I have the following function that returns only the 1st row of data and puts it in a nice table. My knowledge in this area is limited in that I don't know how to create the table to return multiple rows. Can you show me how to change this to return all rows, no matter how many there are? my sql select statement may return 0 rows or many rows.

I have Dataset ds filled up with values Until now I was displaying values in GridView. Now I want that all the rows should be columns and columns should be rows.I have 2 options: Either 1 I can directly convert grid to columns and display it, or 2 I can convert the GridView to html and then write loops to convert. I was trying the 2nd option but I cant figure out how I should do that.[code]With this code I am still getting same as GridView. Please help me for converting rows to columns and vice versa.

I am attempting to fill a form with multiple rows from an access table based off of a parameterized query. My query works fine but I don't want to return one row at a time, I want to return all rows that match my query in multiple text boxes. I know that I can use a datagrid view to accomplish this, but I would prefer the look of a textboxes on a form. I have read through many books and searched the internet forums but think I may just not know what to search for as nothing has worked yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction. So far I have tried setting the text box value to the row().item(), creating a different dataset for each row, and even setting variables for the results of the query to then be passed to the text boxes. Since none of this work, I don't really have any starting code to post. If I could just get a starting point I could work from there, so don't feel the need to code anything for me, just set me in the right direction.

in my database there is a table holds information about the customer. in my application, in a form user can input many customer ids. when they press the update button in the customer table, a single field should be updated for all the customer ids user entered. is there any way to do this. I am trying to append multiple rows in a SQL Server.I have connected to the MS SQL Server and with a DataAdapter, I have downloaded the Table into a DataTable and displayed it in DataGridView.I now want to programatically enter multiple rows into the DataTable and later to update the SQL Table.
I am trying to build an application to do this generically.The problem I have is that the Table and DataTable has an 'ID' Field. In the SQL DB, i is an Auto-incrementing field.When the code loops through creating new rows and entering field values, how do I handle the ID Field that is the Primary Key?

Have a method who gets data from one table, put the data into variables before it it returned into the same table with changed ID etc. My problem is that it adds the first row without any problems, but when it is supposed to add row number 2 the error says tha the row allready exists in the table. and I can not understand why. I have put in a couple of messageboxes to se that the ID is changing and that the ordreID is correct and changing as they should and they do, but stll I get that errormessage.

I have a Windows application form. Directly on the form I have a lable ("Customer Names"), a ComboBox (pulling actually names from a database) , and a Buton to add a customer to the database if i choose. Additionally I have ControlTab(3 tabs) that has "fields" and its own Buttons to insert data into a different table. I am working on Treeview control and Gridview Control VB.NET08. In the Treeview i have Parent and Child Nodes. Like: [Code] Comparing the Parent Node text and first two digits in the Column values. I want to add rows inbetween the gridview rows based on the parent and Child Nodes. If i expand the First Parent Node Called "31" then according to the Number of Child Nodes (for first parent node(31) there are 5 child nodes.) add rows in the gridview.

I am looking for a howto or someone expert in ADO.NET who can explain me how to properly solve the following scenario:I have two datatables in a dataset:
ParentTable (ParentID, Name) for user data ChildTable (ParentID, ActivityID, ...) for schedule data
Tables are linked together at the database level by ParentID which is an Identity column in ParentTable.
Both tables are data bound to a separate DataGridView on the GUI. There supposed to be a "1 parent/N children" relationship between the tables, meaning if I create a new entry in the ParentTable (a new user) I get a clean DataGrid in the child grid to type schedule data for the user. So I setup two DataAdapters for each table to fill their result into a DataSet. I also set up a DataRelation object and assign it to the DataSet to link the two tables by their ParentID columns. Also when I add a row into the ChildTable via DataGrid I use SetParentRow to set the parent row.

I am trying to create a form which will be fed by an underlying database to create multiple form fields for each entry in an underlying database table. This is for a program to monitor patients under anesthesia, and prior to surgery, the doctor will choose which monitors they will be using. Then, on the actual monitor screen which will pop up every X minutes, there will be a text box and a check box for each chosen monitor. I am relatively new to VB, so I have tried to illustrate what I am needing but using the logic that I know from my previous life in PHP.
I am using DevExpress's layout control to place the form fields, so that is the code in the middle of the first loop (on_load), and I know that part works, I just need to know how to name the fields and then recover those fields and commit the values to the database. (the text boxes are added to the database, the check boxes are used to determine if an entry is made for that monitor- i.e. at the end of surgery if a monitor is turned off). I know that my syntax for naming the fields is no where close to correct, and it probably would not work in PHP, but I remember doing something like this in a PHP application I built long ago. [Code]

I have a vb.net web application and when a particular function runs , i get data timeouts in the rest of the application..(ie..row not found errors or column does not belong to table but it does) The function is adding multiple rows in multiple tables in the database and is running in a for loop. It seems to be all SQL related but I am not seeing anything in the error logs in SQL or in the application Right now I am assuming it is memory related where to start note..the for loop will be replaced with a bulk insert but right now I jest need to resolve the issue of the timeouts

I am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column.Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column.Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.

I have a gridview that contains user info and one of the columns is a date when the user was added to the system. Is it possible to use the GridView.onRowCreated method to check if the user was added within a given time frame? If the user was added within that timeframe, then the row is added, if not, then that row is not added.
Note that I can't modify the datasource of the gridview, so I need to do this somehow as the gridview is being created.

Is it possible to loop through a gridview with more than one page, the gridview I'm looking at has a pageSize of 20, there are say 26 records (over two pages) and I want to be able to loop though all the records.
For Each row As GridViewRow In GridView.Rows The count of the above is only 20 as the pageSize is set to 20, I can see that the pagecount is 2 but how do you loop through the next page in a gridview? Or would I have to just iterate through the orginal datasource?

I have a dynamically-created GridView which to which I'm attaching a handler using the AddHandler command. The problem is that when I try to refer to sender.rows within that function, it won't do anything because it says that sender.rows.count = 0. I've done enough dynamic form creation that I'm pretty sure that I'm creating the controls, binding them, and adding the handler at the proper points during the page init/load load_complete. Also, I have nearly the exact same code-behind on another form that is not dynamic, and it is able to access the values in the rows.
Considering that the RowCommand event is firing, it's clear that I'm clicking on a row. For some reason it's just not in scope for the handler event. Background: What I really want to do is access the values that are databound to the row. I'm creating a SQLCommand and binding that to the dynamic grid, and I would prefer to talk to the grid's datasource, but that doesn't seem to be possible. Perhaps I'm missing something, but for now it seems that reading the values from the GridView (which I hate doing) is the only thing that works.

How can I implement the following:I would like to have a checkbox on the top of my gridview. When checkbox is checked should show all the hidden rows from the gridview but when is unchecked should only show the unhide ones.
I only need 1 checkbox at the top(not in the header of the gridview), I found couple of examples but all of the have checbox as coulumn and then added to the header as well.

I have asked a question similar to this in the past. I was able to resolve it by removing gvRowDataBound completely from the code. This is similar code except I can't remove gvRowDataBound sub.
The issue is that when you click the Edit button of the first row, it allows you to successfully update that row.After the first row, if you click on thr edit button of any other row, enter the value to update, it doesn't update that row.
Instead, the cursor moves down to the next row. I didn't design this and having difficulty figuring out what needs to change.

So I've created a gridview with checkboxes so the user can check as many fields as they want and delete them with the click of a button. It works except that it deletes all selected rows except one, the row with the lowest number. I can't firgure out what logic error is causing this.
