View 2 RepliesI am beginning to work with .NET technology after several years of VB6 and C++ and I want to learn as fast as possible.
My problem is with a DGV. It shows the prices of several store items, and I intend to let the user modify those prices by entering a % in a textbox (radio button states if that % is positive or negative) or by editing cell by cell manually.
As editing prices is kind of sensitive, what I do is loop through the DGV, add or substract the % engtered in the corresponding column and ask for a confirmation after whole DGV loop is done. If user agrees, DB is updated with new values. No problem here.
If user denies (in case he/she made a mistake), I restore grid's DataSource to a copy I made before calculating new percentages and this automatically refreshes my grid to its original state.
The issue is that if a user denies the operation for a 2nd time, this 2nd execution of the code fails at showing the original values, disabling the pseudo-rollback function.
Here is the code:

If MessageBox.Show(mensaje, "Actualizo", MessageBoxButtons.YesNo, MessageBoxIcon.Warning) = DialogResult.Yes Then

remember this works OK if user denis once. What am I missing regarding DataSources or its Tables? Is there anything like .Redraw?
Btw, I tried update, refresh and I also used a sleep function (this helped me a few times back in VB6...).
have a datagridview containing 2 tables left joined, so that:table1 LEFT JOIN table 2 ON table1.id=table2.idI get an error whenever I try to edit my datagridview."invalidOperationException was unhandled by the user codeDynamic SQL generation is not supported against multiple base tables."The error points to this line:
da.FillSchema(dt, SchemaType.Mapped)
da.Update(dt) << This line

In my datagridview I was fill in using join tables (table1 = pr_employees, table2 = pr_employee_deduction). My problem now is during save button I want to update records from table2 only.[code]
View 3 RepliesVery simple update. It simply fails, no error, no change gets made to the database.Dim db As New BarClassesDataContext Dim foo = (From a In db.articles Where a.id = 14 Select a).Single Response.Write("<h3>" & foo.title & "</h3>") foo.title = "This is my new, updated title for article ID #14"
db.SubmitChanges()
Here is the relevent portion of my article class. Also, this is a web form so I have no console. Is there another way to view the T-SQL output?

I have made a small form where I have bound textbox with records from database.Although my code for inserting and updating the record seems fine and working. But when I view the database, tables i see no inserts/updates made there. But When I run my application again, I see the records in the bound textbox but only for some seconds (for around 1 and half minutes), although they are not shown in the database (tables) actually.
When I close the application and run again it after 1-2 minutes there are no more records bound to the textbox, since no records at all.How can this be possible. I don't have any idea what's going on.
I have been using visual studio 2008 and sql server.Code I have been using for ::
'Update the Records Private Sub btnUpdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click

I Fill a DataTable using a SQLDataAdapter then use a BindingSource as my DataGridViews DataSource. My DataGridView contains a ComboBoxColumn named "Status". There are two ways to update the Status column. One, the user can change the value by clicking a cell in the column then the combobox appears and they make their selection. Second, the user can click a button on the form and the Status for all the visible rows are changed to "Exported". I use a stored procedure as my adapters Update command.

I need your support here. I have one dataset with numerous table adapters in one project. All fine. Now, in another project I am referencing the same dataset. I have added it as a link.So far so good. However, when I change a tableadapter in my main project store and close, and then open my other project the changes to the tableadapter are not there. For example, I have been adding an additional field to an adapter. But when running the second project that field is not part of the tableadapter.
After investigating a bit, I can say that, for whatever reason, when I link the datasets XSD file it created a copy of the respective Designer File. There is now a link to FundResultContainer.designer.vb, as a child of FundResultContainer.vb. But there is also a FundResultContainer1.Designer.vb as a child of FundResultContainer.xsd.
Like this:
FundResultContainer.xsd - FundResultContainer.vb -- FundResultContainer.designer.vb - FundResultContainer.xsc - FundResultContainer.xss - FundResultContainer1.Designer.vb
This could be causing my problem. However, to clean it up, I have removed the whole tree (dataset) and linked only the XSD file again. IT does again create a second designer file, exactly as above.
I have a little vb.net script that will copy a file, set its attributes to Normal, update the file time, and then set back the attributes to match those of the source file.
If IO.File.Exists(Destination) Then IO.File.SetAttributes(Destination, IO.FileAttributes.Normal)
IO.File.Copy(Source, Destination, True)
IO.File.SetAttributes(Destination, IO.FileAttributes.Normal)
[code]....
I however I'm encountering a quite strange problem. On some configurations, IO.File.SetLastWriteTimeUtc triggers an UnauthorizedAccess error, although the IO.File.Copy instruction worked very well.
I have a db with three tables. On the form i drop the first table, then the second (related), then the third (related to the second). I use 1 dataset and three datagridviews. The problem is that i can't update the three tables when i use the update button. I use VB 2008.

