Export A Datagridview To Excel And Open The Excel Spreadsheet (not SAVE The Worksheet)?
Jan 10, 2012
I'm trying to export a datagridview to Excel and open the Excel spreadsheet (not SAVE the worksheet).
Public Sub ExcelRpt(ByVal DgvName As GridView, ByVal url As String)
Dim xlApp As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application
Dim xlWorkBook As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook
Dim xlWorkSheet As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet
I made it through opening an Excel Worksheet, and now I"m getting an error when I attempt to open the worksheet called "DTNPrice". Most examples I have found relate to creating a worksheet. I'm using Visual Basic 6 and Excel from Office 2003. I just need to open the worksheet and place about 300 lines of data in the worksheet.
Below is the method I'm using to export my gridview data to Excel. The user has asked if I can name the worksheet tab.
Private Sub btnExportToExcel_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnExportToExcel.Click Dim form As New HtmlForm Dim strAttachment As String
in my scheduling app I am able to export to excel and fill the first worksheet with data and save the workbook and change the name of the worksheet(Thanks to .paul) but I am stuck on adding a new workshhet and renamiming it.so I do this:
'in this case I am starting with Jan 16 - Feb 12, 2011 and changing it to Jan16Feb12,2011, ' this will be the workbook name. fileToOpen = lblDateRange.Text fileToOpen = fileToOpen.Replace(" ", "").Replace("-", "") & ".xls"
VB2005. I have several DataSets that I create or grab from an external source. One example is Dim sql As String = "SELECT TOP 30 * FROM myTable" & vbCrLf & _ "WHERE Area='YY' AND CarNum='734EP' " & _ "ORDER BY ProcDate ASC;" Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapter(sql, myOLEDBconn) 'create a dataset and fill it with the returned data. Dim ds As New DataSet da.Fill(ds, "MyData")
Once I have these DataSets I then have to pump them into a specific worksheet in an existing Excel2007 workbook. The connection and interaction with Excel and the workbook/worksheet is already established and that works. But I am stuck in exporting the DataSets into the specific worksheet.
Note that I have already scoured the web and MS Community site and all code that I have found so far iterates through each and every row and column of the DataSet and then adds that to the worksheet in a cell by cell manner. This is fine and in testing that works. But there has got to be a better way to do this. For even a moderate sized DataSet the exporting just takes a long time. 25 records with 15 columns takes about 10 to 15 seconds.
I've also been experimenting with some scratch code I found that converts the DataSet to an ADODB Recordset and then uses the xlwksht.Cells.CopyFromRecordset function to export it in one fell swoop. I haven't got this one to work just right but it seems in the end it also does an iteration through each and every record and field to convert to the ADODB recordset.
i have an Excel spreadsheet which I have exported to a Gridview. In my code the table name has to be declared i.e its the name of the worksheet. How can i export excel and select which table i want without hardcoding the table name. i have many worksheets and want to the user to select which table he wants from one workbook. I am using vb and have a web form.
What I was wondering is if I had a ListView1 with 1 row and 5 subitems, could I export that whole row into an Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet, by defining in which Excell row/column I want to add each subitem into?
I see the examples where I can export a table into an Excel Worksheet by using SELECT * INTO [Excel 8.0;Database=C:Book1.xls].[Sheet1] FROM [MyTable] But I can only use [MyTable] if it is a binding source correct? What i would like to do is something like:
I am trying to export table data to an excel spreadsheet. It would be beneficial to have filtering pull-downs in the spreadsheet.I would be will to purchase any software tools to make this task easier. Otherwise are there some tutorials for accomplishing this?
I have this issue that occurs with me and driving me crazy i have a report that contains thousands of records and i need to export it to excel , but the excel normal extension .xls
is showing missing records at the end of the file , so i save my file as an .xlsx extension it saves correctly but when i open the file it generates an error
"Excel cannot open the file '<var>filename</var>.xlsx' because the file format for the file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file."but when i test the file i drag it and open it in an empty notepad all the records shows up correctly
I have posted this in other parts of the forum but either im not understanding what they are saying or they arent understanding my question. My goal is to open a word document or an excel spreadsheet from within my seperate VB app. bounce some of my calculated variables and images out to specific markers in that document, and then print the document.
