View 2 RepliesI need to detect if a [blank] media (CD/DVD) is inserted into the D: drive for an internal software I'm writing. The drive is static as drive D:. How can I tell if media is inserted, first off, and secondly, is it possible to tell if it's blank?
View 2 RepliesI have a USB flash drive I want to be able to plug into another computer and automatically start the program as soon as it is plugged in and started up, is there a way to do this?
View 8 RepliesI have a function that copies files from a CD to my HDD:CopyFiles(CD_Drive, FullPath & "")
The problem is that the Drive letter "I:" is not consistent. Sometimes when I connect and disconnect external devices, the CD Drive letter changes and then my code doesn't work unless I open the project, change the letter "I" and recompile.What code can I use that will ALWAYS detect my CD Drive, regardless of the drive letter? (Like for instance, NERO will detect and burn CDs regardless of the drive letter)
dp.SyntaxHighlighter.ClipboardSwf = '/dp.SyntaxHighlighter/Scripts/clipboard.swf'
dp.SyntaxHighlighter.HighlightAll('4e1b98200b534bcfb11430c4ef5e5987')
I'm trying to create a Windows Explorer like application, when a flash drive is connected/disconnected the application detects it and does some stuff. This is what I've accomplished so far:
Code:
Private Const WM_DEVICECHANGE As Integer = &H219
Private Const DBT_DEVICEARRIVAL As Integer = &H8000
Private Const DBT_DEVICEREMOVECOMPLETE As Integer = &H8004
[Code]....
One thing that this code does not do is detect when the driver changes from ready to not ready, e.g. if a CD is removed/ inserted into the optical drive or a memory card is removed/inserted into the card reader. How can I accomplish that?
How do you detect the home drive(where windows is installed)
View 1 RepliesI am making a program that will allow a user to use any USB flash drive as a key, that when inserted, will automatically (upon validation, of course) enter login and password data into web forms, applications, and maybe even Windows Logon. But first things first: how to I detect when a USB key is inserted into the drive, for instance, perhaps just detect the last/latest inserted drive?
In addition, does anyone know if there is a way to directly identify a flash drive, maybe based on a serial number?, rather than validating it from a file on the device?
I need to detect if a file exists within drive C: but I do not know in advance in which directory it should be located so this means that I have to search the entire disk. Is there a way to perform this process directly (through an existing method for example) or do I have to write code for getting the directory structure and search each directory?
View 3 RepliesI have made this program in which the user selects a number of directories and copies them all to an external drive. is there a way to detect when the user does something that involves writing data to the hard drive. When they do, I want my application to detect this and back up that file on the external drive as well so that the back up is always up to date.

i have here a code for my back up:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim dbload As String = Application.StartupPath + "\Enrollment System.accdb"

It might not be the best and i'm currently finishing on adding certain features, commenting it fully and possibly tutorializing it, but if ur needing an object to detect drive connections and disconnections and a lil more, here ya go. This dll is "Events 'R' Us" It also contains some simple public functions - findDrives(driveType) will find on command all of a specific drive type and return a dictionary of values - byteConverter and getMB, getGB, etc..
will convert bytes to larger metric values - getPercentage will simply get percentage of 2 figures and return as decimaland i'll give away more soon, just wanna get this out now, see if anyone has any use for it, almost every thing that can error has an error event and thus far i can only get one to fire (if usb is pushed in and pulled out really fast over and over again, i know where it fires, it's no biggie at moment)
I am doing a little project to get better at my Vb while I am outside of class and I am making a launcher that lanuches my games from my external harddrive. Now I want it to auto find what the Harddrive is mounted to Like in my Code below this is what I have so far:
If CheckBox1.Checked = True Then
Process.Start("u:\Games\Generals\generals.exe")
ElseIf CheckBox3.Checked = True Then
Process.Start("u:\Games\Counter-Strike Source\Launcher.exe")
ElseIf CheckBox5.Checked = True Then
[Code] .....
But Instead of having to go into ym actual Code and Changing it from U: to what ever my drive has mounted to on another computer and have it automaticly find what its mounted to and update my code accordingly.
I have a remote database that will be accessed through a client program. The thing is, I want the client to auto detect the IP Address of the machine where the database is located, so that when I initialize the value of my connection string it would be like this:
Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\AutoDetectedIpAddressfoldermyDatabase.mdb;User Id=admin;Password=;
In that way, the client program will automatically connect to the remote database whatever the IP Address of the machine where the remote database is.
I want to be able to create a VB application that is on a flash drive and will run as soon as I insert the flash drive into a computer.

