Get The 'Enter' Key To Behave Like The Tab Key In A Combobox Control
Jan 12, 2011
I'm trying to get the 'Enter' key to behave like the tab key in a combobox control. I've placed the following code in the keypress event: If e.KeyChar = ToChar(Keys.Enter) Then NextTextBox.Focus()End If When ran, nothing happens. I've placed a break point at the 'private sub' line, and the code is not breaking. What am I doing wrong?
I have a combobox on an Excel worksheet that I can tab into, then pick my data (located on another worksheet) after activating the "arrow". But the tab or enter key does not allow me to navigate away from the cell after it is populated. The only action that allows the user to move to another cell is by mouse/click to another cell. I am trying to make navigation through though worksheet as user friendly as possible.I can't seem to find any sample code that will take the focus away from that cell using Tab or Enter.
I have no problem with ListBoxes created using the Data Validation method but I have to create a ComboBox control on the active worksheet in order to return the data chosen (in this case a code that corresponds to a description). If this was a Form I wouldn't have any problem as the properties would allow me to set that up, but this is essentially a spreadsheet I've inherited and the current users do not want to go to a Data Entry Form.
I need to create a menu bar (similar to VB6) for my ASP.NET application.
What I don't need is a standard navigation menu bar (plenty of those out there). I'm not redirecting to a different page. What i do need is a menubar that will behave similarly to a VB6 menu, or ASP.NET button control. I have to postback and execute some VB code (depending on what menu item the user selected).
1. I type the first letter of the username i want in the combobox text area, the combobox drops down and shows me all the usernames starting with that letter. I scroll down to the name i want (as i scroll down, the text area holds each name but the SelectedIndexChanged event does not fire each time), then hit the Tab key, the SIC event fires and i get the result i want.
2. I do the same as above, but instead of hitting Tab key, i hit the Enter key. The same thing happens and i get the result i want.
3. This time, i first click on the dropdown arrow of the combobox such that it shows all usernames starting from the first name. I then type the first letter of the name i want. I saw that another drop down appeared in front of the first one and it was a smaller subset of names starting with the typed letter. I scroll down this smaller dropdown to the name i want (here also, as i scroll down, the text area holds each name, and the SIC event doesnt fire each time), then hit the Tab key, the SIC event fires and i get the result i want.
4. I do the same as #3, but this time i hit the Enter key instead of Tab key. But this time, the combobox text blanks out and the SIC event is not fired (although the name showed up just before i hit the Enter key). So i do not get any results back.
I have some subs that I use that I could make more universal if I could have a ComboBox variable so to speak. Me.ComboBoxCMFrac.SelectionStart = Me.ComboBoxCMFrac.Text.Length
For the above code is there a way to enter a variable that could be set to whatever ComboBox you wanted. I tried Dim ObjectComboBox As Object ObjectComboBox = ComboBoxCMFrac ObjectComboBox.SelectionStart = ObjectComboBox.text.length
It doesn't accept that in the editor but I'm showing you what I would like to do. If there's no way to do it fine but if there is a way I'd like to know how.
I'm designing a Windows Forms Application, and there is a dialog that should NOT exit when the enter key is pressed, instead it has to validate data first, in case enter was pressed after changing the text of a ComboBox. I've tried by telling it what to do on KeyPress event of the ComboBox if e is the Enter key:
[Code]...
But no success so far. When the Enter key is pressed, even with the ComboBox on focus, the whole dialog is closed, returning to the previous form. The validation is NOT done at all, and it has to be done before exiting. In fact, I don't even want to exit on the form's enter KeyPress, the only purpose of the enter key on the whole dialog is to validate the ComboBox (but only when in focus, for the sake of an intuitive UI). I've also tried appending the validation to the KeyPress event of the whole dialog's form, if the key is Enter. NO SUCCESS! It's like my code wasn't there at all.
