Get VB 2002 Conversion To VB2008 To Work -- Config/manifest Error Unclear?

I have a VB2002 program that works. When I run it in VB2008, it updates, and runs and debugs until I shut down. When I try to start it up again from the updated SLN, or try to run the .exe in the BIN folder, I get the message "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.
I checked the error logs and it says there is a syntax error in the first line of the vhost.manifest file in the BIN folder. The first line is the xml declaration and it includes the parameter standalone = "yes".
When I put the error message into Google I only get references to Visual C++ compiled programs running on machines without the C++ redistributable dll. That doesn't seem to apply here at all, since I have the VB 2008 express edition installed on this

I have created a C# .Net DLL add-in for Excel.When I try it on my home machine with WinXP and OfficeXP 2003 it works as expected. When I try it on a couple of machines at work with WinXP and OfficeXP2002 it does not work.I have spent 2 days solid reading up on this subject in general and I still cannot get to the bottom of the problem. As far as I can work out what I am trying to do should work with Excel 2002.
Some details:
- I am using Visual Studio EXPRESS 2008 (C#).
- The assembly is signed with a Strong Name Key File.
- I have installed the OfficeXP (2002) PIAs.
- I have created a class DLL in accordance with many MSDN and other internet posts.
- I have registered the DLL using RegAsm.exe and GACUtil.exe.
- I have added registry entries for Excel for CURRENT_USER so Excel should know about the DLL.
The DLL adds some Automation functions (Tools-Addins-Automation) which can be accessed in cells within Excel (for example you would enter =MultiplyFirstBySecond(2, 3) in a cell and get a result of 6) and also implements the IDTExtensibility2 methods so that when Excel is opened it creates a button on the toolbar which when pressed pops up a message box. It it this functionality (adding buttons with code behind them) that I want to expand on.I have attached the zips of the batch and registry files I have created to register the DLL in the GAC and in the registry. I have also attached a zip of the complete project. I would like to know if there is anything I should check with my machine's setup or my project or my registration/installation of DLLs, PIAs etc in order to make my DLL work on my Excel 2002 machine.

I've been having an error with my Visual Studio 2008 with .net framework 3.5 Sp1. I am creating a project, and it would run properly until after a while when I try debugging the project I would get a error message that says:
"Error while trying to run project: Could not load file or assembly 'Name_of_Project' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest."
Also the .exe file that it creates in the bindebug folder gives and error that says:
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). Click OK to terminate the application."
These errors after a format of the machine would disappear for awhile but not indefinitely.

Setting controls to objects allowed me to cut down on typing but it seems you are not allowed to reference things without the "full path". I understand that you now have to set the full path of the object but doesn't setting something to an object already do that? Do I have to just delete the object references on the top and instead of using objCmbGraveU2 I now need to replace it with frmMain.cmbGraveU2?

I am using source safe to maintaine my code.Recently I copied my code to another machine.But everytime i build my project i am getting below error:Problem generating manifest. Could not load file or assembly
'D:WorkingFolderProjectSubFolderobjReleaseSubFolder.exe.manifest' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.When i check above manifest file is empty (0k).I tried rebuilding (after cleaning solution) , also tried with copy pasting previus manifest file content.None of above solution worked.

I`m trying to write a programme ,in VB2008 Express, to receive Serial Port Ascii data ( from a Multimeter) and display it as Hex Data in a textbox. I can get the Ascii data to show, but just cannot convert it into Hex. Once I can do this I want to write a new front end for the Mulimeter software.

If the user clicks on the future Value radio button the ReadOnly property of the Future Value text box is set to true and a CaluclateFutureValue procedure is called. If the user clicks on the Monthly Investment radio button it sets the ReadOnly property of the Monthly Investment text box to true so a user can enter a value. I am making a visual basic game. And in the game I have a few instances where I want to call open a window (let's save to save the user's preferences) from a form, then I want to go from that form to another one.
Example:
The user has completed the new game page. I have the users choices in a host of string, integer, and boolean variables. Now I want to use a generic saving screen I made with a progress bar. When I open up the saving box, I want to close or hide the new game setup menu (whichever I need to do). Then when it is done saving I want the Saving bar to return and cause the new game form to open the actual game form and close itself.
So I guess my question is this: What is a reliable(or correct) way to poll for a return in form to signal it to go ahead with execution?
Second:
This is similar to the first question. Instead of keeping the first form open when I use the saving form; is there a way I can save the name of a page I want the saving bar to go to once it's done?
I want the user to enter their prefered username before they start a new game for the first time. So I poll the saved username setting I have and if it equals "username" I want the Username entry form I made to pop up, but once it's done I want it to immediately call the new game screen. I also want to use this username entry form on the options screen so that the user can change their accepted name at anytime; but I want this screen to return back to the options screen.
What is the accept way to do this? Is it done through stacks? (form information -> stack : load new page : Do stuff: load stack value -> goto)
Finally:
Do I have to keep a window open (not close it) to access the variables that I have defined in it, and have stored values too? Does this apply to hiding too?

I have 2 console apps projects in the same directory but different projects. There is some common code in the App_Code directory and a common app.config which gets build into seperate .exe.config files.One module (VScanDemonStarter) starts up and writes to one logger with its own appender going to a seperate file. It uses an process.start() to execute the other module (VScanDemon) in another command prompt hidden window.When I run VScanDemon by itself it puts entries into its log file. When I run VScanDemonStarter it puts entries into its (different) log file, the VScanDemon log file gets created, but no entries. I can see it is executing because some files get moved from one directory to another. Just no Log entries.

I have this code below that I called a Conversion Wizard Because it converts temperature, weight and currency. It works so far but I am stuck. I don't know how to apply the correct loops to it. For example, Do While and Do Until. I want it to be able to work out a conversion then loop back to the Menu-options. So that you can do as many conversions as you like and end when option 4 is selected.

The Form Designer in the IDE is no longer working properly. When I create a new project, the Form Designer will work, but after I save it and close the IDE and reopen the next day the Form Designer no longer shows the form and instead says "To prevent possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved: An Error occurred while parsing EntityName.Line 2, position 62" If I click ignore and continue, then it just displays a blank form with no controls. The problem appears to have started after I unistalled and reinstalled VB2008 Express.
