New(args)
_MyMember = GetMemberFromCallingClass()

I want this to work without having to manually pass any references or variables from the calling class to the new instance of ChildClass.

Stopping A User From Destroying DB?

Mar 4, 2011

I'm developing an interface for users that will allow them to enter data into a database without having to know SQL. Problem is, some one out there probably does.

How can I stop them from deleting/screwing with my data when they're typing entries within my text boxes?

For example, I don't want anyone to be able to type in DELETE * or any other kind of SQL statements in a text box to ruin the DBA's day.-Nothing to see. Move along.

[VB 2010] Destroying Objects And Retaining Application?

May 22, 2012

I have written a program to add a timestamp to a data sheet which had the time in seconds at which a sample was taken. The sampling was done every 0.1 seconds i.e 10 Hz sampling rate.The code I wrote enables one to select a file to which the time stamp must be added, and then runs a macro from excel when you click "Add Timestamp".

I am having a problem destroying the objects though so that they don't end up hanging around in the background. If Excel is already open I do not want it to close at the end of the program, I want Excel to simply return to its state before the application was run in order to prevent losing data on another unrelated excel task which may be open. The macro which is called closes any sheets which it opens. The other problem I am having is that if the program encounters an error there are a number of Excel objects floating in the background. My code is posted below.

Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel
Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
Public Class Form1

Create A Windows Service That Listens To A Port For Data?

Sep 17, 2009

I'm experiencing a weird problem. I need to create a Windows service that listens to a port for data. The data is comma separated, so I need to split it up and just write a few of the separated values to a file. This is a brief summary of my code:-

Do While True

tcpClient = tcpListener.AcceptTcpClient()
networkStream = tcpClient.GetStream()
Dim bytes(tcpClient.ReceiveBufferSize) As Byte

[code]....

Now the above code works fine. But suppose I just want to write only (2) to file i.e 2 of the comma separated values, problems arise. This is what happens:-

If I include both lines (1) and (2), output file = lines (1) and (2)
If I include only line (1) and comment out (2), output file = line (1)
If I include only line (2) and comment out (1), output file = BLANK ???

GetAsyncKeyState - Make A Program That Only Listens To A Few Keys That The User Presses?

Dec 15, 2009

im trying to make a program that only listens to a few keys that the user presses, and if one of them is pressed, it carries out a specified command.for example, right now,i found a keylogger that could carry out my command, but id rather use something else if possible. right now, i have a timer running this:

For i = 1 To 255
result = 0
result = GetAsyncKeyState(i)[code]....

Then, in the textbox1_textchanged, i search for like if textbox1.text.contains("M") or something.problem with this, is im pretty sure its a keylogger, and i dont want to have to have that. also, it does not work in vista.

Found a solution! (should have researched more throughly!)
Option Strict On

Destroy Instance Of .net Class?

this used to be so easy in C++ and VB6 I am dynamically creating multiple instances of a fairly simple class, tracking them via the Collections class in vb.net. I loop through the collection if I need to get to a particular instance to set some property, for example. Everything is fine, and works ok until I try to destroy the instances that I created (largely because I am probably not doing it right). What I am doing setting the instance to "nothing". That is, here is the portion of the code:
