View 2 RepliesWell guyz its been a long time since my last post here but i got some troubles with a new project i am on and the members of vbforums always had the solution So as the title says i want to make a launcher that will sync 2 folders and some files from my Website to my local HDD. Something like that with Api s

[code] I want that service synchronizes time with server at specific time of day but i can not get this work.
View 1 Repliesattaching the source of the service which is bothering me.This is the part of the code which is the pain in the ass:
Public Class NucDTSync
Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args() As String)
Timer1.Interval = 60000

i'm interested in syncing a remote folder and a local one over FTP but I don't want to use 3rd party components since this is not going to be a public build so I see no reason to invest on something like this now any code snippets or so available? PS. remote folder includes folders also that can change so I want to keep an update of the remote folder on my PC.
View 3 RepliesAfter being spoiled for years with C# automatically setting the default namespace for new classes to match my folder structure, I'm wondering if there is any way to get VB.NET to do the same?
I've been aware for awhile that it doesn't do this automatically but I've never really researched alternatives. keep my VB.NET class namespaces in sync with my project folder structures?
I am working on a program using VB.Net 2010 which will enable me to setup groups of files & folders for back up with syncing capabilities etc. I have a concept program which is based on some sample code I found out in one of the VB.Net forums. I have modified it from a command line based program to a form based program. At the moment I consider this code to be a "concept" program which once I have the various copy/sync routines developed and debugged will be integrated in to another program I wrote for
creating "Back Up" groups to automate the process. There are some 3rd party programs that do similar things that I want to do such as Microsofts Sync Toy, but none of them offer the grouping and exclusions options that I am going to program in to this backup/sync program.
So here is my problem, I have the included code taking two folders, a source and a destination, and copying everything from the source to the destination. It will skip over any unchanged files/folders and will delete anything found in the destination folder that is not found in the source folder and it will update all files in the destination folder that have a newer version in the source folder. In other words it will mirror image the source to the destination but will be smart enough not to copy unchanged items from the source to the destination thereby saving a lot of time. The sync part of the program is working fine, the displaying of the progress and results is not.

I have the following windows service file:
Imports System.ServiceProcess
Imports System.IO
Public Class fswService
[Code].....
2 problems: first, intellisense error saying: 'fswService' is a type and cannot be used as an expression. second, I can not figure out a way to pass on to the service the path of the folder to watch (which is stored at My.Settings.userPath).
how to keep track a folder and trigger events if any new files saved into that folder , if any we are supposed to perform actions and manipulate that file ( recently came ) and then convert it to PDF file then move it to another folder if action has been successfully done delete the file from source folder and store it as PDF in the second folder...
View 4 RepliesI am trying to work on a service where I need to export a report into a folder under the service project and email it to the user. The delete the report when complete. The issue I am having is I need to know how to access a folder under the project. I know you can use System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory to get into the bin where the excuting file is but I want to get to a folder is this possible? If not is there a way of creating the folder under the bin directory and accessing it. I can manually create a folder under the bin but didnt really want to do that.
View 1 RepliesI have written a VB.NET (2005) service that is using My.Application.Log to write log entries to a FileLogTraceListener. I have configured the Listener in app.config to write the log file to the executable file's directory by using
location="ExecutableDirectory"
When the service runs, it writes log entries just fine, but they are not in the executable file's folder, but rather in Documents and SettingsLocalServiceApplicationData....1.0.0.0mylog.log
Why is the location parameter not being honored?
Here is the complete system.diagnostics section from my app.config.

Has any one used BITs in VB.NET? If so, do you have code samples? I was looking at SharpBits but I have a VB project that I wanted to use BITS for. Is it possible to use it with my VB.NET program? (.NET 2.0) I was tempted to try to convert each class to VB.NET in the SharpBits.Base folder but figured I'd ask in case someone has headed down this route before.
In case you run across this question. What you can do is in the Sharpbits.Base folder (that you download from codeplex) there is a DLL you can reference in the Bin directory. You can add that into your references to access it. Marking Konrad as answer since he was kind enough to post.
I managed to get sharpbits working with some quick code which I pasted below for anyone who might stumble upon this question. Like I mentioned above add the DLL to your project.
Dim b As New SharpBits.Base.BitsManager
Dim mynewjob As SharpBits.Base.BitsJob = _
b.CreateJob("jobname", SharpBits.Base.JobType.Download)
mynewjob.AddFile("\servershareigfile.zip", "c:igfile.zip")
mynewjob.Resume()
You'll need to write some logic to check for the status of the job. Once it hits "Transferred" status you can then mark it as complete. This will write the file from a .bin to the file name you listed. Something that helped me was installing the Windows Support Tools (you can get it from a Windows 2003 Cd/DVD in the sup tools folder)and using Bitsadmin.exe to view the status of the job while debugging.
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a
generic class and is not marked as
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be
exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit
interface as the default interface to COM using the
ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
I have a VB2008 application which can control a windows service i.e. start, stop, pause etc. This runs ok on a Windows XP machine but not on a Win 7 machine (message is - Service error cannot open <service name> service on computer '.') ( if I stop the UAC then it runs ok ). It seems to be a rights issue,
View 3 RepliesI have created a Windows service in VS 2005 that monitors a folder for XML files, reads some data elements from the XML using XmlDocument, then copies the files to another location. I find that when I drop 2 or more XML files into the folder simultaneously, it processes them with no problems, but when I drop the same files into the folder one at a time, I will get an error on the second file: "The process cannot access the file <my file> because it is being used by another process." If I stop my service, restart it, and drop the second file into the folder again, it works the second time. I am confident that no other program is accessing this file at the same time as my service. My impression is that the processing of file # 1 is somehow not releasing all of the resources, leading to the processing of file # 2 mistakenly thinking that it can't access that second file.
Dim FileWatcher As New FileSystemWatcher()
It points the watcher to my folder, sets up an event handler, then enables the watching:
FileWatcher.Path = InputFolderPath

