Get A Timer That Runs A Process Every 31.25 Milliseconds?
Mar 3, 2011
I'm in need of a timer that runs a process every 31.25 milliseconds. Thus, after 768 "ticks" have gone exactly 24 seconds. The control "Timer" that exists in Visual Studio does not accept decimal values. So I had to round the value of the range to 31 or 32. But this raises a problem since the end of the 768 ticks there is a difference of half a second or more. And I need to run the 768 ticks in exactly 24 seconds.I've been researching, and I read some things about the "High-Resolution Timer. " But I did not understand exactly how to use it, and how to set your interval to 31.25 mils, and do that every period of this interval to run the code.

I im trying to set a time so that the user of my quiz has to do their 20 questions in 40 minutes. i actually have a few questions about the timer. How do you make it so that you canrun this same timer over everyform and then make it stop on the last form? is it possible for you to convert the timer so that instead of it running in milliseconds it runs in minutes?

I wrote an application that have two timers, one of them (timer_poll) when the ticks event i change the enable to false in order to execute a code. this code writes an information in a COM, and after recieved the information from the COM from a Funtion I change the Enable property for the timer_poll to enable again but it have neve run again.the timer_poll_tick_1 does not start again, i activate a breckpoint, I can confirm that the timer_poll.enable=true because i put a button on the application that on its click event it shows me tha properties of the timer_poll, like this:
MsgBox(
CStr(timer_poll.Interval) + "|" + CStr(timer_poll.Enabled))
here is the code of the timer_poll_tick_1
Private Sub timer_poll_Tick_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles timer_poll.Tick
timer_poll.Enabled =

I am trying to make a timer that beeps 3-5 times and runs a progress bar. All it has to do is click start (timer set for 2 minutes starts) and as time runs out the progress bar fills. When the time is up 3-5 beeps happen. I am missing the coding for the 3-5 beeps and design parts for it and all coding for that along with code for setting the 2 minute timing. There is no label for telling the time left or to go just a progress bar. Here is my code so far.

I'm using a Threading.DispatcherTimer and every tick of the timer runs a subroutine. Is it possible that if the subroutine takes longer then 1s for the processor to finish that it will mess up the time of the timer that is counting in seconds?

This causes the program to immediately delete the batch file before it can run. How can I break it up so that it won't delete the batch file until after it has finished?

I develop an appliaction which is running a process in the background. This process is "forked" from the application (I'm not using threads). The process may take a few minutes while the 'father' application is waiting to the process output, so I'd like to enhance the application with the following:
a) a "Stop" button (like in IE, FireFox) to stop the process in background
b) A status bar that displays what's going on while the process is running in BG.
how to draw a button or status bar of course... I mean how VB.NET handle with stopping or displaying while something else is running in background and how to do it.

When i push the close button on the top right of the exe i made, the process still runs. How can i make it to where when i close the exe it closes the process too? Also, (this is for shits and giggles) if i wanted to make a button that closed certain processes, what would the code be? For example, the button would close explorer.exe, googledesktop.exe, ect.

I am confused what will happen, when I disable a timer. Will it finish the process and then disable or will it immediately disable without completing process? for example
[Code]....
I want to run getMessage from somewhere else, so I need to disable timer during that time to be asured not to override anything and also before timer disable it should complete that function code.

I am trying to block a list of processes from Txt file/ Listbox System.Diagnostic.Process using Timer. Here's the timer codes
[Code]...
I can block processes from the list using SelectedItem, but it doesn't block all the process in the list.Using while loop causes a deadlock error here. I'm now using aBlock.ReadLine to read from txt file and block the available process. However it is only able to block the first process. Need some guidance to get this code to block all the processes in the list.

I have a VB Windows App created using VS2K10. It produces pdf files from SQL data. The SQL data is refreshed every 10 minutes pulling from a DB2 (ERP) system via a Linked Server by a SQL DTS package being run by SQL Job Agent (SQL 2005). Because of OLEDB and security issues, the data download can only be performed by a specific Windows 2003 server. (It takes from 2-3.5 minutes to download the necessary data.)
Now, if the process of creating and printing the PDF files takes longer than 6 minutes then it's still running while the next data download is starting, the result of which is that several PDF files are created blank or absent any data. I tried to execute the DTS package on demand instead of on a timer, but cannot get past the OLEDB quirks related to our iSeries (IBM server) DB2 database system. The only answer seems to be to have the client application pause at a specific time interval and resume after @ 4 minutes, but I haven't a clue as to how to do that. Before you ask, using ODBC to pull specific data from the DB2 system directly into the client is too slow to be a viable option.

I am trying to make a Process Estimator application. It should tell the user how fast hes computer is. The output should be the number to calculate to and how much time did it take in mili-seconds (timer interval set to 100). I enable the timer before it starts calculating, but the problem is when it start calculating the timer stops for some reason...
This is the
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
TextBox2.Text = CInt(TextBox2.Text) + 1

I'm working on a client application (server is out of my control) that connects to a server and exchanges query/command datagrams. 'Milliseconds Count!' according to my project specification, meaning that the more we can shave off a send/receive process the better.
I understand that there are physical limitations like network bandwidth, internet latency, etc. Even so, I have a strong gut feeling that a lot of the latency I'm seeing is directly related to processing; it seems 'out of phase' from the latency of other network operations (albeit with significantly smaller datagrams). IE: A standard 32 byte Windows Ping returns in about 5ms consistently, our query/response datagram (468 bytes out, 1500 bytes back) returns in about 15ms consistently.
I'm also working with multiple threads to speed things up as much as possible at the client side, and it seems the more threads are involved the more latency is generated (I've seen up to 70ms of additional lag when using 3 threads as opposed to 2). In a recent Google I found something that I only glanced at, that said something about a limitation in Windows System Timing where some claim was made that any System.TimeSpan < 10ms was effectively going to be a 10ms Timespan because the Windows System Clock only 'Ticks' every 10ms. I wasn't paying attention at the time, but now I'm afraid it might be relevant and I can't find it again.

I have a value which is milliseconds, I did some experimenting, and with my very limited math skill I came up with this:
Dim val = _Memory.ReadValueFromAddress(hProcess, timer_addr, 4)
Dim seconds = val / 60 Mod 60
Dim minutes = val / 60 / 60
I don't even know what will happen when the hour counts down,
