im doing a word search puzzle and let's say i have ten words and 400 buttons with its text and name unchanged. can i know how to get random alphabets to the buttons? or better still have the 10 words appear in the puzzle.

I started out with a single table DB named 'Contacts', with very simple structure e.g. Title, FullName, SurName, Email, Phone, Address etc.I'm using LINQ as my Model.In my main view I wanted to display a list of alphabets that have matching FullNames starting with that alphabet plus the count of FullNames. Someting similar as shown below:
A - (2)
D - (4)
J - (1)
and so on.One particular thing about the display is that i don't want to display those alphabets that have no names starting with them.I tried a couple of queries but didn't succeed.

View 7 RepliesI have a piece of software with two tabs, inside each tab there are buttons (the user can add the buttons when they want). when tab1 is full tab2 should start to fill. I currently know how many buttons fit on the screen so I just say something like if buttons > 150 then start to populate tab 2 The problem i have now though is if the resolution is changed then a different amount of buttons can be displayed. so if I put my screen to 1280x720 some buttons are left of. I was thinking of detecting the resolution and then using different cases for different resolutions but this seems very inefficient im wondering if there is a different way?

I've read numerous posts and threads about random number generation, but I havent' run across this.If I generate a bunch of random numbers, the results are radically different if I create a new Random generator for each number than if I use on Random generator for all the numbers. The results are much more consistent and evenly distributed if I use the same Random generator.I would have thought the opposite,because creating a new Random generator each time should reduce the number of random repetitions, if a different time slice is used to create the random number.[code]......

I wanna give the following instruction to the people: press these buttons in the following order: first buttonA, then buttonB, then buttonC and last buttonD. If they obey this instruction then a picture will be displayed, for instance a happy face. All the other combinations will not activate this picture to be displayed, or in other words, there won't be any consequence. View 1 RepliesThe class Random is out right defective. It always produces the same random numbers in the same sequence. Things I have tried so far is every kind of seed you can think of as well as Randomize. The result is that I always get the same random numbers in exactly the same sequence.
View 4 RepliesI am practicing using the drawing commands, and have gotten a grass background and black happy face that moves around the background.It's a 10x10 grid of 50 pixels.I want (at the moment, when i press enter) it to generate a random number of trees (15 ~ 25) at random locations on the background. The program doesn't freak out about anything, and the variables seem to be right (using stop commands) but it's not drawing anything. i need to get some buttons to interact with other buttons on screen when i click then, as each indivual button gives a slightly different result.imagine this:[code]....
then i need then to hide different buttons depending on which button was pressed. so say i pressed button 1 then all the buttons showed but alternativly if i had of pressed 2 then say button 5 and 6 disapear.managed to get one way to work but then i would only ever end up with the first results every time.
My VB application is behaving strangley. I have form with fairly large number of controls. I am using case against radio buttons. after curtain number of buttons, it stops responding to more radio buttons.
Then I tried to split controls in to 2 form but now my form.showdialog() too now working properly. It takes new from names but show the old form when running.
i have 4 different handles buttons with code how can i connect them in another "general button" that will make the 4 buttons to work with one click
View 3 RepliesI don't take programming lessons at school or anything, and I'm starting to (try to) teach myself about random things.Currently I'm making an app that has 3 functions:
-Random Integer (1 to 100)
-Random Answer (Yes or No, similar to a coin flip)
-Random Dice Roll (1 to 6)
How would I go about doing this?At the moment all I know about random numbers etc. is that I will need to do something along the lines of Dim dice As New Random or something like that, but, like I mentioned, I have no idea.I am well aware of the DIC rules that you won't write the code for me/do my "homework(?)" for me, and that's not what I'm asking.
