Php - Prevent Users From Being Able To Access A Webpage Via Web Browser?

Apr 18, 2010

This program is going to submit GET data to our webpage. However, we don't want users accessing the webpage any other way than the program. We can prevent users from sharing the program using HWID authentication, but nothing prevents them from using a packet scanner to get the URL of the webpage. We thought about user-agent authentication, which we will implement, but user-agents can easily be spoofed.

how can we prevent users from accessing the webpage directly, instead of through the program?

Currently we will be implementing:

HWID Authentication to use the program User-Agent Authentication to access the web page Instant IP Blacklisting to anyone accessing the webpage without the proper User-Agent

Prevent Users Entering Letters Instead Of Numbers?

Mar 26, 2009

The app uses several forms to let the user enter information. In each form the info is entered into textboxes and dealt with elsewhere when the "Enter" button is clicked. A lot if the info entered is used in calculations and so must not contain alpha characters, only numbers. What is the best way of examining each entry and identifying any that are not numbers, so that I can ask the user for a correction with a MsgBox?Prevent Users Entering Letters Instead of Numbers?

Prevent Users From Entering Data Into DataGridViewComboBoxCells?

Dec 20, 2010

I have a project that uses a number of DataGridView controls. Most of the cells are of the DataGridViewTextBoxCell persuasion. I declare my controls like so:Dim MyCell as DataGridViewCell Later I specify whether they are DataGridViewTextBoxControls or DataGridViewComboBoxCells like so:

MyCell = New DataGridViewTextBoxCell MyCell = New DataGridViewComboBoxCell None of the places in my code require the ability for the users to enter their own values in the Combo Boxes. That is, they are either hard-coded or the values are gathered from other data within the application.

Currently, users can highlight a combo box control defined as shown above and begin typing anything they like. For example, I have one combo box that offers the user a selection of integers between 1 and 9. I can highlight the combo box cell and enter "Hello, World!" if I'd like. What does it take to disable this ability? I'm sure there's a property, but I have yet to find it. I have searched the Internet, and have found only the ability to have user-entered values added to the list and a stream of data-binding tutorials.

Prevent Users Viewing Javascript File?

Mar 16, 2011

I have built a vb.net web application. I have tried to make it secure, with all users requiring a password to get in. The only problem is that if anyone can guess (or detect using some kind of hacking tools) the url of the javascript file, they can download it and read it, without even having to log in first.

Is there any way that this can be prevented?

.net Desktop App : Log Users Application's Usage By Users After Remote Deployment?

Apr 3, 2012

1.Id like to publish a free vb.net desktop application for the users to download and use meanwhile Id like to collect usage information ex: user ip address, users registration information, used features, time spent if the user allows the report to be sent back.

2.Also , in order for the user to be able to use the application, hell have to register it then, everytime, before the application loads, it gets verified online that it was registered, maybe validate the registration information or a valid user name and password, no critical personal information. The target of this step is for the application to be used exclusively by the registered user and maybe on his computer only.

VS 2010: Prevent Multiple Users From Accessing File At The Same Time

Jul 15, 2011

I have written a program in VB 2010 that dumps documentation info into an Excel file. Basically, the Excel file is a log file that keeps track of revisions for design drawings at an engineering firm.

There are approximately 20 people that have access to this program. However, I've run into issues where multiple users may be using the program and trying to send info to the Excel file at the same time. The Excel file is set to read only. My program opens the file with write access, and dumps the info into the appropriate cells, then closes the file. If one person is in the process of using the program, it causes an error with another persons system if they try to use it at the same time.

In some cases, it causes my program to crash, and it leaves the Excel file open on someones system.

Typically, my program would only have the Excel file open for a couple seconds. So, the issues mentioned above are rare, but they do happen.

I'm looking for ideas to prevent this issue from occuring.

