Return The Number Of Records Processed From An Sql Procedure Whether It Is A Select Or Update/insert Query?
Nov 25, 2009
how can i return the number of records processed from an sql procedure whether it is a select or update/insert query and how can i receive it in the calling method in vb .net.
If you are working on a large record in database. How you manage to use the INSERT,,UPDATE? I mean when selecting a record base on two tables or more and those tables consist of 20 columns it hazard to put all those columns in one query.
[code]...
How to lessen the code without typing all those queries over and over again ?
I am new to VB and trying my hand at the below code. I am trying to determine the number of records for each possible combination. Depending on the outcome of the number of records groups may be combined. I am not able to find the record count for each grouping. Can you please look at the code below and suggest what I am doing wrong?
I am a Newbie using SQL server and vb.net in VS2010. I am re-writing an existing application which is written in an old programming language. I have a table with invoice records waiting to be assigned an invoice number and invoice date. I have two ways of updating these records , the first way is the user manually selects which records/rows to be updated for a specific customer account number. This all works fine.
I am trying to write a stored proc which goes through all un-invoiced records (i.e., invoice number = blank) , it is to group records/rows by account number and assign next invoice number (which I already have astroed proc to fetch) and then when the account number changes to move onto the next batch of records for the next account.
I need to add a gridview to my page where the sqldatasource is based on a query that returns records that fall between Sunday and Saturday of the current week. (Each record has one date field) The records are for payroll purposes and the payroll week runs from Sunday to Saturday. I need to find all records that fall in the current pay week.
I need some help in using a stored procedure in my case below: I have a table with a single XML column which takes in fields VoucherCode and Quantity, the data in SQL xml column looks like this:
The below method will call my stored procedure to check if a particular voucher exist based on my voucher code and then either add a new row or update an existing voucher in my gridview:
Protected Sub btnAdd_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btnAdd.Click Dim dbCommand As DbCommand = Nothing
I am using datarepeater on my windows form to populate records from a temp table. I want to write query to insert records for an employee in a single row rather than multiple rows. For example: I am displaying records of one month only. so i know the definite number of columns. Normally if we use select * from Temp ' it will display and i can populate in a datagrid.
I have a datatable populated from an SQL Server 2008 database table. I created a DataAdapter with a commandbuilder to manage the updating, inserting, and deleting of records. The Updating and Inserting work as expected. However, Delete does not. The code runs through just fine without any errors. The number of records in the datatable after the row is deleted even reflects the deletion. The DataAdapter.Update works fine without any exceptions. But when checking the actual table in the SQL DB the deleted record is still there. Here are the parts of my code that deal with this table.
I'm creating a project using Microsoft Access 2007 & Visual Basic 2008.I have two tables in my database, Staff and Training Attended. The Training Attended records of Staff are displayed in datagridview, residing in a different form from the Staff detailsWhat my program does is, it will display all of the Staff's list of Training Attended in datagridview once I click the button in Staff form. I've succeeded in retrieving the records. using bindingsource.filterThe problem is that I can't insert/update/delete records in the Training Attended datagridview. it keep giving me this error: Update requires a valid UpdateCommand when passed DataRow collection with modified rows.
I'd like to take all suggestion either in C# or VB.NET.I have a DB diagram like the image below. I also include the database script here [URL]In the Students table, CountryId and RoomId column are allowed null. Because some records do not have info about room and country yet. Also, some students do not have essays.I'm doing a joint query with all tables. I want to select all students to project the result like this:Wanted query result.
Here's my current query that gives the result like the image below:
Dim db As New DBDataContext Dim query = From st In db.Students _ Join c In db.Countries On c.Id Equals st.Id _ Join r In db.Rooms On r.Id Equals st.RoomId _
[code].....
current query result I got only one result back because I have (2) William NoMan record in every table. But I don't get anything about others, like (3) Sync Master who has everything but RoomId.What do I need to modify the query above so it will give me all students like in the wanted query image above?
i have a query that when i updating my database it doesnot take *,&,-,#,@ all these, but when add a new database its taking all above i have fields of roll#,Sname,Age and address?
On an SQL query I have. I have the select query working fine but according to the result I need to set the column of a table to 0. I have the following Select query:
CODE:
So where the CommissionCalculator SetUp > 0 I want it to Update the CommissionStructure SetUp column to 0. I was thinking I might need an IF statement but I dont know how to work with them in SQL.
