Is it possible to install OCR only even without MS Office Applications installed on my machine? bacause I really need OCR for my application written in vb.net 2003. On the machines with MS Office 2003, it works fine but when I installed the application on my server, I can't preview the contents on my file like .docx, .xlsx, .pptx and .pdf files.
View 10 RepliesI have a very simple program that can run and work perfectly.The only trouble I have is when I install it.I double click the setup file that it created and a window is displayed with 2 buttons 'install' and don't 'install'.What I want it to do is run an installation wizard like when you install an offical program like 'Microsoft Office'.Is there any way to do this in 'Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition' if any other 'free' program is required then I would also be happy to use one.Here is a list of a few extra things I would like to do but I'm mainly posting to find out how to make the installation:

We have a vb 2008 app that references 2003 Office components to use for mail-merging to word.We loaded up our app in the vb environment today and were instantly greeted with missing components/functions which are related to the 2003 Office components. We can update these to use the Office 2007 components/functions instead, however we are unsure whether after doing this our vb app will work with machines only with Office 2003 on. can machines with Office 2003 on work with our vb app that references Office 2007 components?

Nos, i've got .NET 4 installed, and i've added the system.tsr and mscorlib.dll files as reference in, say, Excel 2007 (see screenshot).However, when i try to make a thread with anything as basic as "Dim Thread1 As System.Threading.Thread", i get a user-defined type not found error.Indeed, when i use the object browser to see what's in the System file, theres nothing remotely linked to any Threading, and in the mscorlib file, nothing under "Threading" either, just a few Thread related functions, but nothing defining a data type
I've developed shared addin for Microsoft Word. I distribute this addin with my application and using Inno setup for installation. The Inno setup installs my application and then runs "myAddin.msi" file in order to install addin.
how to uninstall this addin programatically?
Right now, in order to uninstall addin, the user has to to it manually through control panel.

View 1 RepliesI've made Add-in for Word 2007 in VS2005.It worked well with Word 2007 and now it works well with Word 2010 32 bit.However it doesn't work with Word 2010 64 bit. The installation is successful, but the ribbon button doesn't show up.

View 8 RepliesI have used VB.NET and Microsoft Offices Interop to create an application that will run on a server and will print files for different users.My problem is that I need to find a way to impersonate different users so that when MS Word opens and prints, the resulting print job is recorded under that user. I found this link that lets you run .net code as a different user - unfortunately it doesn't work with this code. The username recorded is still the user that is logged on the server.Code Removed by moderator. my vb experience is fairly limited - I've only used it when supporting legacy applications or for small tasks so apologies if what I'm asking seems simple. I wrote a small vb install script which creates a new folder on a users desktop, copies over relevant files from the install folder to the users new folder and creates a shortcut on the users desktop.
This works great for giving stuff to QA to test. However, there's one dll included in the install folder which is also in the users GAC. The code looks in the GAC first for this dll and only looks in the install folder if none exists in the GAC.
What I want to do is include a line in my install script to copy this dll to the users GAC as well as copying it to the installation folder.Is there anyway to do this in VB? I did find the following on one of the MS sites for installing into the GAC gacutil /i a.dll
Is it possible to run this through VB or is there a cleaner way of doing this?

View 1 RepliesIt appears that when one creates an instance of Excel, using CreateObject, (Late binding), the suggested Excel closing function (with GC.collect etc) does not work. I have tried several suggestions, and the only one that works is process.kill method. Do you see any problem in using this? BTW: the reason we are using late binding is that we cannot use Office PIAs....not sure which version of Office would be installed on the client site. We work with O2003, but the client might still be at 2000 or 2002.
View 7 RepliesBasically I've coded an Excel 2007 project in VB.NET 2010 that allows you to create charts with a fair amount of interactivity. I want the user to be able to save and reopen this workbook and still have that interactivity in any already-created charts, so they don't have to re-create them.
When I create the charts, I use Sheet1.Controls.AddChart(...), which returns a Microsoft.Office.Tools.Excel.Chart with which I can handle events and such. However, when I reopen the file and look through the Sheet1.Controls collection, there are no Chart objects. Accessing the charts through Sheet1.ChartObjects.Chart gives me Interop Charts, when I need the Tools Charts.

I'm using the font "Century Gothic" as the standard for my program. I want to add the font to my install, question is not how. It comes with Microsoft Office from what I've noticed, it also came with Windows NT.

The SQL server is 2005.I do not have any warnings or errors, and the project compiles without error. When I run the install package on another computer, everything appears to install correctly, and the shortcut is placed on the desktop. However, when opened, the cursor goes into wait mode for a few seconds then returns to normal and the form does not open.I am using windows authentication for the SQL server, and the user of the other computer is the owner of the database I am developing for, so that person has access. I am using the following when making a connection to the SQL server: Dim cnnSQL As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(My.Settings.ConnectionString)