Buffering Using Ftpwebrequest - Allows Users To Login To The System

Mar 15, 2011

This will be my first post on this site, so I thought I would make it a doozy. I have an web application on our site at work that allows users to login to the system, and submit filings for dockets that our state agency governs. Without getting to involve with what that means, they basically upload mostly .pdf files, but there are others that are acceptable to upload as well. The current system that is being used, uses a simple FileUpload and saving it to a folder on the d: drive of the webserver. I ran into a problem that with anyone outside the building/network, the upload is extremely slow and seems to be limited files no larger than about 1.4MB. There have been a few cases where larger file have made it through, but those ar few and far between. I've tried a couple different 3rd party components, but seem to run into the same limits. So, I install the FTP server on the box with the IIS and am trying to go the FTP route using ftpwebrequest.

Below is what I have put together so far:

Imports System.Net
Imports System.IO

Partial Class _Default

[CODE]...

This seems to work as it is at the moment, but I know it has a long way to go for catch exeptions, speeding it up...

1.) The first problem I have run into is if you try to upload to large a file, you get Out of memory error. I'm needing to change the buffer so that it is buffering chunks instead of the entire file. I've googled over and over again and seem to find several good options in C#, but can't seem to convert them to VB. So, could some one give me some idea how to take what I have and change the buffering to use smaller chunks.

2.) I need to catch an empty UploadFile field.

3.) I will eventually be changing this so that it handle multiple file uploads like my current system uses. (Did I mention that I'm new to the ASP.NET and have been programming in .ASP)

4.) As you will notice from my list of acceptable file types, I might have a problem with some needing to be upload as Binary and some not. So I'm going to have to come up with a way to test and change the Requested.UseBinary = False as needed.

I'm sure that I'll find other items as I progress or the big bosses will find other things that they want to add, but for now.... I know that given enough time, I will get all of these items worked out.

By the way, we have a network adminstrator that leave a lot to be desired and most IIS and now FTP I'm having to learn, implement and configure. I'm wondering if there is anything else that could be causing these limits in file size. Since I've tried 4 completely different forms of uploads and they all seem to run into the same limits, I thought there might be something in a router, firewall, server configuration.... that I might need to look into as well.

Login Page - Deny Users Who Are Not Authenticated

Aug 31, 2011

<authentication mode="Forms">

<authorization>
<deny users="?"></deny>

What I am trying to accomplish is that when a user enters the correct information, I would like to store information small information about the user in a cookie, say for example if there an admin, manager, user, etc...Here is the code that occurs when the user click the submit button. The problem is that the page doesn't redirect to the page after user enter correct information.
If txtPassword.Text.ToLower = "test" Then
'Create a cookie
Dim cookie As New HttpCookie("UserInfo")
'Cookie variables
cookie("User") = txtUser.Text

Prevent Login Wars Between WebBrowser Controls And Actual Browsing?

Jun 4, 2010

I have a program that autologs itself into facebook and monitors posts to my main page and tells me if anything new comes up. Every minute my program refreshes the page and searches for a new post, if my session is expired it logs itselft back in automatically. If I'm in explorer trying to play farmville and my facebook monitor program is running then I'm forced to log in about every minute because my login at the browser kills my vb.net program session.

Then my vb.net program logs itself back in and I'm out! This behavior doesn't happen If I have two browsers running I can log into both and it doesn't seem to effect the other. I can even have my wife log in from another machine while I'm logged in and It's ok. So The question is why is useing the webbrowser controls in the Vb program any different then just having 2 open and logged in browsers and jumping between the two.

Prevent A Keypress In Another Application?

Mar 17, 2011

We have 2 apps that we display at once for data entry. 1 taking up the left side of the screen, and 1 taking up the right side.

1 of those apps is the data entry application. The other app is for viewing scanned info. But they can't talk to each other directly.

So I'm creating a tool that runs in the background to intercept certain keys.

I want to be able to capture keys such of Ctrl + Home, Ctrl + Page Up, etc from the data entry application, and send it to the scanned image to rotate it or zoom, etc.

I believe I can do most of it, except 1 part.

Right now if I did Ctrl + PageUp, it will send the key press to both apps. How do I prevent a keypress from the originating application?
