from the documentation we have this: Multicast Delegate: Represents a multicast delegate; that is, a delegate that can have more than one element in its invocation list.
so am i right to say that Multicast delegate is no different from a normal delegate other than the fact that it has arguments. so System.Action is a 'normal' delegate whereas System.Action(T)(Byval obj as T) is a multicast delegate?

I have a section of code that deletes a lot of columns, one at at time, based on conditions that arise. Currently it does this:
objrpt.objXLSheet.Columns(col) _
.EntireColumn.Delete(Excel.XlDeleteShiftDirection.xlShiftToLeft)
There are so many of these, that I'm getting tired of looking at these lines so I want to curry the references to the Excel stuff.I tried:
Dim DelCol As Func(Of Integer) = Function(col As Integer) _
objrpt.objXLSheet.Columns(col) _
.EntireColumn.Delete(Excel.XlDeleteShiftDirection.xlShiftToLeft)
but that won't compile, giving me the error: "Nested function does not have the same signature as delegate 'System.Func(Of Integer)'. Ah forget it. I see that I'm trying to call a method from a function. I guess that won't work.Wait, I'm now trying it another way. I first defined a function:
Private Function DeleteColumn(ByRef objrpt As ExcelReport, ByVal col As Integer) As Object
DeleteColumn = Nothing
Dim objrng As Excel.Range
[code]....
Now the error message is a little different:
"Nested function does not have the same signature as delegate 'System.Func(Of Object)'.

It works, when I make getBar methods public, but I don't want to expose these unneccessarily. Why I can't call private shared methods from a public one in the same class is over my head. I'm using .net framework 4.0 in a web application.

I am trying to write a VB.NET alternative to a C# anonymous function.I wish to call Threading.SynchronizationContext.Current.Send which expects a delegate of type Threading.SendOrPostCallback to be passed to it. The background is here, but because I wish to both pass in a string to MessageBox.Show and also capture the DialogResult I need to define another delegate within. I am struggling with the VB.NET syntax, both from the traditional delegate style, and lambda functions.My go at the traditional syntax is below, but I have gut feeling it should be much simpler than this:
Private Sub CollectMesssageBoxResultFromUserAsDelegate(ByVal messageToShow As String, ByRef wasCanceled As Boolean)
wasCanceled = False

I have a program which use an API. One of the functions of this API has threading.Once I start this function. It will continue reading data and once the data is found, it will pass me the data to a function let's say functionnd I call a delegate functionB from this functionA.And at some point this functionB throw me an error of "Collection was modified; enumeration operation might not execute.".Does anyone know what this mean?I google it and found that this error was caused by "For Each or For" loop.But in my program I don't have any for loop.

This is a mix of C# and VB.Net. I have a C# class with with 2 delegates:
public delegate string GetSettingDelegate(string key);
public event GetSettingDelegate GetSettingEvent;
public delegate void SetSettingDelegate(string key, string value);
public event SetSettingDelegate SetSettingEvent;
In a VB class I add handlers to the event:
AddHandler _gisCtrl.SetSettingEvent, AddressOf SetSetting
AddHandler _gisCtrl.GetSettingEvent, AddressOf GetSetting
When I try and remove the handlers:
RemoveHandler _gisCtrl.SetSettingEvent, AddressOf SetSetting
RemoveHandler _gisCtrl.GetSettingEvent, AddressOf GetSetting
SetSetting is OK but GetSetting throws a warning:
The AddressOf expression has no effect in this context because the method arguments to AddressOf requires a relaxed conversation to the delagate type of the event.
Here are the methods
[Code] .....
How to fix this and why it is thrown in the first place? The 2 delegates/events/methods look similar enough that I don't know why one is OK and one throws a warning.

Scroll to the bottom, EDIT 19 onwards. See @Chris's comments also for good examples
[code]...
It's all gone quiet since Edit 19ish and @Chris reinforcing the issue with a good example (thank you Chris). I'll make the question a little easier (and attempt to tidy up all of the above), can anyone prove this is not an MS bug or similar? It seems to be something under the hood is not correctly wired up for VB.Net with regards to Nullable Structures and Events? However, all other cases using the Nullable Structures does appear to work?

Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(Function() UpdateApplicationDataUI())

However, I get an error in the call to BeginInvoke (the UpdateApplicationDataUI portion of the delegate is stating "Expression does not produce a value").

AddressOf expression cannot be converted to 'Integer' because 'Integer' is not a delegate type
My declaration for SetWindowLong is:

ByVal hWnd As Integer,
ByVal nIndex As Integer,[code]....

I have a delegate and its event in C# as below:
public delegate UsernameCredentials UsernameRequiredEventHandler( object sender, string endpoint );
public event UsernameRequiredEventHandler UsernameRequired;
On Converting the above code in VB.Net as follow :
Public Delegate Function UsernameRequiredEventHandler(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal endpoint As String) As UsernameCredentials
Public Event UsernameRequired As UsernameRequiredEventHandler
I am getting error on the above line saying that "Events cannot be declared with a delegate type that has a return type".I understand that this is not supported in VB.Net.

While reading this threadthe code sample there came from MSDN, which was used to demonstrate the use of a delegate. I know what Delegates are. And I know how they work when it comes to things like crossing threads and even sinks.... how ever, the sample given is a simplecontrived example, and I'm wondering why/when would I use a delegate in this situation? Or in any situation? In my head, it seems it would have been easier/cleaner to call the function pointed to directly...