View 1 RepliesI have a database with numerous tables all containing the same field. the field needs to have the same value in all of the tables, but currentlydoesn't.Is there a way to use Visual basic codehat goes to each table and updates the field in all of the tables without having to manually go to each table and update the field?
View 2 Repliesi would like to know where is a sample code programmed in 3 tier or n tier to update 2 related tables.
View 7 RepliesI COMPLETELY understand how redundant this is but I NEED it.Upon users creating a User account which only contains the ID, Username, Password and CustomerID I must also have a record in Customers create itself but null everything and the User.User_Customer_ID must update to the newly created Customer.Customer_ID
I have everything working but this pesky update query. The ONLY thing it needs to do is change User.User_Customer_ID to Customer.Customer_ID I managed to story the User.User_ID in an integer called UserID and Customer.Customer_ID in an integer called CustomerID I have tried a million different ways with no success

I have been answering question about updating Table or DataBase Using DGV. Most the people still having problem about it. Being honest with all of you, I don't know why?

I have an application which upon a save button needs to save data to 8 different tables. 7 of those tables will have multiple new records added to them, while 1 will have just one new record. I want to encapsulate this giant Insert operation in a Transaction so that it will not complete unless I can save successfully to all tables.I have considered using Insert commands to a command statement, but adding what amounts to like 50 parameters, and the fact that using a parameterized query means it becomes very difficult to troubleshoot problems such as invalid values in the SQL statement (since I cannot figure out what the statement looks like with values in it

View 2 RepliesI have an office project which shoudl basically do the following:
1) take different TEXT files of fixed-length fields and put them in separate tables.
2) use the data from the different tables and compile them to a master table in a mdb.
3) display data in compiled mdb in datagrid 4) allow editing in datagrid 5) save the data in datagrid into the mdb 6) save the data in datagrid in a csv file i did some googling and came up with the following code:

View 2 RepliesOn a VB.NET 2008 form I have a DataGridView, BindingSource and TableAdapter. The BindingSource DataSource is a dataset. In the dataset I have a Fill command that joins three tables and this is displayed without a problem in the DataGridView. However, I am unable to Update the dataGridView because it has multiple tables from a single TableAdapter? Does anyone know a simple way I can update. The tables has over 200 columns and I only want to update the columns that are changed. If I use a single table I can edit data in theDataGridView and the database is updated ok.
View 2 RepliesI have an Article object with the following properties:
Article Name (varchar)
Article Body (varchar)
Article Tags (varchar)
The Article Tags is a space delimited string of text values that a user has tagged the aritlce with. The 3 properties are passed to a stored procedure.
I now want to do the following:
1) Insert the Article Name and Article Body in the dbo.Articles table and return the article id
2) Insert each value of the Article Tags string in the dbo.Tags table as a separate row but first check for duplicates. If duplicate then return the tagid of existing record, if new record then return the new tagid
3) insert the article id and each tagid as a separate row in the dbo.TagMap table
I need to know the best approach to how I would accomplish this, also being conscious that it does not cost too much in performance.
A suite of apps will be using various tables out of the same sql server database.Regardless of which app is being used, the database structure must stay current. (ie:contain all the tables/fields to run any/all of the apps)So, when the user starts any of the apps, it needs to check the database, for the existence of all the tables and fields it needs, then update if necessary.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to update a datagrid joining two tables with a bindingsource. I keep getting the following error: "dynamic sql generation is not supported against multiple base tables." View 4 RepliesI have an off-line project. User uses a laptop to input data off line into local SQL server express. Once connected to domain (on line), local data will sync with remote SQL server using sync framework. (It is done, works fine)One job left:Since another user used another program to update some tables in remote SQL server, such as CUSTOMER, SHIPINFO, my off-line program need to update these new data once connect to domain. Here is what I design in Pseudo (take CUSTOMER as example)
1) In remote SQL server, create a store procedure (sp_customer) to select all CUSTOMERS
2) In application, create a dataset (dst_customer) based on sp_customer
3) Insert all customers data which is in remote SQL server but not in local SQL server based on CUSTOMER_ID
