Sql Server - Store Errors In Sql Table Or Log File If There Is An Error In Sending Email?
Sep 20, 2009
I am using VB.net code and SQL server 2005.I am havng below code for sending email in my vb.net code.
Protected Sub ibtnSendInvites_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ibtnSendInvites.Click
Try
Dim emailList As New List(Of String)
For Each curRow As GridViewRow In GridView1.Rows
[code].....
Now my problem is that some time if emailaddress is not valid or SMTP server is responding my application get hangs. I want to log my errors generated by my SMTP server in table or any log file it would be good if I can send back email to admin with the details of error occurred.
I've implemented with Visual Basic 10 an application for Net Framework 4 with functionality to send files via e-mail using System.Net.Mail. It works well except when it comes to sending an XML file whose name contains accents. In the latter case the UTF-8 name is not correct, so Widows Mail Life presents him with name consisting of a set of meaningless characters. Furthermore, the content has lost the format of lines and spaces, presented part of MIME type information in the header, so that it is unreadable XML readers. However, with a name without accents is sent successfully.[code]....
I am trying to Send an Email with an attachment (using Gmail) but I keep getting errors like "Operation Timed out" or Failure Sending Email". It was working earlier today but I found out that i needed to add Using statement because the email was having a file open that had to be deleted after it was sent but afterwards it doesn't work.
Here's what I have (Portion of it): Private Sub SendMailOneAttachment(ByVal un As String, ByVal pass As String, Optional ByVal smtp As String = "smtp.gmail.com") Using oAttach As Net.Mail.Attachment = New Net.Mail.Attachment((Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.LocalApplicationData) & "\" & My.Computer.Name & "_" & fName & " .zip")) Dim client As SmtpClient = New SmtpClient(smtp) [Code] .....
The ports are correct I believe, no firewall up on my PC...
I'm trying to send a simple email via vb.net. This is the first time i've tried this and am getting the same message every time. I've looked everywhere with no answer... The host that i use is bluehost, and i know the port name and the client name and username and password are correct. So i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong, perhaps it's thinking i should be sending from my localhost, or my ip address? Either way, below is the error i'm getting, and the code. The # just represent the numbers in the error and so on and so forth.

I haven't done any VB coding since school (15 years ago) but currently have a need to run what "sounds" a fairly simple app at work. I'm hoping some of you might be able to give me some pointers as to whether or not my idea is possible, and if it is, how best to approach it.
I work for a company where we send a number of standard emails to potential clients asking them to contribute to our magazine . if no response we then send a number of follow up emails. each and every time I send a new email to a new prospect I'm editing one of our template emails, putting their name and email address into outlook and manually sending emails. Then for every reminder I'm going back into outlook, clicking reply all and then c&p'ing our second or third reminder emails in each and every time. needless to say at least 2-3 hours of my day are spent editing and resending the same emails on outlook.
I'm developing an application that sends notifications using local outlook. The notifications stopped working after an update to windows, I tried to revert the system but it doesn't solve the issue.
Dim strBody As String = "Work Order Number: " & workOrderNumberLBL.Text Dim m As New Net.Mail.MailMessage("MYEMAILADDRESS", "GUESTEMAILADDRESS", "WORK ORDER TO BE PLANNED", strBody)
[CODE]...
But I get the error below. Any know what causes this error?
System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Failure sending mail. ---> System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An existing connection was
I am using following code to send emails. This works best in Windows XP but fails in Vista, while with same Vista, I can send mails using Windows Mail. what change I should make to make application work with Windows.
We are testing some code to send email messages using Gmail from a form, but get a time out error.
Can you tell us what is missing from this code to get the email message sent?
Try Dim SmtpServer As New SmtpClient() Dim mail As New MailMessage() SmtpServer.EnableSsl = True SmtpServer.Credentials = New Net.NetworkCredential("ouremail@gmail.com", "MyPasswordGoesHere") SmtpServer.Port = 465
In Windows XP as well as in Vista,it was possible to compose and send out an email using MAPI with the default email application MS Outlook, utlook Express or anyother. Butin Windows7, it is not possible to send out mails using MAPI.The ResolveNamefunction callprompts an error. I found that ResolveName function is deprecated Is there anything else can fix this problem?Following is a sample of the code
I receive three errors using the following function:
Private Sub readWebpage(ByVal url As String) Try Dim req As System.Net.WebRequest = System.Net.WebRequest.Create(url) Dim resp As System.Net.WebResponse = req.GetResponse

I have sql server2000 encypted stored procedure. I can not modify them. Typicaly all the procedures manipulate row by row different tables using cursors etc. When the stored procedure is executed at the Query Analyser screen, I see error being thrown in between but the procedures continues till all the records have been processed. This behavior is acceptable to the client. I now need to automate the process using VB.net 2002 windows application. I call the procedure from vb.net but the program throws runtime error on the 1st occurance of a error in the stored procedure.
I am currently working a piece of code which needs to send an attachment in the email it generates. The attachment is a PDF document. Due to requirements I am unable to save the PDF and send it, so I have had to create a memory stream attachment.
The issue I have with this is that the file size is _500KB. However save the file on my machine and it is around 370KB.
This increase in file size is unacceptable. has anyone come across this issue before? If so how have they got round the problem.
Below is the section of code.
Dim memStream As System.IO.MemoryStream = Nothing 'assign number to the PDF name Dim filename As String = req.GetAccountNumber()
Is there a class or something I can add to be able to read an email?I really want to be able to make a real email client (like outlook). Is it possible with vb.net?
cmd.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM [strfg].[dbo].[Myfunc] (@MyParam)" Dim myparam As New SqlParameter("@MyParam", a) cmd.Parameters.Add(myparam)
The function (runnig on SQL server) returns a table with four columns, one row.How do I call this function from Visual Basic? cmd.ExecuteScalar() is obviously not correct. In c++ I use a recordset. What is the equivalent in vb? Does anyone have a short example?
I'm trying to import a tab delimited file into a table. The issue is, SOMETIMES, the file will include an awkward record that has two "null values" and causes my program to throw a "unexpected end of file".For example, each record will have 20 fields. But the last record will have only two fields (two null values), and hence, unexpected EOF.
Currently I'm using a StreamReader. I've tried counting the lines and telling bcp to stop reading before the "phantom nulls", but StreamReader gets an incorrect count of lines due to the "phantom nulls".I've tried the following code to get rid of all bogus code (code borrowed off the net). But it just replaces the fields with empty spaces (I'd like the result of no line left behind).
Public Sub RemoveBlankRowsFromCVSFile2(ByVal filepath As String) If filepath = DBNull.Value.ToString() Or filepath.Length = 0 Then Throw New ArgumentNullException("filepath") If (File.Exists(filepath) = False) Then Throw New FileNotFoundException("Could not find CSV file.", filepath)
[code]....
I've tried using SSIS, but it encounters the EOF unexpected error.
I am creating an application in ASP.Net 2.0, the user can choose the service that he want and submit the request after choosing the form and filling the needed details the user should click on the submit button, then two emails should be sent; a confirmation email to the user him/herself and a notification email to his/her direct manager to get the approval on the requested ticket. How can I send the emails using VB language?
If you see above code you can find that there is check box functionality in my gridview. I have email address boundfield in my gridview. I want to send an email to the email addresses which are been checked in gridview.
We have an in-house developed VB.Net Windows Forms application that is losing users' individual connections to the SQL Server 2008 R2 database. The bolded message below is what appears.
A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)I have looked at many numerous articles both from Microsoft and others, but have been unable to pinpoint the issue.Sometimes it occurs when the user has been away from the open application for a long-time; others maybe less than 20 minutes.