I have a windows application and a php web application(not connected to internet all times), eventually data add/remove/update can happen at either places. So data has to be synchronized every day or manually.
I have a small sqllite database file (less than 500K) in my end, and the php web app uses Mysql, the structures remain the same. I would like to have a update function in my windows app, which sends my sqllite database file directly to my webserver and then1. Php should read values from the sqllite database files insert some values into mysql from the uploaded file 2. Php should read values from the mysql database files and insert them to sqllite database file
and finally send them back to my windows client pc. I would like to use .net 2.0.Anyone has an idea to get the above done or a suggestion to make the sync easier will help me a lot. Give me light on how the architecture or design should be done to achieve this
I have a class that sends an email which i use sendasyc
SMTPServer.SendAsync(message, _message_id)
The result of the email is captured by the following code
Sub SendCompletedCallback(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As AsyncCompletedEventArgs)
Dim message_id As String = CType(e.UserState, String)
[Code]....
This works fine when the code is run within a form but when i move it into a dll calling it from a console app it neither sends emails nor picks up any errors.
Public Class Form1
Public elapsed_time As TimeSpan
Public start_time, stop_time As DateTime
Public txtBreak As String = "180"
[code]....
All the code needs to be controled by seperate timers as the user may need to pause timer3 or timer4 at any one time. The problem I have is that after about 5 minutes the time and elapsed time are about three seconds ahead of the two count down timers.
I'm just looking for an answer or idea.I plan to connect vb.net to mysql (which is done) and also the PHP connected to the mysql.But I'm confuse with something.VB.NET is use for offline things (which people will come to store and buy), but PHP is buying / booking online. (You know the airport things right ? customer can directly go to the airport and buy tickets or they can buy tickets from the internet)
For ex :Customer A come to airport and buy a ticket which is only left 1 tickets. Customer B wanted to buy from the internet. Both of them saw there is only left 1 tickets. So, both of them buying. When Customer A buy, the employee click buy at the same time with Customer B.In here, I'm confuse, how to declare which person should get the ticket because they click buy at the same time (server time because PHP and MySQL located to the server and vb.net applciation located to other PC/Machine) ?.
I have two comboboxes on my form and both are bound to the same datatable. The problem is that each time a value is selected from one combobox, the value in the other combobox changes to the value selected in the former. Is there anyway to disable this behaviour?Only performance counts!

View 5 RepliesHow can I sync 2 binding sources, both binding sources contain the same data(contactsbindingsource)I have 2 forms:1 form is a list of contact information the other is a search form.I have a linq querie in the search form that returns contact names to a datagridview, but I want to be able to double click on selected cell and have the relevant data appear on my first form.Also my first form has FK relationship to another form that contains company information, could this have something to do with it?
View 6 RepliesI am reading a lot in this forum about sync. It must be fantastic. I look a round for any tutorial, but I haven't found one. Let me tell me the story about the new program I want to write.I am working on a campsite in France. When there is a problem like a Mobilehome isn't clean. The person who is working on the reception write a note and the one how is going to fix it will be called. This is not a really good thing.I like to write an program in Visual Basic that allow the person who is working at the reception write the task in an program. This program will use a database to store the task. The person who is working at the campsite will see the task at his mobile phone (Windows mobile 6) He will fix the task and the reception can see in the application that the task is done.So I need a database who is synchronized whit the one in the mobile phone. The mobile phone can work offline and online. By online the database will be synchronized to the one in the reception.
View 1 RepliesI have a small "Clinic Application" that runs on two machines. (Receptionists & Doctors)
Same application is installed at both the computers, and they access the same SQL Server 2008 Data at a 3rd macine.
When the application is started, the local datasets are filled with the data from the 3rd machine (using tableadapter.fill).
Whenever the Receptionist adds a Patient in DataGrid,and saved it, it should show in Doctors DataGrid. and whenever Doctor adds something, the receptionists dataGrid should show it.
to accomplish this I have set a timer that keeps Filling datasets.
the task is successfully accomplished, but....
I have a new requirement to sync a DVR to an NTP server, but not sure how. I have googled and forum searched, but a lot is VB6 stuff and also for sync'ing a local computer's time. This requirement is for sync'ing time for a Digital Video Recorder on the network.

View 2 RepliesHow do you guys take control of a listbox in a form from another form? I could have sworn I've done this before but can't remember how or find any of my programs that did this. In form load i populate a listbox with a routine. I wish to call that routine again to refresh it from another form.
View 3 RepliesI'm writing a logging program that should log some values each 10 seconds, but I want these 10 seconds to be in sync with system clock e.g 8:32:00, 8:32:10, 8:32:20 e.t.c. One way to achieve this would be to use a timer with quite small interval like 0.2 seconds and do logging if the right time has come, but maybe there is a better way?
