i m in great need for help regarding my project. the project is ECG recording ,i want to save these ecg signals in text file the input is taken from sound card... but now i need to save them in text file.... also i want to compare them.. with a standard ECG wave.. for calibration purpose only. if any thing is not clear i can send the whole project coding for better understanding...jst tell me the mail-id.urgently need help...one more thing.. along with ecg signals temperature is also be stored in the same text file for a particular recording..

I have to create a new program that reads to Text files. These text files are in the form of a report (with column headings). The purpose is to compare each record line by line to see if their have been any changes made. The record is based on an Account#. Over time these files will be considerably large. What is the best way to do compare records from each file. I'm thinking loading each file into an array and processing them that way.

I have 2 Text Boxes containing lists of names and I have a 3rd text box which I would like to use to determine the names that are missing from textbox2 that are listed in textbox1.
Textbox1 is: Customer
Textbox2 is: Closed Sale
Textbox3: is Sale not finalized
Would be great if it could auto populate into textbox 3 if not I will just use a button to action the function. First crack at dabbling with VB and whilst googling has managed to aid me in many ways unfortunately sometimes it is difficult to find relevant threads.

Does any one know how I can compare the numeric value of a text box on my Visual Basic 2008 form to the values in a particular column of a SQL database table? Things seem to work fine with bound controls when there are related records in the child table, but if a value is selected that has no related child records the form continues to display old information from the last record viewed. I would prefer to have the fields on the form go blank.

I am trying to use the Boot log and I really don't have much experience with parsing and comparing. What I need to do is to get only the minutes and seconds time stamp from a string similar to this from the boot log

Next once I get the minutes and seconds subtract 5 seconds
Next compare the resulting minutes and seconds to the minutes and seconds from a second file and display the result
EXAMPLE: If you take the minutes and seconds from above 40:47 - 5 = 40:42.
Next you get the minutes and seconds from the second file and you get 40:59
So you wind up with 40:59 - 40:42 = 00:17

My card program generates a text file AllCards.txt - I want to know when the first character in this file is identical to the 3rd, 5th, 7th, or 9th. In this case I would need A (1st char) checked against the 5 (3rd char), 5 (5th char), 7 (7th char) and 8 (9th char).

This is the code I have in one button and I have 2 listboxes that will be filled with the info it gets.This code should compare 1 avi file to one jpg file and see if they have the same name. If YES then it will add the avi path to one listbox. If they don't have the same name OR the .jpg doesn't exists it will add avi path to another listbox.. But currently it is adding the avi name to both listboxes.

So I'm in the final stages of finishing a program I've been working on for nearly a year now, and this is basically my final hurdle. The Save dialogue is working beautifully, with 'flags' in order to switch it over from the regular input into text boxes to the Listbox input protocol.
However, I'm having a *** of a time getting it to take lines from the text file and put them in the proper text box. Here is an example file:

So with the sample file I provided above, in the textbox named callNameText would appear "SHOWNAME", and so on and so forth. With this build, I get a NullReferenceException on the "Me.Controls(strboxNames(i)).Text() = strAllText(ati)" line.

I save data from datagridview to text file. I also load the same data from text file into datagridview for edit and update the same thing to text file. Let say this text file i called as Drill.txt. All I would like to do is remove one character from the line of the text file that I am reading, which is the first character and also prevent the program from crashing if no text file is present.Here is the code. Can anyone notice where I am going wrong? I thought the "if" statement would cover the crash but it didn't. Clueless, but sort of have an idea on the character removal.

what would be the optimum code in VB2010 that check a file to determine:
1) is it a text file, and
2) if it is a text file, does it contain any non-ASCII characters
Note that LF, CR, and EOF would be expected, and should not be flagged. I can think of 3 - 4 ways to do it, but there may be a 'best' way in terms of simplicity and speed.