I know the answer to this is out there somewhere, but my Google isn't being much help on this one. I am trying to make my combobox run an event when the enter key is pressed. Here is my code.
Private Sub CmbQuery_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles CmbQuery.KeyPress If e.KeyChar = Chr(13) Then SearchEvent() End If End Sub
I didn't think this would be a problem, but it appears that others also search for this solution. There is an annoying DING! when hitting the Enter key in a ComboBox in VB.Net so I sought solutions. Here is the solution I am working with. I created a new seperate Class within my Project...
Public Class ClasscboBox Inherits ComboBox
[CODE]...
Looks good, but I am having a problem calling it from the main project. Here is what I have tried using...
Dim objcboBox As New ClasscboBox objcboBox.OnKeyPress(KeyPressEventArgs)
However, it says thatKeyPressEventArgs is a Type and cannot be used as an Expression. I tried 'e' but no go. I am a little ahead of my classes (no pun intended) so I am likely missing something about what I am doing wrong.
I have three comboboxes so I though this would best suit my needs in the interests of writting decent code and not populating each call with repeating code.
I am Working VB.NET 08 Windows Appl.I Have Combobox and DataGridView in the Form.In the Combobx Having Names list Called "SurName".In The DataGridView on of the Column is "SurName".So when change the data on the Combobx list the dataGridView is Filtering and displaying the values correctly. For this i wrote a code in Select IndexChanged or SelectionCommitedChange Event.
But now my task is when i Type the text in the Combobox the related data should be filter in the DataGridView. If i type any letter in the Combbox the datagridview rows starts filter.
For Ex: Names are like 'Mali', 'Malu','Maal','Mouli'.
If i type 'M' letter in the Combobox then 4 rows Filter in the DataGridView. If i Type 'Ma' then 3 rows , If i type 'Mal' then 2 rows, If i type 'Mali' then 1 row.
I have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.
I am converting projects from C# to Visual Basic, and the namespaces in VB.NET behave in a weird way. There is some kind of hidden default namespace, and it's annoying. I want it to behave identical to C#, which works as expected - things go into the namespaces you create for them.
I've been getting around it usually with say
using MyClassLibrary;in C#, and in VB Imports MyClassLibrary Imports MyClassLibrary.MyClassLibrary
but it would be nice to have the functionality the same, and also logical. The other bigger problem is, I have a .tt file, and the C# project generates the code in a different namespace to the VB one.
Is there some solution to make both behave identically with regards to namespaces?
I created Dataentry forms. In the form there are so many controls like DropDowns and textboxes. I am using Access database. Now I enterd the few records into the controls, and these records are saved into the Database. But now if i enter the any data which i recently saved in the database to the textbox or any other control then the remaining controls should be display the related data.
For example i have 4 controls in my form one is dropdown and 3 are textboxes. If i select the data in the dropdown then the remaining 3 textboxes shows the related data. How can i dispaly the corresponding data to the other controls?
I am using the follwoing code to generate Menustrip at runtime. Dim dgv1 As DataGridView dgv1 = Me.MenuDataGridView ReadMenuInGridView(dgv1) Dim MItems As New SortedList(Of String, ToolStripMenuItem) For Each dgr As DataGridViewRow In dgv1.Rows [Code] .....
Where the sub "ReadMenuInGridView" passes the DGV by reference and populates it with the menu item from the database. My question is,, the program as it is in the form listed above works fine (where I have a DGV "MenuDataGridView" created at design time), however, if I want to make it 100% dynamic and use a DGV created at run time I will not get the menu? Actually the program will not get in to the For loop?
Simply to do that we can replace the first 2 statement with: Dim dgv1 As New DataGridView 'dgv1 = Me.MenuDataGridView
I have created ~ 9,000 desktop.ini files, using VB code shown at
[URL]
My goal was to assign an icon to each folder of a set of folders. My problem is that the created desktop.ini files seem to behave erratically: some folders display their assigned icon, some do not.I verified that all folders and assigned icons exist.
