If i have a DataGridView is it possible to insert the details of a selected row into another form to update?
I have 2 forms frmMain (where the datagrid is placed) and frmCustomer (this is where i want the selected Row details to be inserted, so i can update them)
how to display selected row from a datagridview to another form that records will be in textboxes..

I have a SQL 2008 database and I want to use Visual Basic 2010. what I want to do is bring up a form with a group of products for my company. Based on the users selection they will put a check mark next to the product and then submit the query/data filter/ selection.passing that information to another screen with the details of all the sales for that item.

View 6 RepliesI have a project in which i have a form in which there is add button to add pages. In form load the last entered page populates all the fields. Now thing is if user edits the values in controls it has to update the db with those fields and if the page doesn't exist in db it has to insert.

I initialized a global variable x and set its value to 0 in page load and in add button click to 1. Depending on x value it either inserts or updates the db in form closing and add button click. Now whats happening is If the user clicks on add button the page increments but if user doen;t enter any values and tries to close the empty form, value of x =1 and it tries to insert but as there are blank fields cmd.executenonquery throws an error.
"The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."
What should I do so that it doesn't give an error. I am using access db.I even checked in db Except for primary key(pageno) all other fields have "allow zero length" as YES & "required" to NO.

I have a home page, a products page, an orders page, an order confirm page, a shopping cart page and a view current orders page. The site uses an Access database with three tables. A Customer table, with all of the customer details, (FirstName, LastName, EmailAdd, CardNo, CardEx, SortCode, DeliveryAdd, Postcode) A Products table, with all the product information, (ProductID, ProductName, Price, ProductType, Images, ProductDescription). And an Orders table which contains CustomerID and ProductID. I'm trying to create an INSERT statement on the orders page so that when the customer inserts their details and presses the submit button the customers table will have a new record inserted. I also want this to create an entry in the orders table and redirect the client to the order confirm page which will display the details of the order. Here is my code which runs when the submit button is clicked on the order form. EDIT I've fixed the error with the missing apostrophe. Attempting to insert using two sql commands as I've been told that access databases can't handle two at once. Still getting an error though.

I have a weird requirement to parse a file which is a comma separated string with repeating header..i have a file which i load into database and this gets populated as a single column string with header and details data:something like this (This is single COLUMN String in a table). SSIS is not able to handle this so i am trying to know..If it is possible using writhing VB.Net custom component.[code]Also, if i can pass the values of header (i.e. header3, header5, header7 and header10) as a variable would be ideal.

The textboxes should be editable but for some reason are not registering the changes when the submit button is clicked.

I'm having an issue wherein after I run a search filtering a datagrid, the corresponding datadetails will not update anymore when a new item is selected in the datagrid.I would like it so after clicking an item in the datagrid, the details update automatically.

To clarify, the search itself filters the datagrid perfectly as intended....it just seems to stop the details from updating when new items are selected which is my problem.
I use a simple master-detail form using Visual basic 2005 express edition and ms sql server 2005 express edition, as well.
The master table is dept (deptno int, dname nvarchar(50)) .
The deail table is emp (empno int, deptno int, ename nvarchar(50)).
The primary key for the dept table is deptno and for the emp table is empno.
There is also a foreign key (deptno on emp table).
I created a new project, connected to a db (called test.mdf) and created a data source consisting the two of the above reffered tables.
I dragged and dropped these tables on the form and i noticed the following:
1)When the form opens... the system queries the database and displays the data on each block on the form.
2)I insert and/or update a record on the master table (dept) and everything goes well...
3)I try to insert and/or update a record on the detail table (emp) and nothing is changed on the detail table - without any error.
4)When i try to insert and/or update a record on the detail table (emp) which violates the primary key constraint or foreign key the system complaints...(as expected).
I have a gridview that is set to a sql datasource, it is generating the columns automatically. If I add a column to the table it is referencing, it will draw that column and display it, but it does not update the insert/update commands to include the new column. Is there any way have it rebuild those commands automatically?

I have a gridview in which when I click edit, update, and cancel button comes. I have a variable named status. If status=false then update should change to insert and if status=true then update should be update itself.

This is so even if there exit a relation between the two tables in the database and in the dataset between the data table. Can anyone provide me with some samples or examples of coding how to proceed?

I have a form called FrmPracDetails, which has details of practices and each practice has a unique prac_no populated on the form in the text box called TxtPracNo. Now, I have another form called FrmPayHistory. This form has a datagrid called DgvPayHistory, which is loaded with all the payment history of all practices. It has also a field called prac_no and stores the unique prac_no.
What I want to do is, when a user is in FrmPracDetails, lets say prac_no 1115, then you open the FrmPayHistory. Only the payment history of that respective prac_no should be seen. Presently, it brings all the practices and their payment history. I have added a textbox (TextBox1) in the FrmPayHistory which links and displays the prac_no from FrmPracDetails with the following code:
