A simple database has been created in Access, which is just basically a table of text, with some images as entries. A form has been created in VB2008 Express and linked to the database. Either a combibox, text boxes or pictureboxes are linked to a column form the database. The first row entries are all displayed correctly in the relavant boxes (except for the images, which for some reason aren't displayed). If another value in the comibox is selected, the other box values don't change and there is still no images visible...

View 9 RepliesI am writing a program in VB 2010. My computer is an E Machines dual processor Intel Celeron running at 1.8 gb/sec with 2 GB of RAM. I have a 1680 X 1050 display and the graphics driver in the computer is fully capable of utilizing this display. I am running Vista Home Edition.
The purpose of the program is to analyze a large number of infrared and visible light images from the geostationary satellites GOES East and West. Note: These images are TIFF and range in size from 400 KB to 70 MB. The pixels are either 8 bit or 10 bit depending on the image type.
The program allows the user to select a series of images from a file folder. These images are then displayed in a picturebox. A map covering the same area is also available to the user. The user may then move the cursor, via the mouse, to a selected location on either the map or in a picture. With a left click that location in terms of image coordinates is used to compute the geographic coordinates of the selected location. These coordinates are then displayed for verification purposes. So far, all of this works properly.
The next thing I need to do is to determine the brightness value of selected pixels in the displayed image. Because brightness is related to temperature this permits a detailed examination of cloud temperature and density in each image. By making this measurement at several different wavelengths (provided by images taken at different wavelengths) the program will then compute the atmospheric extinction factor at each selected wavelength and from that derive the atmospheric transparency function.
Here is where I have run into problems. I cannot find a way to extract the pixel value from the selected X, Y values input either by cursor position or by direct entry. I have tried the various approaches described in the documentation but I either get errors or a pixel value that is unrelated to the image. i have a chart of images.. and i want to load individual images into picturebox from that chart..chart = big image, eg alphabet chart. (yes i am creating a game for my small nephew.. pictures and alphabet) now, i want to show different pieces of images into picture box. like the A box, b Box etc one option is to cut the chart into pieces, save each piece with different filename and load individual filename into picturebox.but i saw somewhere that we can use pixel location to load images into picturebox..as i recall it required two pixel location, 1 was upper left and other was lower right.. and passing that pixel locations would load the rectangular image between those pixel locations into picturebox?

I read the text of the text file into an array but then i need to display it but i can't seem to get it. I also need to create a criteria to match whatever letter is entered into the textbox and display the contents of the file only beginning with that letter. I know i have to use a substring to read only the first letter but I can't even display the contents of the file from out of the array. Here is what i have so far.

Recently I have browsed the web for ways to display a list of files and folders in a list box. I have successfully been able to display files in drive C and get a nurerical value telling how many files were found. However my efforts have been hampered by three distinct problems. I have some experience using batch files and when using them you can state things like "%WINDER%" to go directly to windows folder. I am wondering if there's anything like that used for navigating. And if so could an example be made of it just for clarity?
My second problem is I cant seem to be able to display files and folders. I have been limited to one or the other. That and I cant figure out how to navigate into them to display there contents. The next problem I have is simply having a user interface so you could type a file path or file extention and have the program navigate to it. Is it is possible to click a file path in a list box and chose to delete it. My second last Q how do I display all files and folders including hidden files? And How can I count all files and folders with there contents to dissplay in a listbox.
I am having a problem displaying a custom array list I have in my code. (BTW. It is 1am where I am. I have been at this for a long time so I apologize if I don't make a lot of sense).I built an arraylist of objects from a custom class. The arraylist contains 2 columnsdimensions.The first is type string, the second decimal.I am now attempting to take my arraylist and display it in my form. I'm working on a site that I've inherited that's built with ASP.Net, which I'm only slightly familiar with. One of the pages allows for a link to a document (word or pdf) that, when clicked on, prompts the user to save or open the file, but does not reveal the true path of the file. This way it prevents users from pasting a url to a file - the link is to an aspx file that checks for a valid session, and then retrieves the file.
Anyway, because there's a lot of legacy code, I need to do this with a bunch of static htm files as well, however these files need to be displayed rather than prompting the user to save them, which is what happens now. I tried changing the content type to application/text, application/html, text/html, etc. and that didn't work, then tried adding a response header of content-disposition inline. When I do that, build, and try linking to the file, I get a couple of runtime exceptions:

Do I have to do something with an htmlwriter object or something? Can't I just have it open a new browser window with the file displaying or does it have to prompt the user if used in this way??
I'm working on a desktop replacement project and was wondering if it possible to have a form which can be docked to the side of the screen that contains all the task tray icons and functions (I would imagine that the functions are held within the task tray/icons themselves as they act as little programs) and would update automatically whenever anything is added.
Also, I'd like it not to have a taskbar entry while running, just having it sit there on the screen until needed.

I am trying to display the contents from a datagrid into a textbox, there are two collums that I want to display. I can get one collum to display by using the following code.

but I want to display (from the same row), collum two.
In my project, I am trying to store the collection of Hatch styles in an array list and display rectangles with each of these styles at different locations in a picture box. I used this same approach with built in colors using code suggested from frorum members and it worked great.
When I run the following code I get an 'invalid cast exception' error on HB = ((CType(HatchList(j), HatchBrush))). When doing colors the the same code, SB = New SolidBrush((CType(ColorList(i), Color))) works fine so I think there is a problem with the format of the conversion. I left the NEW out since I got an immediate error stating no accessable new accepts this many arguments.

I would like to load a GIF file, and start with the first pixel and check to see if that pixel color is closer to Black, Red, Green or Yellow, then take what ever color it closest matched to and output that color as a number, 0, 1, 2 or 3. I'm a Visual Basic beginner. I want to replicate an existing Mac application that I have with Visual Studio 2010. As you see below, this application (Mac version)'s form has a folder picture at the center. That's a drop box onto which the user can drag and drop a folder, and the application will get its path and write it to a database when the user clicks on Add. Now, according to Microsoft's web site, the PictureBox control has a property called AllowDrop, which is what I need, except that I don't see it as you see below. If PictureBox doesn't have AllowDrop, then what will be my next best alternative to accept a file/folder while displaying a picture?

I load up the old image, copy a section of it into a new image, then save the new image. So far everything works my problem is that the images that i have to alter are 900mb+. Using the simple Bitmap class is not working because the images are quite apparently too large to fit into memory that way. (throwing an OutOfMemory exception)I want to step over the part of loading the image, and turn it into streaming the pixels from the image straight from the disk. I kind of have an idea of how to get the stream open and start reading, but I have no idea what to do with the 32bit integers that are being returned. how to stream pixel data from an image?

View 2 RepliesI have a small 10px by 10px image, and I want to use VB.NET to find out if that image is (an exact) part of a larger image.I thought a method of doing this would be to lock the bits of the larger image into memory and then loop through each pixel in the image and for each pixel, I could take the 10px by 10px section which is down and to the right of that pixel.. and then compare it to my smaller image.

when I'm looping through the 10 by 10 section and I find the R G B bytes for each pixel, how do I store this in my rawImage array so I can convert it to a back bitmap and compare it with my original small 10by10 image?
I want it so every time I click an ITEM in the Listbox it displays ALL the data into the textbox. I know there's an easy way using table adapters and binding the listbox, but I'd prefer to do it this way for my project.