View 11 Repliesi am pulling together a cash register that will allow both bar code product entry and manual key entry.imagine if you have a tin of beans in front of you, in a small corner shop they would probably type "47" and then hit "Produce". Fairly straight forward as I have the button Produce to act upon my code and update my salestrans.mdb but,if you scan the bar code I want the same form to handle both 'real' actions, (i assume that keyboard emulation barcode scanner includes "ENTER" after providing 13 digits)....
Q. in perhaps a long winded way i want to know how to kick off an event based on the "ENTER" key being activiated by the barcode scanner)?i do not want to have to hit any buttons if i am scanning bar codes.
I'm running the following WMI script to get the associations between drive letters and physical drives on the system, but for some reason it omits CDROMs/DVD-ROMs. Can someone tell me how to get those as well?
Code:
ComputerName = "."
Set wmiServices = GetObject _
("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=Impersonate}!//" & ComputerName)
Set wmiDiskDrives = wmiServices.ExecQuery _
("SELECT DeviceID FROM Win32_DiskDrive")

I have a program that allows the user to enter a drive letter into a text box. The program then takes the letter and find the physical drive number (i.e. deviceharddisk3..). It then stripes out everything and leaves me with the number 3.
In VB6 I used mDrive.bas from vbAccelerator.com and it worked perfectly. I have been all over the internet and back and cannot find a solution written in VB.NET.
I want to make a tool that will assign a USB pen drive a drive letter, I am using WMI to acknowledge the device being plugged in, I can pull the deviceID, name, etc now I just need to work out how to assign the device to a drive and I just cant figure it out
View 4 RepliesThe drive is connected via USB and the problem I'm having is that, periodically, while my code is executing, the usb drive seems to disconnect and reconnect. (Nothing to do with the program, but the drive itself).I want to find a way to prevent these temporary drive reconnects from interrupting my code. IE, i want to insure that whatever read or write that is requested is actually executed even in the case of a temporary drive interruption.
View 1 RepliesDoes anyone know if there is a way to determine if a drive is local or a network drive?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to get the physical drive (device) number from the drive letter. If the user inputs the drive letter C the program will find the associated physical device number. For example if I input C then the result needs to be \Device\HardDrive1\... Some call it NT Device Name; I think. I have the code for VB6 from vbAccelerator, which works perfectly, but it does not work in VB.NET. My question is there a simple way of pulling the drive info that contains the drive letter and the physical device number. I have searched the internet and found nothing for VB.NET. I would post code but I have nothing for .NET.

View 14 RepliesI have a program I am converting from VB6 to VB.NET and I am stuck at the very last piece of code. I need to determine what physical device number is associated with the drive letter.
The program takes the drive letter from a text box and goes and finds the device number (i.e. deviceharddrive3...) and strips out everything leaving me with the devicer number; in this case the number 3. I have searched the internet to and fro and found nothing in VB.NET.
My program in VB6 uses a .bas module from vbaccelerator.com called mDrive.bas and works great. I can't figure out how to convert it over to VB.NET.
First off a short background of the project I am working on- I am developing a program that will be run off removable media (i.e. USB Flash drive). This will be a virtual desktop which you will be able to take with you and have the same desktop on any system. As we know drive letters can change with each host system the drive is plugged into, I need to be able to determine the path for the flash drive and access a specific folder ( i.e. My Documents)
I have an picture box(representing the icon) placed on my form (form1) and when I click the icon I want to be able to open and view the a specific folder from the portable drive. I need a click event that will determine a dynamic drive letter for a directory on the removable drive and then open that directory in an explorer window.

I want to make an application that allows you to format a drive.My application consists of a combo box (so user can select drive) and a format button to format the selected drive.
I would like to know is this possible and if so how?
is there any way to find out the hard drive that windows is installed in? (local drive?)
