View 6 RepliesI've built a windows form application that steps through a wafer map and sends a command to ink specific dies if the bin number is between certain values. While debugging I have run into an issue with the program crashing with no error message anywhere. While stepping through my code, the place the program stops has occured in two different places but both in the same subroutine in the code I use for the network communications. Below is the subroutine I've seen it break on with the two places it has broke indicated.

I'm having to write a reporting application that gets information from some Interbase servers and it also has to work on Vista as well as XP, I'm using to connect Borlands Data Provider.[code]My Issue is that debugging on my xp Machine the dataset gets filled, debugging on my vista box it fails ("Interbase provider initialization failed"), my initial thought was that this could be UAC related but I've compiled the application and 'ran as admin' and still same issue. (by the way it failes on the line Dim da as BdpDataAdapter...)

I am using the following code to create a dummy file of a specific size. RemSpace declared as a Long value and is returned in bytes from a separate function in my applciation. I have verified that it returns the correct # in bytes. However, when I execute the following routine, the dummyfile is created, but it never stops the loop. I have to kill it from task manager or it would fill up the HDD. The line:
For i As Integer = 1 To RemSpace
should tell the For loop to stop when it reaches the value of RemSpace, which is a long value in bytes. Here is my complete code.
Public Sub Create_DummyFile()
Dim RandomClass As New Random()
Dim RandomNumber As Integer

I have a windows Forms app that displays data as it scans.Once you alt-tab or remove "focus" from the app and doing something else (open word) it stops updating. In otherwords it looks like the app has locked up.But it will finish the scanning as normal.But any updates from the scans being shown on the app window are not shown, that is until the app is finished and catches up.

My requirement is getting output from command window asynchonously in vb.net form, I am doing this with system diagnostic process and using addhandler. My problem is, I have separate class to execute process, after process start when control goes to a addhandler sub routine, it stops there only after it's execution(in addhandler subroutine), and never comes back where I am capturing output. Control should come to the line in below code - addInput = outputExe.ToString() so that I can captureoutput and go back to vb.net code behind.
code is as below
Public Class RunExe
Private Function ExecuteProcess()
procInfo = New ProcessStartInfo
procInfo.FileName = ExeFile

The DataSet designer will stop refreshing itself every now and then in VS2008. This means I cannot work with my DataSets until I restart VS. There is a more detailed explanations in
this thread, but it was incorrectly marked as answered. This issue is taking more and more of my time though, so I'd like to get another answer now.
I've written approx 4 projects that utilize a central DLL for database access. The DLL was written in VB.NET using the .NET 3.1 framework. All the code works great. Recently, I went through all the code and updated the connection strings to use a new username and password since they were using the SA account on SQL Server 2005. After recompiling and uploading the DLL to the web server, I disabled the SA account. All of a sudden, the DLL stopped working. It just stopped. I know that the code is ok because I copied it into a aspx file and it worked. I had to re-enable the SA account in order to get things back to normal, but I really would like to eventually disable it.