I am writing an application that does a number of different things with data downloaded from hardware which is monitoring the power used in my home and produced by my PV Solar array. I have run into a roadblock early on, because I cannot seem to get new data into an Access database that I have linked to my application by means of a DataSet. I have checked the DataAdapter's InsertCommand, DeleteCommand, and UpdateCommand definitions (created by the DataSet Wizard), and they seem to make sense, and nothing is throwing exceptions or otherwise making VB complain, but new rows added to the dataset are not being added to the database.
I want to UPDATE query instead INSERT INTO using this code?
Dim cmd As New OleDbCommand("INSERT INTO tblPurchase_Order ([Order_Id],[Supplier_Id],[Address],[Project_Id],[dtpDate],[Material_Id],[Material_Name],[Unit],[Quantity],[Unit_Price],[Amount]) VALUES (@Order_Id,@Supplier_Id,@Address,@Project_Id,@dtpDate,@Material_Id,@Material_Name,@Unit,@Quantity,@Unit_Price,@Amount)", conn)
I have this query which I want to submit after the user click a button.
Update tbl_books Set Bk_Rent = Bk_Rent - 1 Bk_Avl = Bk_Avl + 1 Where Bk_Id = ( Select * from tbl_transactions where Trans_Id = @a )
The problem is as far as I know, Update and Select queries have different formats. Update statements will use the ExecuteNonQuery()while Select needs a dataset. My problem is how can I execute these two statements at the same time. I tried this code but it didn't work out.
Dim command4 As New OleDb.OleDbCommand Dim adapter4 As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter Dim dataset As New DataSet
1) If I insert a row into a sql table using insert query and 2) If I fill a datatable in dataset and add a row to it and again use the dataadapter.Update method for inserting this row.
I have users check off lab facilities in a UI. I want to use linq to fetch corresponding records for all of the labs that they have checked off. Basically,
Dim myRecs = (From l As EpiData In myDataContext.EPIDatas Where l.facility= _ one of the checked labs
So basically, I need to write a linq query where the "strings" to match are determined at runtime. Is there any way to do this easily? I know that there is a library out there called dynamic LINQ, but (1) it's in C# and I'm writing in VB (2) I'm really just looking for a single, simple solution for this single case.
I've just switched from classic ASP to .net and I always used the following to SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE from my MySQL databases:
' Create db connection Function dbConn() Set objConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") objConn.Open "driver=x;Server=x;Port=x;Option=x;Database=x;Uid=x;Pwd=x"
I am trying to do simple insert, update, delete, select statements within VB .NET to access a MS Access database. I have tried all kinds of solutions offered on the web and while the code seems to work, no rows are inserted. Also, I have tried, unsuccessfully, to use the Try/Catch to see if there's an error with no success. I have attached the versions of VB .Net and MS Access I am using: Here's the code:
i want to update a row in an ACCESS DB in vb.net using sql query. the way to point to the row is using the primary key. the problem is that i was an error saying that there is a data type mismatch in criteria expression. the primary key type is auto-increment.[code]
I am having Syntax Error problem with the Insert and Update statement on using VB and Access that is having an AutoNumber that works also as Primary Key, the below is my code for it. I can do the insert if there is no Auto Number but if it does have, my code is not working. For my delete, when i RUN the below code, it wipes out all my my data inside my
Update Dim strsql2 As String = ("update visa_block set(@utilized, @balance) where @id")
both queries have 5 fields. now what i want to do is after this insert or update takes place, i need to look at this inserted/updated record and compare it with another table (table2). Especially for update, i have 5 fields in both tables. if any of the 5 fields dont match with table2, then i insert a new record in table 2 which is the updated record in table 1.
I'm working on a project and my boss insists I use a DataGrid for this. The grid holds information for work orders, one of the cols has a check box in it. I need the user to be able to select any number of those checkboxes/rows and then return a value to the table "stamping" that users ID. This is what I have so far to get the grids populated... I'm using 2005 with a 2000 Access Database if that helps. Though this will be changed to SQL Server once we get it working (yay more work)...
[code]...
I removed the code from the second grid to make it easier to read, obviously once I can get one to work the second shouldn't be as much trouble. This is the check box: dgvNewBiz.Columns(1).HeaderText = "Select"At this point if someone knows how to get it to recognize the click event of the check box and pass that row info to a variable that would be super as I'm sure I could probably figure it out from there.
I have this piece of code wich works perfectly when inserting records into one table using records from another table. My question is that now i need to create another table by using records from 3 other tables (tables are related). Can i use aliases on the column names, like on Oracle SqlPlus? How will be the syntax of the 'INSERT INTO SQL statement?
Dim MyConn As ADODB.Connection Dim MyRecSet As ADODB.Recordset Dim tmpSQL As String MyConn = New ADODB.Connection
