I would like to specify a function to be called in my VB.Net 2005 WinForms project at midnight when the system date changes. Is this possible?I know I could do this by setting a timer by setting the interval to midnight minus the current time, then after the first tick, setting the interval to 24 hours. I was wondering if there was a cleaner, simpler way.

I'm trying to write an application that will notify me when a webpage changes. I used a web browser form and it opens the main website fine. You have to click a submit button to get to the page that I need to track. After this page opens I copy the text I want to track into an input box and then I need to refresh the page every minute or so to see if the text changes.The problem I am having is I cannot get the page to refresh properly. I send the WebBrowser1.Refresh() command but my ap stops responding, but only sometimes. If the refresh works then I get a popup window where I need to send [enter] to get the page to

I have a VB.Net application that connects to a SQL Server database on my web host at GoDaddy. I'm wanting to use it for a chat program so that users can add messages to the database and then everyone else gets the new messages when it re-queries the database.
The only problem is that the only way to get the new messages is to re-query the database every # seconds.
Is there any way to have my program not re-query the database until an entry is added by another user?Would the SQL.SQLNotificationRequest be used for this?

I have a calendar column which is generated on from load. Its value is assigned to todays date - for instance 04/04/2012
I also have a comboBox with a list of months.
Is there a way I can change the value of my calendar column to reflect the chosen month?

I have a class and one of the properties is a list of a custom class. The caller gets the list and is adding instances of class to the list. How do I get notified that the list has been updated?

It runs perfectly on my Windows machine however recently there is a business requirement to convert this application to run as a web application so that people could view them in their blackberries when they go to the URL. Is there any quick way to perform such a conversion or I will have to translate the code line-by-line for such cases?
View 1 RepliesI am throwing some data out into Excel and am having some formatting troubles. I have 5 columns (date, time, a long number I don't want displayed in scientific notation - text is fine, text, text). I can get it all working with numberformat, however I have to do them different ways.
Date works this way cell.numberformat = "m/d/yy" and it formats it to say 3/1/11
Time works this way cell.numberformat = "h:mm AM/PM" and it formats it to say 8:07 AM
For the long number cell.numberformat = "@" and it doesn't change the format and it gets displayed in scientific notation
BUT if I use cell.style.numberformat = "@" it works as it should, but it messes up all of the date and time cells. Apparently when you use style.numberformat, it doesn't just apply to the cell you're working with. If I try using style.numberformat with the date and time formats, they don't change and are entered as if I didn't change the format at all.
I want to be able to add a range and get updated for the entire bulk. I also want to be able to cancel the action before it's done (i.e. collection changing besides the 'changed').

I have a winforms app using a trackbar. The BackColor property is available for change, but doing so makes the color of each "tick" almost invisible. I don't see an explicit property to modify the color of the "tick". Is there something I am missing or a way to change the color of the tick?

When a user selects an item in list1, list2 (a list of string) will be obtained from database and combobox is bound to list2.If user specifies text1 in combobox1 and text2 in combobox2, then these two values will be shown in the comboboxes regardless of the bound lists.

So the results of above code is that goal 1 is achieved, but goal 2 is never achieved. combobox1.selected index is always 0 and combobox2.selected index is always 0 too.
I have a WinForms app built with VB.Net in VS 2010, and I'm scratching my head over the following issue.I have a form with a combobox which gets bound to a datasource when the form is loaded:

This seems to work fine, as long as the user doesn't switch focus to some other control and then go back to the combobox. After switching focus, if the user then changes the combobox selection to the first item in the dropdown list (SelectedIndex = 0), the SelectionChangeCommitted event fires, but the SelectedValue remains set to the previously selected value. I've verified this by adding a message box in the above event handler, displaying SelectedIndex and SelectedValue side-by-side.

This does NOT happen if the user changes SelectedIndex to anything other than 0; everything behaves as expected. I need the first place, because the BindingContextChanged event is not fired until some time after InitializeComponent.The second place is needed if the binding field is programatically changed.Am I handling the correct events here, or is there a cleaner way to do it?
Note: My GetValueType method uses the CurrencyManager.GetItemProperties....etc, to retrieve the type.
Can we use css formatting in a vb application to give some enhancement? Examples would be changing the font color and or background? Are there any other way to customize a (VB)desktop application?