I'm having a strange problem with the following code, I'm writing a game launcher in VB.NET:
Dim gameProcess As Process = New Process()
gameProcess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False
gameProcess.StartInfo.FileName = TextBox2.Text
[Code]....
I see the game running for a split second in the task manager, but it immediately closes! Does anyone know why? When I run the game from Windows, it works fine.
I've also tried with Shell, same problem.
And I've tried with cmd.exe and the /C argument, same problem (note that when I type cmd.exe /C path_to_game_exe in the Windows Run Dialog, the game also starts fine), it's only when I launch it from the VB.NET app that it gives problems.
I was in correspondence with someone using my program and he verified that on his system, XP won't shutdown/restart either if my program is running.
Basically what happens is when XP gets to my program in the shutdown process to terminate it, the whole shutdown/restart just stops. I have to exit my program, then start the shutdown again.
The person sent me an image of some threads that were still running after the shutdown process halted and I was curious if anyone might be able to shed some light on this info and what to do about these threads.
These are the threads that are running and what they do: mscoree.dll - a module containing the .NET Framework functions. mscorwks.dll - Microsoft .NET Runtime Common Language Runtime gdiplus.dll - contains libraries for the GDI graphics interface.
I have on a simple VB form:Label1Picturebox1FilesysytemwatcherThe watcher watches the camera but only the first picture load after that it gets an exeption and the program stops. I like to continu see what I shoot, but don't want to push buttons on the laptop after each shot. That reason the the watcher is placed. My application randomly freezes and stops responding for some reason. A window comes up and says "svhost.exe not responding". My application is big, and I have no idea where to start or how to figure out why it's freezing. I wish I could give you details, but the only thing I can tell you is that my program runs for a random time between 5-20 seconds, then freezes
View 12 RepliesOk so I have been working on this code for awhile now and it is a huge mess. At the moment I have a problem that if the code is left for a time it will not accept any more connections on the server. I know that it is not accepting any as it is talking to a PLC and I can see that the TCP connection fails. If, however, the PLC transmits to it all the time it does not have a problem. The PLC connects -> Transmit -> Disconnect.I have tried the connection through a switch and via a direct connection. This time I am going to attach the entire code but the main part that you want to look at is the TCP on the main page. I am attaching it all in case there is something else in the code that could be causing the issues
View 2 RepliesI've been trying to get a Timer to execute code every 50ms and it's worked okay, but for some reason after doing the code 8 times (i.e. for 400ms) it just stops. As in, won't execute the code any more times. Specifically, it's wired up to an animation (Picture) and a rectangle which moves around the screen (Box). why the timer would suddenly stop executing after doing so for a while? It's the same duration every time.

Is it possible to use 'Tab Stops' when you're concatenating (say) a Label text? I know it can be done for a PrintLine statement but I'm, trying without success, to put tabs after the colons in this code. ( "...... :" & vbTab ...)
Label1.Text = "Width margins:" & a.ToString & " Pixels." & vbCrLf
Label1.Text += "Height margins:" & b.ToString & " Pixels" & vbCrLf
Label1.Text += "Top margin:" & c.ToString & " Pixels" & vbCrLf
Label1.Text += "Bottom margin:" & d.ToString & " Pixels" & vbCrLf
Poppa.
I have done an extensive search before posting this question, using many different search parameters without success at finding an answer.Using Visual Studio 2008 Express VB:My program requires a notification when a wav file has finished playing, a media player song list will not suit my needs.I have used System.Media.SoundPlayer, Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound and My.Computer.Audio.Play to play a wav file. All work well at playing and stopping the requested wav. So far, I have not found a methode to capture an event when the wav has ended. DirectSound stops playing when the form has lost focus, so I dont think that I can use it. Audio.Play AudioPlayMode.WaitToComplete only holds up other operations and I dont want to create multiple threads.

This is in a RichTextBox. I'm making a string of sports stats and I need to have them aligned neatly in the RichTextBox. Here is an example: str = "12/24 (tab) 225 yards (tab) 2 TDs (tab) 2 INTs" When I use the vbTab constant in place of (tab) I run into problems as the size of the text in each column can be different which makes the tab not balance out correctly.

Been trying to figure out why my progress bars (one in the status bar when the main window is open and the other in a window by itself before the main window is shown) go up most of the way, then stop till the processing is done.I have refresh in there where the action takes place, and that made it work mostely.Basically I'm loading a file into a string, then while in a loop, I'm processing the file by lines. I have a function that retrieves a line, then it does a:
pbProgress.Value = pbProgress.Maximum - sWork.length
pbProgress.ProgressBar.Refresh()
StatusBar1.Refresh()

In the above code I am having issue debugging. The point of this is in the HTML I have three select tags.District, County, and City. If you select a District it should update County and City to limit only the Counties or Cities in that District. City works perfectly but County does not. I discovered that when running through this code above if it runs through the County Case segment it just stops filter = String.Format("maintdisnmbr in ({}0)", filterValue). If I step through step by step the code does not finish. If I don't go step by step and jump ahead it gives me an error saying the Input string is not formatted.
It's using send keys to click a link which works fine for me. but as soon as i drop it to tray it stops ? then continues when restored.