I can Open my office doc, I can send the test variables out the way they need to go out. I cannot get an image to go out to th open document from within my vb app.I feel like it is something relatively dumb in my code but i cannot figure it out.

The issue i have with that line is that even though i have made a picture object in my excel sheet called Picture1 it is not public and i cannot access any of its members to modify it.
I wanting to try and develop a form that will allow me to import an excel spreadsheet in to a datagrid view, can do that bit with this, Vb.net Information. what i want to be able to do is select which columns in the spreadsheet go where so say i have a spreadsheet with;
ProductCode, ProductName, ProductDescription, ProductCost and ProductMaker
In my DataGridView i have ProductName, ProductCost and ProductDescription. Is it possible to get a list of the columns in a spreadsheet that have text in and then either have a combobox that you select a value from and then after pressing a button it then imports the selected details in to the correct format, (Like mail merge)
I have a datagridview which I would like to be able to export the information to an Excel spreadsheet, and be able to reload the information later on from a specified worksheet. Also, I'd like to avoid using Databases with Access etc because I am aware that some of the machines I'll be deploying the program on do not have Access installed and would not want to have to install it either.
I'm trying to import an excel spreadsheet to a bound datagridview. I have a second form which I do all the importing from and update Form1's datagrid view. This part works great. Now, I am trying to update the table that the DGV is bound to, but cannot seem to get it. I know it is probably a simple Update command (which I've tried) but everything fails. It is confusing to me because I create a second dataAdapter and dataSet to import to, then set the BindingSource of the DGV to this new ds. Ideally, I want the Bound table to be empty, then require the user to import on the first run. After that, the imported list would always load.
Here is the code I use to import to the DGV and it works: vb.net Dim ds As New DataSet Dim da As OleDbDataAdapter Public Sub importDBButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles importDBButton.Click OpenFileDialog1.InitialDirectory = "" OpenFileDialog1.Title = "Select the Excel File to import from" OpenFileDialog1.Filter = "Excel(*.xls)|*.xls" [Code] .....
My DGV on the first form has a manually added column at index 0 that is a simple graphic. Not sure if this is causing errors, but thought I'd mention it. The spreadsheet that is imported is only 2 columns of the DGV. Do I have to specify data for the other columns? (There's about 16 and I didn't want to have to require the user to fill all that data out in the spreadsheet). How to save this imported data to the bound table?
I am trying to fill a DataGridView box with data from an Excel2007 spreadsheet. My code below connects to Excel2007 workbook but then errors and gives this error
[Code]....
Where have I gone wrong and how can I fix this, as I want to show the data in the DataGridView and then move it from there into my SQLServer DB?
Dim xlApp As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application Dim xlWorkBook As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook Dim xlWorkSheet As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet[code]....
what I want to do is have a column name in the excel worksheet which is not included in the code..i'm getting the data from a datagridview but it only shows the data in the excel.. i also want the field name of these data to be shown..another, as you can see in the code given, the directory is fixed.. what do i have to do to choose a directory to save my work? and also, i have many gridviews and whenever i'm exporting my work to the excel worksheet, it always overwrites my work.. i want to choose the directory to save, also show the field names, and make a separate worksheet for every gridview..
I got a code that exports datagridview to excel, how can I format the worksheet in excel through coding in vb.net because I have to include a header before the data in the datagridview nd some data that is in my form in vb.net like the values in my labels and textboxes.
I found this Code Snippet GridView Export to Excel, that works but does not export the last column and is a little slow.
Private Sub ButtonExport_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ButtonExport.Click Dim rowsTotal, colsTotal As Short
I need to export data from excel to datagrid and have done it..whole excel data is displayed in datagrid..coding but i got an error when Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid coz' i have some null data in my excel file
