Method Which Check If A Certain DSN Exists Then If It Does Extract Information And Use Information For Connection Purposes

Feb 2, 2011

I was looking for some stuff online, and i was looking through my reference sheets for vb.net, but it seems in the code i have found, there is declare in methods. Below is an example i am talking about. The thing is, that i dont recognize it and believe that it is an earlier version of Visual Basic ( 6 or earlier) which used it. Should i just keep looking for different code?

Public Declare Function RegOpenKey Lib "advapi32.dll" Alias "RegOpenKeyA" (ByVal hKey As Long, ByVal _
lpSubKey As String, phkResult As Long) As Long

Goal: Find information on how to implement a method which will check if a certain DSN exists, and then if it does, extract the information and use the information for connection purposes.

How To Extract Information From 'IADsUser PostalAddresses'

Jan 18, 2011

I am attempting to extract information about a work location from the IADsUser object. Other IADsUser methods like IADsUser::LastName or IADsUser: :EmailAddress return a string.I thought IADsUser::PostalAddresses returned a variant (array of strings) and I have attempted to extract the infromation, but I have had no success so far. I can find very little documentation on how to extract this information.I have provided some code below to try and make it clear what I am trying to do.[code]I am not sure how to print out objects properly in VB6. I am not concerned whether or not a particular IADsUser has the information I am looking for; I have error handlers in place to check for this. I removed them to make the code easier to read.

Asp.net - Extract/convert Information From A Listview (to A DataTable)?

Jan 4, 2010

I have a relatively simple Listview that suddenly needs (due to new requirements) to have it's 'layout' extracted to a DataTable so that a common routine can convert it to an Excel spreadsheet for export purposes.The ItemTemplate is just a series of Table Rows with some text, data-bound labels and textboxes with validators in the cells.Usually, when trying to pull out a particular value (like what was entered into a text box), I use the ListViewItem's .FindControl method.

For Each objItem As ListViewItem In lvwOptions.Items
Dim objTextHrsLabor As TextBox = CType(objItem.FindControl("txtHrsOptByLabor"), TextBox)
decHours = CDec(objTextHrsLabor.Text)
Next

In this case, however, I'm trying to take all the data displayed - all the 'rows and columns' of the table that was created.Inside the ForEach / Next loop of ListViewItems, I started a ForEach/Next loop of Controls for each instance's controls but I got some really strange results returned (like controls that had a couple of table cells in them).

I get the sense I'm headed in the wrong direction. All I want is for the nicely-formatted 5-line, 6 column table to be converted to a 5-line, 6-column data table.

Oct 17, 2010

How would I do that? Sample code is below that demonstrated that the file I opened contained the full path and file name.

I want to extract just the path and serialize that to the user.config file as a UserSetting value. Then next time the user opens the dialog box, it uses that saved path string to go immediately to the location previously used.

If openFileDialog1.ShowDialog() = DialogResult.OK Then
Properties.Settings.Default.persistConnectionType = openFileDialog1.FileName
Properties.Settings.Default.Save();

The program is currently trying to pull information from three different database tables and compiling the information onto one screen, to do this i am using three different connections and a function to handle the data at each stage. This occurs on line 15 of the first code snippet. Can anyone explain this and/or identify any code issues if that is the cause.

Interface And Graphics :: Drawing Dotted Path Lines, With Even Dots Along The Path Line?

Apr 13, 2012

Problem drawing dotted path lines, with even dots along the path line.I want to draw a path line that can be any shape (square, round, outline etc), and along this path line I want even dots to appear.

I also want to be able to resize the shape (as in the example attached)This is very easy to do using "DrawPath" and defining points for the path and using a pen defined as dots.The problem I have is I want the dots to be evenly placed along the path, on any shape or size I draw.In the example I have created, I create a square with 4 points and draw a dotted path.There are 2 buttons that allows me to resize the square (larger or smaller) this helps show the problem more clearly.

The path starts at the top left corner and finishes back at the top left corner, the dots are evenly placed along the path, except the final dots at the end of the path. (Sometimes the dots are even and other times they are not even).The shapes I want to draw can be any size and any shape, but I have used a square in this example to show the problem I have. point me in the direction I need to go that allows me to draw the dots and give the impression that they are even all along the path, for all shapes and sizes.

In the pictures below if you change the size of the shape, one will have even looking dots, the other will not.

Convert Unix File Path To Windows Path?

Jun 14, 2012

I'm using acrobat that returns unix paths instead of windows path's. So im wondering if there is a way in vb.net to convert the path to windows path.

i tried using:

docs(i) = javaScriptObj.path().ToString.Replace("/", "").Substring(1)
position = docs(i).IndexOf("")
docs(i) = docs(i).Substring(0, position) + ":" + docs(i).Substring(position + 1)

this only works on local files, but fails when im starting to use network drives.

Nov 29, 2010

Well now i have an issue which is pointing in the use of "path's" physical and network.I have a SQL server on a Server machine and i have a desktop machine used as client.I'm runing from my client machine a stored procedure in order to add a streaming data base.But also before i run this procedure i run another one which prepare the desired "path", this procedure takes:

myPath="\ServerSharedFolderSQL

in order to run the first procedure i have to turn myPath in each physical name:

myPath="DriveLetter:PublicWorkFilesSQL"

Now my Issue is how i will have the physical path, which is build it on the server and which it's from very difficult (to imposible) to know it? Basically i need a function which will return me the physical path, which the implementation it's not knowing to me. My developing environment is vb.net 2010?