This questions is for VBers, it's irrelevant in C#.
In VB, when you create a module, all it's fucntions and members are available in the scope without need to type the module name, just like all the VB functions (Rnd, Mid, IIf etc.).
I want to create a module but I should have to explicitly write it's name to access it's members, i.e. it shouldn't be loaded to the scope like a namespace.
Update
For example, I have a Module of extension methods, I don't want all it's members to show up on the scope and in the intellisense.
I want it to be available only by instance.ExtensionMethod().
I was bored and decided to write a small program around the built in web browser control in VB2008 because all my other browsers eat up more ram than i like xDbut one thing i can not figure out is how to get the URL from the web browser control to enter into a text box (the address bar).I have tried using Private URL As String URL = WebBrowser1.UrlBut i keep getting this errorValue of type 'System.Uri' cannot be converted to 'String'Help?
way to "reset" a tooltip, so you don't have to leave and re-enter a control to make it pop? I have a form that is pretty much entirely taken up by one control. I want to have its ToolTip text change based on which region of the control is being hovered over (which I can do now). I just have to leave the control and re-enter it to make it pop. I'd like to have the Tooltip pop, then if I move the mouse to a different location (still inside the control's bounds) have it pop-able again in the new spot.
How do I handle the event of pressing the keyboard's Enter Key in a VS2008 Visual Basic application?I have a Textbox control (Textbox1) and a label control (Label1) as the only items on my form, I want the Text in textbox1 to be copied to label1 when I press the keyboard's Enter Key . I used the following code:
Private Sub TextBox1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyPress
I would like to make the Tab movement can also pressing the "Enter" Key. I have google and found the code which possible to used. But I found its not running fine with me. When I press "Enter" key,it runs fine for the tab movement. But if I put something into my textbox,it only allowed me to put 1 character and it will move next. Because the Textbox 2 can able to put in any kind of numbers. But after add in the code that allowed "Enter" key move the Tabindex,it will move to the next tab index after I lick 1 character.
Code: Private Sub TextBox2_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles TextBox2.KeyPress If Keys.Enter Then SendKeys.Send("{TAB}") [Code] ..... How should I do to make the "Enter" key press work as tab?
I'm developing with VB.NET 2008.One of my host was crashed, so I take the files and keep development on another host. But now something strange is happening:All frames, lines and shapes are disappeared on design-time, but are seen normally in runtime.
I am developing a windows desktop application and I am using vb.net 2008 Now I have 5 datagridviewcheckboxescoloumns and i want them to behave like radio button. How can i accomplish it. I made lots of search on internet to solve this problem but i couldn't so far. Actually if i had two coloumns it wont be problem i can handle it.
I want to implement a password text box that will behave like the one we see in Windows 7 (ie, when there is no user input, then it will display a string 'Enter password', and when the user press any key, this string is cleared). I tried all the events like 'TextChanged', KeyPress', etc., but failed to get the result.
We have a multi-line control that we are attempting to prevent the Enter/Return key from being used to create a new line.Strangely enough, "AcceptsReturn" as False does not prevent this.So we added the following:
Private Sub txtAddr_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtAddr.KeyPress If e.KeyChar = Microsoft.VisualBasic.ChrW(13) Then e.Handled = True End If End Sub
This works fine, however one of the QA people discovered hitting Control + Enter still puts in a newline. How would we prevent this? And why does AcceptsReturn being False not work as it appears it should? What is the intended purpose of it?
In reading various answers regarding "masked TextBox Control, am I to assume that the masked textBox control uses a mask to determine what characters the user can enter into the control?
I am making a program that uses the datagridview control for making the sales invoice and I want to add direct values from textbox control to datagridview. But the problem is I am not getting the row, col index properly and if I use: dgv.item(0,dgv.rowcount -1).value=textbox1.text Then the value goes to the 1st col and 1st row. When I use dgv.rows.add() then value goes down to last row of the dgv control.
