When having hundreds of .rtf files in an app, is it best (and Quickest) to set the "Build Action" as "Content", "Resources" or another property setting?
View 1 RepliesI've copied the files albanyc.ttf and MTCORSVA.TTF into 'Resources' and set the 'Build Action' for both to 'Resource'. A label is set to one or other of these fonts dependent upon what is being displayed. This works fine on this PC but when I copy the program to my laptop it seems to me that neither font is used and the same 'other font' is used in stead of either of the ones I want to use. I tried setting the build action to 'Embedded Resource' but that made no difference and I got an error message when I tried 'Compile' (I kinda expected that, but thought it worth a try). Both CP and laptop have the same OS, Win.7 64bit, the only difference is that the PC has Pro. and the laptop Home P.

I don't know what the problem is but, whenever I run the program, I get a message that reads this: "There were several build errors. Would you like to continue and run the last successful build?"

recently i have been working on a desktop project, and i made couple of changes to the project, one of them was changing the build action for the App.config to "Embedded Resource" by mistake! after that i built the application and no compile errors were shown, so i tried to run it but the following run time error showed up:
{"An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: The URL cannot be empty. Parameter name: url"}
but it did not specify more information about the exact cause or the exact error place. so it will leave you in a miss!
for awhile, i did not know what was the cause of this due to the numerous changes i did, so i started to review my latest changes one by one till i discovered that changing the build action for the App.config file was the reason for this error.
I have more than one file under project. Where do I configure the first/start file when debug?
Example: form1.vb is load by default when debug. Now I want it to load login.vb instead.

I am using images imported into My.Resources as images for items in my game. Now for the saving procedure I use pnl.BackgroundImage.ToString but that returns System.Drawing.Image. What I'd like to know is how to retrieve the name of the resources object that is the image of the panel.

I have an Inherited Control with a Property that can be set in the designer. There's some code in the Set procedure to make sure it's set appropriately. However when I build or run the project that property is changed, I am assuming it's the sanity check code in the Set procedure that's causing it to be changed along with some VS beahviour. The problem is that when I try to set the property like this: myClass.Language = "English" The property is set to "English" and not to "<![CDATA[English]]>" which is what I want. What is the reason for that and how can I fix it? When placing a break point on End Set and use the Watch window to inspect the value of _Language after setting the property to "English" it remains "English" and doesn't change.

I am converting a 1.1 .NET web app to 3.5, and I've run into a bit of a jam.
One web control has a Property that sets the page title label on that web control.

When a page with the web control was loaded before, it would set the Property to a given string, like in ucHeader.PageTitle = "This is a string." Now, if I don't remove the lblPageTitle.Text = Value, I get a NullReference Exception.
I'm new to classes. In my Who wants to be a Millionaire application, I have a Lifeline class and I create three instances of it - FF, PAF and ATA (50/50, Phone a Friend and Ask the Audience). Something I do with a lifeline is put a cross over its logo, hence the need for a centrepoint property, which marks the centre of the cross on a form.

What happens is that at the "Call Form2.DrawCross(Form2.CentrePoint)" line, the tooltip shows that the FF object's centrepoint property isn't set (as I thought it would be by " FF.CentrePoint = tmpPoint").

I want to give the user the ability to change backcolor properties on my NumbericUpDown property. So when I read in the Config.txt file the end user can change coloring on the General Form. In this case the NumbericUpDown. How to assign a variable for color from my string (from my txt file) that I read in.

I am creating a customised version of the ListView control and there are several of the properties that a ListView has that I would like to be set to a different value to the ListView default when a user goes to use my user control.
From what I've found there seems to be a number of people suggesting just set them in the constructor, but to the best of my knowledge that would just mean that the user would not be able to change the properties in the PropertyGrid in the VS IDE.I assume this is probably something extremely simple that I have overlooked.
I have a single form that I would like to move across the screen with my VB program.
